- hi y'tubers, if you were wondering what happened to our bike bag line and other things, then this is for you! first half is why we had to close down, 2nd half is my first go at a van life episode. hope you enjoy! and like and subscribe. Several photos taken by Cass Gilbert when visiting the factory last summer.
Really sorry to hear about the factory closing Ron. Wish you all the best :)
We had to close down our bike shop in February after 9 years of production and manufacturing. I feel you, like losing a family member but learning so much.
A big hug from the distance and be sure that other doors will open.
Sorry to hear about your bag factory closing. On the plus side, it will give you more time for creating content. Your channel is the best thing on CZcams and you inspired me to build a bike out of second hand parts. All the best
Ron you have great taste in olive oil, Partanna is simply the best, though I can't say I'm surprised.
I think you know better than most that life is full of different chapters. We never know what's next, but that's ok. You have a spirit unlike most and I think I speak for everyone here that you bring a lot of light to this world. Wishing you all the best in this next chapter, appreciate you sharing your story. And keep the van content coming!
thanks for those very thoughtful words. including the olive oil compliment!
I'll forget I've eaten asparagus... and then I'll use the restroom and instantly I'm reminded!
Ronnie, tell us how you stay in such great shape, please. Maybe you do some training besides cycling? What do you eat etc
a topic for another vidya!
All the best my blond brethren I hope the winds of peace continue to blow upon you as you shine on through this journey!
Hello Ron & Rya, it's the folks at the devil's gear. We are sad that Nutmeg Needlework is closed. But we also know the pain of losing great employees and helping run your business. We at the shop have always been big fans of your products but also even bigger fans that you took a leap of faith in buying a manufacturing business right here in Waterbury, Connecticut. But we know one thing, taking time off to go on a couple of bike rides to help clear your mind. It help to refocus on what's important. If you need anything right down the road. Just let us know. 🙏🏿 Remember to live in the moment and prepare for the future. Much Love, Johnny & Greg🙏🏾
been popping in every now and again for almost 2 decades now. really cool to see how the place has changed and grown... glad you guys kept it going ✌️
You're a brave man trying to run a business. Good on ya for pushing on!
Any dry beans from Rancho Gordo….they are all so good. “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you have to keep moving “. Albert Einstein
We love you Ronnie! Your work brings us joy. Blessings to you and yours. Thank you for all you do.
So sad. I feel lucky to have gotten our bags for Christmas
Hope to see you guys back up and running soon !
those are some of the last ones we made --- enjoy!
My favourite bean is where I'm going, but then again I love where I've bean - best of luck to you guys, keep on rolling ...
Black bean, lima bean, coffee bean. You're always inspiring in your ventures and adventures. Joyful to follow along.
"A man without a van, ain't a man" Really enjoy the moods / feel of your videos. Real stuff ~
Ron, you are the first person I watched when I got back into cycling after nearly a decade (one of your "ted" talks) youre like a mythical creature and I enjoy following your adventures!
Favorite beans are of the coffee variety ❤
mmmm good answer as I sip on some bean water myself! haters will say its a fruit, but I find it more beneficial to claim it as BEAN
Black and Refried are tied.
Garbanzo a close second (for hummus ).
Safe travels Mr. Romance. Saving my coins for a frame.
Tough space to be in. Ive been there! I still make bags myself for family and friends. A part of my soul goes into every bag & pack i give away.
Sorry to hear. Much love to you and your family and keep on keeping on.
My favorite is black bean. I caramelize onions in olive oil and add garlic and cumin and then mash the beans in. So good with pepper jack cheese and salsa!
mmmm its breakfast time, but now I can't wait for dinner!
Dang.. sorry to hear it Ron. I wish y'all the best in whatever comes next, I'm sure it'll be awesome. ❤
Cannelini beans w/ sauteed spinach; refried beans, cheese (put the tortillas in your cast iron for a moment). Asparagus pee: yes. Thanks for sharing your journey. I've traveled those roads in pursuit of riding and other shenanigans- lonely country. I connect with your oldhead approach. Wish you the best.
I have a big backyard 3 minutes off I-5 in Redding Californy. You are welcome to camp out there in the fully fenced space and I'll show you our bicycle mecca. World class, 10 minutes from here! I am the Lentil King!
the king of lentils is quite the title to live up to! haven't been up to the Redding area in some time --- maybe a revisit is in the cards if the wind blows that way
You're more than welcome here! There is a large group of friendly cyclists here who would love to turn a pedal with ye!@@ultraromance
@@ultraromanceRon, Jimmy really IS the king of lentils.
This roadtrip stuff is exactly the content I need right now. Thanks. I’ll have to get back to you on my favorite bean, wait no. It’s the coffee bean.
Sorry to hear about the closure but I admire the risk you took in doing it all. My wife surprised me with the gift of a Fabio’s Fanny last year. I can proudly say I have a Waterbury made Fanny!
Nutmeg Needleworks forever! 🤘
I shut down a business that i had been running for 5 years in 2018 so totally know how it feels. Watching this brings me back. Especially the scene where yall are throwing stuff out the window. Thanks for sharing and all the best!
Sad to hear Nutmeg needle work is closing. I’ve always found you really inspiring, and I’ve built my bike through your precious advices. I’ll keep supporting you as I can here in France! Always good to see you going forward, a nice spiritual gentleman you are! Xoxo from France!
Life! Keep riding bikes and sharings vids. Im sure it will work out for the two of you. Good poeple tend to succeed. Cheers from Canada
My favorite bean is a good chickpea AKA garbanzo
cool video! real life man, sounds like some you've gone through some challenges . I am looking forward to following your journey. Thanks for making the video sharing your experiences.
It takes courage to try anything new in entrepreneurship. You inspired a lot of people during the process and are slowing it all down with grace. Look forward to the continued chapters.
Sorry about the tough run, bruv. Despite that, you are biking more often than me and in better locations. So you are doing something right.
Even though you’re just a guy on the Internet to me, I still feel sad to hear of the pain, anxiety, and sleepless nights you went through and hope it all resolves with you finding some peace.
"Like and subscribe" and comment. And send some love. Or more love! 💜
Take good care out there. Vidya’s always inspire and remind me - never get off the bike
I hope the factory moved to Mexico, that would be so cool!
we will soon be made in Vermont --- a bit far from Mexico!
Rough time out there right now in the world we live in. You’re doing great. On to the next adventure!
My favorite bean is…black bean probably. I love all beans.
Hang in there man, thanks for being vulnerable and honest about the situation
Thanks for sharing the road trip Ronnie! Delightful to watch with my cup of green tea this morning. Sorry to hear it's been a rough go the last couple months. Rest up, take care.
Hopefully I'll be able to snag a bag later in the year when the new operation is up and running, but no pressure! Haha! The Wald basket hasn't let me down yet!
For now I'll keep tuning in to the vidyas with the snow gently falling out the window and a bike in the stand. Wishing you wild and safe travels!
I know how difficult a transition such as this can be. But both of you are examples of the “man in the arena” so eloquently described by Teddy Roosevelt. Well done! And on to an even brighter future!
I’ve had to close a different type of bike related shop and I became stressed and depressed. It wasn’t even my business but it was still painful as I had put so much into it. Stay strong and best of luck to the future.
Ronnie, may you find inner peace on your journey and plenty of bicycle rides. 🌹🌹🌹☕️
I’m so sorry. I recently went through an experience where I said yes to job. I moved my family and dove in but it just never clicked. I ended up mentally and physically in a bad place. Thankfully I had some people in my life and myself that recognized the warning signs. I’m in a better place now.
You and Arya are mentors for me and many of us that need to inject playfulness and connectedness to people and nature. Thank you so much. Best wishes and hopes for this next season🥰🥰🥰.
thanks for the kind words Joey --- recognizing the warning signs is certainly a gift --- easy to become blind with ambition sometimes. cheers to a better place!
Wow. Sorry to hear about the bag shop. Hopefully, the product line will reappear soon. And Tucson was my home for a bunch of years. Good riding and even better people's there!
So sorry to hear about N.N. Can get most any bag at my shop, but chose multiples of yours because they're the best.
Missed you at Philly this year; was so sad that eating your annual chocolate gift was required to staunch the glum.
Good to see Arya there :)
Hope you have great riding out West and clear the headspace for more great ideas. Happy trails!
Good luck out there!
Good luck in next ventures!
I'm sorry to hear this. Since my car died I've been taking the train to Waterbury to see my parents, who live further up at the end of Route 8, and every time I went through there I thought about your factory. Glad you get to travel again though.
A masters degree in bagufacturing.
Heartbreaking. But you got the vibe and I know good things will happen 🚴♀️✨✨
Stay good Ron, so inspired by you
love you !
Favourite beans: garbanzo
Asparagus piss? Yes, happens to me ;)
(Respect for what you accomplished with Nutmeg Needle. All the love to you and Arya!)
Lol...Ronaldo, I just started watching you 3 months ago...in fact, I finally fixed the bottom bracket on my 1966 Raleigh Grand Prix and installed a FC-7701 Crankset. It wasn't easy like your 6 hour hammered fender install. Its like a new bike now with DuraAce instead of Nervar cranks. It's got Wald H-bars and front basket sporting yellow fenders. I am building another old 1982ish Trek with 8spd Nexus now just for fun. Renaldo, I did not buy any bags from you. I like them...but, I love my head badges too much to put them up against that velcro strap. I mean my bikes are all old and ugly, but I cherish nice headbadges. How about a headtube clamp of some sort that clamps to the frame like a 28.6mm front derailleur but instead of 28.6, make it 1.25" or whatever a headtube OD is...design an integral hoop for the front brake cable to swing inside but so that the bag is somehow supported and secure, and QUICK RELEASE. So you can secure the bag and not mess with the paint or head badge? Make the clamps look like an extension of Campy clamps...that would be so bad assed!!! Wherever you move, I dig your style, or lackthererof...lol...no really...a hippy roadracer is cool. Hope you succeed in the way out west. I'm near Mt Rainier...my bicycle business venture in Orting Washington also flopped, but it was fun, and after I sold the building recently, I finally made some money...all is well...keep on keeping on Ronnie!
Une page se tourne 😢
Mais une nouvelle s'écrit 😊
Merci pour la vidéo
Sorry to hear of your factory closure. I love my big Fab’s chest.
I found the story reminiscent of some of Grant’s old Riv blog posts. Painful but helpful. I hope in some way cathartic and helpful for you two. Best wishes for both of you on the next phase.
Easily my favorite Ronnie Romance video. Sorry to hear about the factory. I'll be watching the site so I can buy a Fab's Chest this summer. Kidney bean. Pee doesn't smell.
we all love you and the path you've chosen
Hang in there kid! We all love ya.
Oh yeah, those Pennsylvania backroad rides make for great memories.
Favorite bean: Jelly Bean - buttered popcorn flavor.
Great content! Always puts me in a better mood.
favorite bean is white bean (cannellini)
Such a bummer i have been on the hunt for these bags for the last 9 months this explains why
Recently I've "bean" favoring Black-Eyed Peas. I find them very satisfying, like comfort food. My favorite way to eat them is with wilted spinach and onions, and a little heat added, served over cheesy (vegan cheese) polenta. Yum.
mmmmm I know what im having for dinner! ❤️
I’m out here on the eastern Sierra and just finished a remodel project. No direction and tons of time. Give a honk to me if you see me🤣 Tectonic Traveller I’m happy to see you out living again
Beans, yes. I eat home made hummus every day, and a black bean/tamale/seasoned roasted potatoes thing that I make, a couple of times a week. Beans are good, and good for you.
im coming over for dinner! 🤤
Good stuff man, thanks for sharing. Dreaming of being out west in VA...although it is pretty nice here as spring grows, can't complain!
Sad to hear about the factory. But all this turned out to be the most interesting video made yet. Waiting for the next one! Keep your head up and rubber down.
glad you liked! I was unsure how this one would land, but glad I have it all together for a personal retrospective if anything.
What a bummer re: the closure.... Well, onwards and upwards my friend! Enjoy the Van Lyfe™.
Bummer. Change is scary but necessary. Long distance bike check😄 Navy bean with garbanzo a close second. Welcome to Missourah. I have that same stove.
Bummer man. Wishing you both all the best.
If you see a white transit camper van from MA say hello, headed to South AZ in a few days. Will eventually be wandering north to S Utah weather permitting. Happy trails!
Well Ronnie, sad I didn't get to purchase one of your bags, but life goes on. Sorry to hear about Nutmeg. I've been following your trip out there. Looks like a lot of fun. Nice to see your Roadini build in use. Hope you get to ride with Lael too. What a great vidya that would make!
shoulda gotten some footage of my Lael ride --- maybe I did ..... always one of my fav rides of the year
Onya Ronnie , you crack me up . Van life and the pushys that's the way my friend
All the best on your next chapter
A for effort trying to keep manufacturing in CT.
Garbanzo bean for the win
Safe travels
Surprising given how much you were asking for those bags.
garbanzo beans are love, garbanzo beans are life (cannellini in second place). Sucks about the bag/textile division of the business. hopefully the name and product lineup will live on in the future.
Hello Ron and Aria its me Mini. Its sad to see the factory closed, its hard 😢
Ron, my urine smells epic after eating asparagus.... Very candid video, sorry about the closure but thanks for sharing all this. It's hard being vulnerable online. Best wishes + beaucoup romance to you + the crew.
So sad to hear. I have been a happy customer over the years.
Sad shutdown of a business but I think also the performance orientation kills the good idea to bring back versatility to bikes. It is sad and I see here in Germany that the great idea of great bags and bikes with many mounts for comfortable but as easy rides as can be, is dying (again). I like to look at Rose bikes, my favorite compass for the things that are going to come or what is happening. I like your stuff and style but I always bought Carridice bags because of my european patriotism and because of the poor shipping options of your stuff. You are opening a new chapter in life and the ages walk in. Vanlife is not what I like and I do not like it because I love nature and the quiet roads, quiet without Vans with people in them...thats why I am happy your chanel is not becoming a Vanlife adventure chanel or something like that...and places are simply better without cars and vans, but I hope you enjoy the time to calibrate the direction of life. Liebe Grüße und alles gute! Kidneybeans By the way. 😋
damn, using maldon salt, brewing v60, papi knows what's good, have a nice one ✌️
My new favorite vanlife influencer! Good luck on future endeavors
My friend, did you really make bar end shifter out of beautiful Simplex down-tuber? SO SWEET!
ronnie thank you for the PA shoutout
Great video Ron. The desert scenery was amazing.
sorry to hear mate that you had to close nutmeg.. enjoy the trip! urin always smells different
I subscribed to you seeing you riding bikes and going through your sheds with bikes staked.....your bike reminds me of that salsa pistola that i can´t find but want for odd reason. wish you good things to come for the future cowboy with the trojan horse
funny you should mention --- I had my old Reynolds S3 Salsa Primero in mind with this look.
Real missed opportunity for a Fievel Goes West joke.
All the best Ron. Pintos for the win!
It’s so hard to close a business , it does take its toll on a person. Sorry you had to experience it . BTW asparagus really affects me! 🤣 looks like a fun trip across the country . Here’s to better days ahead .
What a LIFE .....Hopefully the bag situation pans out i'll be in need of a new bar bag soon 😂
very sad! but i am excited to see what's next.
Sorry to hear about the shop 😢, but excited for your next adventure! My urine smells strikingly healthier after asparagus
Asparagus on the menu for the next time I pass through WR junction!
I call it "asparapiss" and not a big fan. The initial eating part of asparagus is great, though.
Favourite bean- coffee bean😃
Black beans and salsa! You're young; you've got lots of time to start something new.
Man, sorry to hear. Looks like you are moving forward though. Ride on!
