Before the advent of modern medicine, Europeans and Arabs died in droves due to the diseases in Africa. The inverse was true for sub-Saharan africans in northern climates. I repeat, Europeans rarely, if ever, were involved in the actual capture of slaves, the Portuguese tried and failed miserably. On your last point, bantus or sub-Saharan africans are one of the newest ethnicities around.
