And now the Endurance has been discovered, 100 years to the date Shackleton was buried too! (March 5, 1922 - March 5, 2022)
@@therickman1990 shackleton was the guy on the boat, not the boat itself.
@@PilkScientist The boat was never buried it sank 107 years ago. He is correct that saying Ernest Shackleton was buried in South Georgia 100 years to the day the ship was discovered.
@@harveyjohnson7977 it's seems a bit ironic that Endurance was discovered exactly on the same day Shackleton was buried.
I'm a sceptical person in general excuse me.he died in February
It's a very great find nonetheless.
march 5,1915
You mean the Endeavour was discovred. The 2nd ship
It astounds me that there's film footage of this.
Extraordinary footage.
I say it’s bad footage
@@com190 then you’re not smart.
@@com190 i get what you meant
One could only imagine what Shackleton was thinking or feeling when he watched the ice crush his ship slowly, leaving them alone in one of the most inhospitable places on the planet.
He was thinking "I'd better take a video of this so that when we get back home we can show our mates!"
"Quick, film it to put it on CZcams in a hundred years!"
@@therickman1990 Oddly enough, The Endurance was found today after 107 years missing.
@@jamesburke4505 Actually it was filmed - years before video was even thought of - by Frank Hurley - a famous Australian photographer who was on several Antarctic expeditions.
Those early expeditions had little if any financial support from govts and usually helped pay for themselves by displaying photos and movies after the expeditioners returned to Britain and Australia, etc.
As mentioned below the wreck was found in March 2022 at 3,008 m depth (almost 10,000 ft).
@@daviddgm5527 I'm writing a play about the event, I know!
I find it amazing that such an old fashioned ship was built and launched as late as 1912. The design looks like something from 1878.
The ship wasn't brand new. It had been used as a sealer prior to it being purchased by Shackleton and converted.
And your point is?
@@vctor6768 They never said they were making a point, they were making a statement about something they felt. Weird of you to get so snippy and rude over it.
@@bruceghent8776 - I'm sorry, that is incorrect,, the ship was indeed new when Shackleton bought it. though it was not built for him.
And we finally found it 107 years later. Incredibly, it's in remarkable condition. Hope to see drone footage of the inside of the ship.
Unfortunately the crew is already heading back. The survey vessel was too big to enter it and I doubt they would risk it even if they had a smaller one not knowing the actual integrity of the ship
Survey UUV* sorry
@@harveyjohnson7977 agree with you there ..reading the Wikipedia (as we know its not allways spot on) As she was crushed more and more by the ice ect her internal structure was basicaly decimated by the ice flows...5 of what were passenger cabins were compressed into the space of 1! ....decks buckled and so on she may look pretty intact on the outside with the hull ect BUT where the ice and water came in froze and compressed internaly she sounds like a minefield .. she was basicaly squeezed from the bow to stern so the port and starboard hull is pretty intact i think ...maybe now they have found her and more expeditions will come out in the future to document her and we can see more than just the few pics that have been released!
Yesterday, I had no idea what the Endurance was
After the news broke that it had been found, I went to Wikipedia and read about its history.
That made viewing this video more dramatic even.
Tremendous story.
Same
The “Endurance“ audible is great. Very exciting!
Imagine how much their hearts must have sunk seeing the first mast come down-- what you would probably think is your one hope to ever see you home again, cracked apart by the ice. The Endurance remains one of the most extraordinary tales of survival to this day.
107 years later she finally has been discovered! One of the most important discoveries of the century!
It's a miracle that no one died.
Amazing that the ship has now been found!
I'm glad the ship has been found!
Only to be found again 100 years later :)
And now they’ve found it, and it STILL looks exactly like that.
Maybe the most complete footage that I ever seen! TNX 73!
The ship wreck has been discovered. :,) amazing
Amazing video. Some of the crew thought it should've been built more like a "bowl" hull, in which the ice compression would have lifted it, instead of compacting it.
the story of these men and their ship hold s a special place in my heart. may God grant them rest 🙏
Beautiful ship, ugly happening. Amazing happy end for the crew! Thank you, BFI for this great archive footage!
Hard to believe those guys all survived, amazing...Jim sounds like your grandfather was one hell of a leader!
Read the book Endurance. Shackleton was the leader of this expedition beginning until end, Green was the cook, the captain was Wolsely
*Worsley
I don’t even belive that
@@com190 It's true. Although Shackleton would perish nearly a year to 2 years later in another Antarctic voyage.
@@com190 i believe you have less brain power than a sloth
The Endurance has endured to be found on March 9, 2022.
We are learning about Ernest Shackleton at school every love learning about it
It's a good thing they got the piano off the ship to provide the soundtrack music.
Thanks
Cool footage
boys, she’s been found
Aye, an' she's still ship shape and Bristol fashion, All she needs is some new masts an we'll sail her round the Horn, boys!
einstein... if you'd read comments...
@@billhosko7723 I was the first person to comment this because I was up at 3am when they announced they found it, hours before anyone else did. lol.
I am amazed at the Video
She was a good ship, with a good crew.
I looked this up after reading about it being caught on film.
Epic soundtrack. Oscar worthy
She has been found!!!! in beautiful condition! after 107 years!! ...March 5th 2022!! Best wooden ship ever built. Who built it?
So cool and a bit sad
I read the book
This was sent from Lee’s pad. Some nice video.
Well it’s now been found and we feel accomplished, since the water is so cold it doesn’t have heat to make it rot away
This voyage was the Apollo 13 of Antarctic exploration.
It has been found!
this is one of the most fasinating ships in history in my opinion
And now she's been found
einstein... if you'd read 50 other comments...
And now She's been found :)
am i allowed to use this footage for my video? ill give credit to ur video
The shipwreck of that ship has been found and it is still intact
Thats what happens when you use wooden ships in the Arctic
Will BFI release the full movie via bluray version?
How did the crew manage food and water and being stuck on the ship for 9 months trapped in ice?
Ice melt for water, seabirds, fish and penguin are plentiful down there, the book about Shackleton is a worthy read.
@@stevewaite6461 Which book specifically?
@@stevewaite6461 answer him right now
@@BrianK04 the book is called endurance
They also had stores they had planned to use over the winter and following summer on their Transantarctic Expedition
And as of today Endurance has been found! Resting in almost 10,000 feet of water in amazing condition. You can clearly still read the name on the ship.
There's a white medusa obscuring part of it in the photograph, it's possible it's a different ship called the Endurdnce. Shame we'll never know for sure.
It's the same ship. It's been verified.
10,000?? thats deeper than the titanic
@@GoldenWembley Way deeper, the Titanic was only around 150 feet tall.
Titanic is deeper. It lies over 13000 feet below the surface, but because the waters are warmer and there are a lot of creatures living there, it is deteriorating much faster.
The ship wrecked was recently foynd

They may discover the hundreds of photographs and negatives that were left, probably in no fit state what so ever but there maybe something...
Endurance has been reported found 03-09-2022. Parked in a different location at the mall
THEY FOUND HER!!!
How did they survive if their ship was destroyed?
You can read about that here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voyage_of_the_James_Caird
In fact sir Ernest Henry Shackleton did survive the expedition it was up to him to save everyone he wanted to be the first to cross Antarctica and elephant island but he managed to die a couple years after the expedition he was exhausted after his expedition endurance got stuck in pack ice witch is little bits of ice stuck in little parts and they had to try and get endurance but they couldn’t so they ate seals the dogs and fish and set up a camp to survive I find it so fascinating anyways ye I thought I’d give ya folks facts have a good day!sir/mam
Ehm, a comma somewhere, maybe?
@@carloberruti178 oh uh sorry I guess
THE CAPTAIN OF THAT SHIP WAS MY GREAT GREAT GRANDFATHER JAMES GREEN AND HE SURVIVED😂
Do you mean this guy? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Green_(cook). The captain was Frank Worsley. Also every person of the crew survived. It's an amazing story.
Wow that's amazing I'm reading the book right now...looking for a movie but can't find it
@@dalamskdnfkdmsns Shackleton is the name of the movie. He was the leader of the voyage
Charles green was the cook and Lionel Greenstreet was the first officer. But it had more ships that tried and failed back then
Milady. James green was the captain of the Dunbar. It perished on an expedition also. That’s very awesome to be in history. It’s amazing
Climate Change took her...
Jordan Peterson has brought me here.
Why would masts broke like that ?.What caused that ?.
It's stupid that designers of the ship tought they could make ship to resist nature,in this case ice pressure ....they made haul of the ship not bowl like thinking all those wood is stronger than thousands of tons of ice ,comedy !!!.
