    I was a general contractor for over 30 years. I have purchased hundreds of appliances. I am a big fan of scratch and dent outlets. The old Sears outlet is now American Freight. Lowes Outlet is in Southern California and a few other locations. I also negotiated a discount with Best Buy for customers who wanted high end items, ie Viking, Thermador etc.

    Sears used to have an appliance outlet store in Corona, CA, which was a life saver for us. We were able to buy a front loading washer and matching dryer for about $700 back in the late 1990s. They lasted until 2015. The dryer was actually still working and the person we gave it to is still using it today. Then in 2004, we needed a new refrigerator so off we went to the Sears Outlet. When we pulled up there was a big sign that said it was refrigerator sale day. 1/2 off the price. We were able to get a large Kenmore armoire refrigerator. It was $2200 in the store but $1200 in the outlet as there was a small dent in it. Since it was half off day, we got it for $600. It is still in our kitchen today. Unfortunately the outlet has since closed so not sure what we will do when the time comes for a new fridge.

      @@GuyWithTheDogs why is it that no other country in the world has all these supposed problems with front loaders? And why is it that when Americans get one and it saves them almost $4,000 in electricity compared to the abysmal spin speed of a top loader but it needs a repair after 14 years, they swear "never again" and then buy a whirlpool VMW trash-loader that only lasts 2.5 years so they buy another VMW trash-loader... And another, and another, never applying the same rigorous expectations they had for the front loader... It's like Americans will *sorta* try something new and trendy but deep down they truly want to justify buying things that are designed worse, perform worse, with worse reliability and worse efficiency, because it's "the way we've always done it"...

We didn't want to spend a lot of money on it so we went to the local Habitat for Humanity to see if they had a refurbished dryer. Instead what we found was a room full of brand new Whirlpool commercial dryers still in the box. I have no idea why they were there but they originally sold for about $1,000 and we purchased one for $100 which included the senior discount. I expected to see scratches and dents or something but it was in perfect condition so I'm happy.

      Of course you didn't want to spend a lot of money on it - when the person who buys the appliance isn't the one using it, there's absolutely no incentive to care about efficiency or quality or features. Already sold like 4 or 5 from the shipment we showed on camera. It depends on how well you market them.

    Hi Ben!!! My husband and I have really enjoyed all of your videos, so thorough!! I have almost watched them all! We are building a house and need ALL of our appliances on a smaller budget. We found a scratch and dent DACOR French door counter depth fridge model# DRF36C500SR/DA for $1,200 -slight scratch and that’s it. Would you purchase this?? I watched your refrigerators video about ten times- HA! The ice is in the freezer, and the water is above, and yes, it is made in china, but it seems to get high ratings. Have you worked on this brand before? Thanks for reading!

      Dacor got bought out by Samsung. So main question is if it can be serviced near you. If so, you're fine.

    I get it's not to be taken seriously, but being in a closed freezer is not an appropriate image to present. Although modern design and public education have greatly reduced incidences, a child suffocating after hiding in thrown out refrigerators is a tragedy no-one wants.

      Refrigerators that led to deaths were banned in the 1958 in the US. If you can show me an instance of someone dying in the US from it for one manufactured afterwards, I'll gladly delete the scene.

      @yohoyoho13 Před 23 dny

      @@bensappliancesandjunk It is true that the US passed a law requiring refrigerators/freezers to be openable from the inside. But a child can still suffocate in one. For example, it could tip over onto the door, or it may be modified (to accommodate a padlock) by an owner.
      I did not ask you to delete the scene. f you are fine with it, it's your channel, your video. All I said that it's a bad look. It's just a thought.
