  • A common fungal infection that causes small, discolored patches of skin.
Pityriasis Versicolor is caused by an overgrowth of yeast on the skin. It most often affects teens and young adults. The condition isn't contagious.
Symptoms include patches of skin that are lighter or darker than the surrounding skin, often on the torso and shoulders.
Treatments such as anti-fungal creams, lotions, or shampoos are usually effective. However, skin discoloration may last for weeks to months.

Saying this yeast infection is caused by not maintaining hygiene and will go away 100% if you maintain hygiene is dumb coming from a dermatologist. You out of all the people should know that the yeast malassezia is found on almost all of the adults but it's harmless. For some people certain things can trigger it to go haywire, such as weather, compromised immune system, some other underlying conditions, long term antibiotic medication etc, it's not just about hygiene. 🤦 Some doctors these days. SMH.

I’ve had this for 15 years and it only got worse. I’ve been using selsun blue 1% selenium sulfide and it has never gotten better. I’ve used it all kinds of ways like, leaving it on over night. That was a big mistake it burned and stained my skin. I’ve also put it on for 15 mins and rinse it off but it doesn’t work. The only way it leaves me feeling clean, I guess, put it on for 15 mins get in the shower lather it then rinse it and buff my skin with a soft cotton rag doused in sensitive dove soap. And then I rinse. If I don’t do it that way I will remain itchy and completely uncomfortable. I use it everyday. I’ve even taken breaks from it as advised and my skin flares up like no other. My skin remains red, itchy, and scaly at all times. My whole face is covered in a layer of TV and so is my neck and the creases of my inner elbows. It wasn’t always my face but it seems like it’s here to stay. My face is extremely shiny and oily, I can probably fill a couple of table spoons by the end of the day. I’ve went to dermatologist all my life non seem to care here in the US! Trust me they don’t care because according to them it’s easily treatable and non life threatening. I’ve been prescribed selenium sulfide 2.5 and it doesn’t make a difference it’s just time consuming and inconvenient because they come in small bottles and I have it really large areas, the bottle doesn’t last long. Plus, you can only get it prescribed here in the US! And at one point drs don’t wanna prescribe it anymore. 15 years ago I used the famous ketoconozole pills and ingested them and worked out As advised by my dr. I use the cream form to and it didn’t work. After that cream I religiously use clotrimizole cream and it doesn’t do anything but I feel comfortable and that’s it. It doesn’t do anything. There was a period of time where I felt my routine was working because the affected areas would dry up and virtually fall off and my skin would clear after 3 days. Those days were over quick and only lasted a couple of years. I wish I had it that way now. I’ve tried the famous diets and all but they didn’t work. I made one amazing observation where it went away for a whole month and I was finally happy for a long period of time. I had an infection and was givin azithromicin which cleared my skin for one whole month, coincidentally. My dermatologist said it was just a coincidence and nothing more. I did my research and what he said made sense but that’s exactly what happen to my TV. I had two other separate occasions where I took antibiotics like azithromicin and again it cleared my skin for 1 month. I was happy. Exactly after a month my TV came back like normal and never went away. It’s the worst it’s ever been. And I live in a very low humidity area. I shower twice a day. The Drs gave me the impression that I was overreacting but they have never and will never live with it like I do. No one seems to care because I’m not dying. I lost all hope. I’ve spent thousands on selsun blue shampoos and I will continue to with no positive results. It just keeps me sane thinking I’m doing something about it. My neck and face pigmentation does no match the rest of the skin on my body. All I have to say is, help! 😔
