Good video. One way that movies that are mass produced in a soulless fashion aren’t analogous with Will Hirsch flips videos is in that there is no financial barrier to entry which makes them intrinsically different. The incentive for those institutions is making something by design that is known to perform in order to maximize financial gain. With your videos there is not as much financial incentive. You’ve said yourself in the past that the biggest reason you make videos is to produce art and in that you’re not technically losing anything. You’re incentivized by your own drive to create whereas in your analogy that is the exact opposite of the truth. Just some food for thought but it might make you feel better.

Thanks for talking about this topic, I have been thinking about it lately as well, this is something people need to know about because it is affecting everyones lifes and will a lot more in the near future, they can fake anybody saying anything now which is dangerous, some serious changes to the society and how things are run definitely need to be made, we can only hope that more people will speak and educate about this, because the majority of the people at the top don't want change, and they have the most influence on what is put out there. Great ending though, and I enjoyed flipping along with you!

I write the curriculum for a large university, and they just announced to internal staff that we're experimenting with ChatGPT. I'm extremely worried about the future of not only myself, but my colleagues who work with students as their advisor. This directly impacts their employability. I think it's about 5 years, given how quickly the adoption has been for ChatGPT and similar products, before we have to implement a UBI because of the mass firings we're going to experience.

I'm a 15-year-old Ukrainian refugee currently living in a hotel in Ireland. I've been coding on and off since I was 11 and after the start of the war I invested a lot more time into computer science to make sure I can help support my family once I hit 18, I am now extremely worried, time to spend a ton of time convincing myself it'll be fine. Thanks for creating such great videos, especially these longer format ones

While I disagree with many points made in this video, I still respect your opinion Will, as there is no denying that AI will make some jobs go away, like your sound design job for example, but again, will also make some appear, like data gatherers. AI is an industry, and industries have both pros and cons. But I think that the biggest importance of AI is not the technology itself, but to represent our ability as a humanity to adapt to great changes, and therefore is a threshold and a great step for humanity to fulfill. People can argue if AI should be suppressed with laws and argue other issues. But the main issue is whether WE can adapt to our own drama without blowing everything up, because not only does it tell us a lot about technology, but it also tells us a lot about us. That is the biggest importance of AI (in my opinion). Good video, Will. I liked the calming part at the end too.

@@iluvgeese8114 yep, it usually falls under the department of computer science and contains a lot of math and cognitive science on top of all the usual algorithms and stuff. At the end of the degree, you get courses like deep learning and fuzzy logic, which teaches the more theoretical side of ai. Funny enough, commerce students actually get a lot more AI courses early on, but those veer more towards how to apply ai to solve different problems than the theory and the nitty gritty behind how ai works.

I think there will be a split, so just like there is a split in the balisong market for machine vs handmade pieces, people will go out of their way to find handmade or I guess "humanmade" real/digital art using no AI tools(which is what I see AI as at the moment, tools, very powerful tools) and to me there will always be a market for handmade quality stuff whether AI turns into a fad over time or not.
I should also point out(like kind of mentioned or a point that travels into another) that to me there is no true AI, every AI model and such has to programmed to be trained in something, AI cannot technically train itself to do something it has to be programmed to train in something. so is it really "artificial intelligence" or is it programmed to be supposedly "intelligent"? there is a huge difference between what we call AI and what AI actually is, what we call AI cannot become truly intelligent unless it trains itself to do something its not suppose to do or programs itself to train in something its not suppose to do and even then I would question whether it is intelligent or whether its just doing what its suppose to do if it was designed to learn something its not trained to learn, ya know what I mean? also "artificial intelligence" but does it have wisdom or I guess "artificial wisdom" to apply that intelligence? it is also limited by its creators as well and what it is asked to do so who is really the intelligent one? it's the same thing with googling something you don't know, are you dumb because you didn't know it or are you smart because your asking the questions to find out and is google smart for knowing the answer or is it dumb because you asked it to find the answer for you and is basically a slave to your every whim? its the same with AI, I have to ask it to do things but it cant ask itself to do things or to ask and answer its own questions unless you prompt it to do so. its intelligence is limited by our knowledge, our theories, what we see as fact and fiction, etc.
though I do see everyone's opposing or supporting points to have it or not to have it. this tech is kind of scary but over time as we gain more understanding, people will get less scared of it or maybe more scared of it as we gain understanding of it, how to use it to our advantage, such like that. i just saw how you can "train ai" to replicate your writing style, which is scary and cool and AI fills people with wonder, excitement, fear, anger, bewilderment, curiosity, etc and maybe all those are rolled up in this complicated amalgamation of emotions because we don't truly understand it. could we continue? should we continue? what is the morality of those decisions, are their good counterarguments?
I don't know, either way I got popcorn in hands to see our decisions in the next coming years on what we decide to do with AI and as said tools it provides. memes if skynet happens or memes if AI is good XD. on a more serious note, I'm glad were asking these questions.

There’s a book that’s set in 2042 called Scythe. The entire world’s ran by an AI as it got so smart training itself that it became conscious, and from then on, solved the worlds problems on its own. It made government like politicians, and capitalism irrelevant due to the excessive corruption and greed shown nowadays. The world still ran as it does now economically, yet it solved every single worldly problem, then ran the world united under its undoubtedly accurate power and intelligence. The only thing it doesn’t run is overpopulation and death, to solve it, a certain number of people must die a year to keep it under control, as the AI believed the taking of a life should be done by humans as it is a conscious act, that’s the only thing humans have a body of people in control of, which starts the story line if the book
