- Mike Judge Presents: Tales From the Tour Bus
Season 1, Episode 1
Johnny Paycheck, 3 of 6
Aired on Cinemax: 2017.09.22
In addition to selling 40 million records and producing chart-topping hits like “She’s All I Got” and “Take This Job and Shove It,” country music outlaw Johnny Paycheck became notorious for living the part. He was known for his music, grand theft auto, drug binges and stints in jail. At the height of Paycheck’s fame, he shot a man over a turtle soup recipe, which led to a high-profile trial, a prison sentence and one of his greatest hits, “Old Violin.”

Funny story.....A couple Hells Angels (Fu and Deakon) started Charlie Magoo productions back in the days and wanted Johnny to play but he was always a drunken mess, and they were concerned about him making them look bad. So they lined up a date for him to play, but....told him the gig was a week earlier than it actually was. When he showed up, they had a hotel room waiting with a club member to watch him 24/7 to make sure he didn't leave. No alcohol. No drugs. He was pissed......but he made it through the week and admittedly played one of the best shows of his career.
"...anyways I shot him in the ear..." That is one of the greatest segues of all time 🤣
The bus driver with that bandage 🤣
Teeny... weeeny... peeenie... the timing of that phrase is perfection.
Johnny Paycheck...starting the "Great Resignation" before it was a thing!
Imagine david allen coe givin this to paycheck & not even get any recognition...
He got those royalty check
He doesn't actually.
He sold it too him but still
DAC has done enough terrible stuff to deserve it over the years.
I prefer dacs version
Love the line, nothing worse than a hillbilly with a hit record
He looks like Charlie Manson in a cowboy hat
WV native here. He did a show at Short Wilsons before he died like three miles from my house. We all went to see him come in. Hammered lol
1:07 "The fabulous Johnny Paycheck". Now that's comedy folks.
As soon as the narrator spoke I heard Beavis and Butt-Head, no wonder, it is them!! Mike judge is a genius

"So small he should've been ashamed of himself."
These old boys have lived a life man o man
We ain’t dead yet son. You’re only as old as the woman you feel. I’m feeling reasonably young.
My life finna get crazy again lmao bringing that outlaw shit back.
I love learning country stars invented the punk lifestyle 😅
hank williams was the first rock star, he was elvis before elvis
I met Johnny Paycheck after one of his shows at The Longhorn ballroom in Dallas Texas,he was so humble and a super nice guy,I guess because he was on that powder..
take this job and shove it starts playing over and over again in my mind when things go wrong at work. ive followed through with it a few times. the song helped me make up my mind i mean. hahaha!
I don't like the drugs but the drugs like me. Legit paycheck was outa control

I don't understand your last sentence, but somehow I agree with it.

Legend of the first big mac attack
Was talking to a nice waitress who've I known for some time and she was telling me about one of her sons, a very good decent lad, who liked to live an exciting life. She shook her head and smiled.
I said her story reminded me of a Johnny Paycheck song, "I'm the only hell my momma ever raised."
Well she laughed, smiled and said she enjoyed Johnny's songs and this was definitely going to be her full of life son's signature song.
Many of us working class can definitely relate to Johnny. RIP.
DAC wrote it
Who was that beautiful tv lady introducing Johnny there
That's Toni Tennille from the Captain and Tennille, guess she had a talk show at one time.
Billy joe shaver needs an episode
He has a whole story line, lots hqve been deleted
Coolest
My band opened up for Johnny paycheck in 1995 and boy howdy was he a mess. The bus looked a lot worse than your drawing, and the band were barely able to setup their gear much less play. Johnny walked with a cane, played three songs and had his brother play the rest. Worst show I ever seen, was glad to leave.
Tom Brokaw!😯
Ol paycheck had a lot to prove bein a yank, him and DAC made themselves honorary southerners.
The late great "New Yorker" Jerry Jeff Walker turned into a very fine Texan!
Why anyone would want to be an honorary, let alone a southerner is beyond me. 🙄
He's a red-blooded midwesterner and ohioan just like Grant
@@FYMASMD I suppose in the same way anyone would want to call themselves Unkle.
@@FYMASMDOh Jamal…
My ancestors are coal minors that’s real work
...and stocking grocery shelves so folks' families can eat isn't?
I com from a long line of goal miners on both sides of the Atlantic & grew up in the rust belt being taught this stuff too.
get over it bro. drowning sorrows in booze and beating the wife & kids goes hand in hand with "real work" and "real men"... it's bullsh*t ppl spout to justify being a c*nt.
I love JPC but you need to pay respect do DAC!
Johnny Paycheck was his stage name, he started out as a bass player for George Jones. He was known as "Donny Young" then.
Yes David wrote this song and soo many more that most people don't even know
3:46 16 million dollars? That's hard to believe.
aint no way . the dude has no idea what that would look like
😂😂😂
country music and paycheck are real. not some joke to be condescended to by a wealthy hipster.
I’m 100% with you here. Real country is now becoming a fashion statement for hipsters who couldn’t tell you a single Buck Owens song. But where do you see anyone being condescending? Or are you just speaking generally?
When Paycheck was in his doldrums of his career and before his number one hit- him and some of his band made a stop in Dayton Ohio at the home of Bill Step. Bill was a sort of Appalachian gangster in the town known for his Grand Nationals race car Billy the Kid Dodge Duster and his Pittbulls he fought and gambled on. My sister was in Highschool and dating Billy Junior. The whole crew apparently got to doing speed and stayed up for three days playing and Johnny wouldn’t shower and smelled bad. But they played and played and then the rest became history.
Charley Manson’s twin brother 😮
Snorted $16M up his nose. Wow😮
David Allan Coe is the GOAT.
The bus driver should’ve had the manager thrown in prison.
You know they can say whatever they like about the guy being a total cokehead but his agent love them everybody seemed to love the guy
Why is butthead narrating?😂
I’m a dumbass😂 I didn’t realize It was Mike Judge! Love him and B&B & of Course King🤘🏼
Mike Judge is a tad bit of a coward to gloss over David Allen Coe especially with the theme of the series, he was the craziest one!
Where's the full video
