    Nice to know mine isn't the only one to start with a slow idle then speed up. Love my '83 V4 90!

    Shew, be carefull you can cuase a cold seize when reved high.causing the pistons to swell rapidly due to heat..

    what year is this motor? I have a 1994 Evinrude V4 90 hp. This is 3rd Summer I've owned it. At end of last season, had a problem with motor. So stored it away. Been working on motor. Finally got it out and hooked up to hose. It started after 5-6 tries, ran rough for about 15 secs, then stalled. Couldn't get it to start again. Electric solenoid and starter motor ok. I had put in 2 gals of fresh gas in tank, with what was there (I'm guessing around 14 gals of a 22 gal tank). Had to go to work. Now it to rain and thunderstorm tomorrow, Sat, so have to wait until Sunday to work on it. Not sure if spark plugs not firing/timing off or it not getting fuel to sparks. Fuel into filter ok. After that, I don't know yet. Hope it is not the fuel pump, that thing costs almost $600!!!

    Hey man I have an issue with my Johnson 90vro it’s 1990 but to start it some times first I go out battery to the motor start what can I do a few months I put 800 bucks on it but still the same

    primer does nothing unless key is on first. Push primer while cranking for best results....after it fires push primer for a second ever once in a while till engine gets going well.....

    • @fastfordman1965
      @fastfordman1965 Před 7 lety +3

      red71gs I'm pretty sure when you push the key in, it's activating the choke on the carbs. The priming is done with the inline primer bulb.

    • @red71gs
      @red71gs Před 7 lety +7

      Squeezing the ball fills the carbs with fresh fuel. when you turn the key to the run position it sends 12 volts to your instruments. It is only when the key is in the run position or crank position that 12 volts can be sent to the primer solenoid. The primer solenoid is nothing but an electric valve that allows fuel to enter the manifold directly thru 2 hoses. one under each carb. Put you ear next to the solenoid and have someone verify this by pushing the keyswitch in both positions. OFF and RUN Those old OMC Crosflow engines are some of the best old 2 strokes around. And parts are a dime a dozen only way to kill them is run them with out oil....

    • @fastfordman1965
      @fastfordman1965 Před 7 lety

      red71gs is there a choke blade on these carbs then?

    • @Af_4600
      @Af_4600 Před 7 lety

      fastfordman1965 Pushing in the key is actually choking the engine. It’s not a primer

    • @DDay9000
      @DDay9000 Před 6 lety

      depends on the year and when the choke was stopped being used on these engines. It looks like it is similar to mine (I have a 97), therefore, could be a primer solenoid, which allows fuel to flow into the carb throats when cranking with key pushed in. The primer opens the fuel flow when the motor is turning over, the pump does the work.

    hmmm... If you activate the choke, why open the throttle valve? the reason of the cold start is the less air, more gas mix...

    • @keepitstreet8662
      @keepitstreet8662 Před 4 lety +1

      choke plate covers the throttle anyway won't really do much

    • @perkypat2214
      @perkypat2214 Před 4 měsíci

      It isn't a choke it's a fuel primer solenoid that squirts fuel straight into the carb, that's why they start so easily. The fast idle lever when raised also advances the timing, which makes cold starting easier. There's a sweet spot to raise it to, to get the engine to start, then gradually lower it, all the way if possible without stalling the engine.
