Great short cartoon written & narrated by Timothy Forder. This episode is from its original 1985 Channel 4 broadcast with continuty. There's a little of Murun in us all.
I’m the same as a lot of commenters here. My brother and I remember this, but no one else has ever heard of it. We began to think it was something we’d collectively made up. Thank god for the Internet!
I've been looking for this for years. I typed in "Weird cartoon character with Scandinavian name who was always negative" but got nowhere. I searched on every cartoon list. Today he popped up on a list and AT LAST I've found him Lol
this is what youtube is all about, these little hidden gems and classics... (for some reason I got it in my head this was an archaic German cartoon, the name I spose...) like a piece of old poetry
No one I know remembers this. I used to watch it as a kid in the late 80's. I never really understood it, yet was strangely intrigued by it. My sister and I could never pronounce his surname, so we used to call him Murun Butch-Stansfield lmao. I really miss those days.
Oh, thank you! No one I have met has ever heard of this. I was entranced, and yet completely baffled, by it at the age of 13. How much more resonant it is now!
Having just watched it again as an adult, I understand why I found it so confusing as a child. It really is a weird cartoon! I enjoyed watching it now though, just because it brought back so many memories ☺
Used to watch this on a YTV show called "Why TV". It featured cartoons from around the world. I loved "Kenny McTickle and His Magic Kilt" and "BeulBeule L'Hermite", too! :D
I had a vague memory of watching this when I was 11 years old,and ever since have been convinced that I imagined the whole thing, because I couldn't find a trace of it anywhere. Thanks for putting an end to TWENTY SEVEN YEARS of confusion, so good to find it again!
Apart from my friend Kevin, I'm the only person I know who remembers this. Everybody else thinks we're making it up, especially the bizarre name of the show.
foxyshabazz I know same here. My dad used to call me murun buchstansangur after watching this because I sat in a messy corner as a kid. It's so bizarre.
I used to love this show. Loved channel 4 back in the day. It always showed weird and wonderful stuff. The narrator really sounds like Richard E Grant.
Good to see the original Channel 4 logo and theme as well. Murun Buchstansagar was very wierd to an 8 year old but he had early Channel 4 stamped all the way through it.
Likewise!! If it weren't for my brother backing me up because he'd seen it too, all my friends and family would think I'd gone mad! "Murun Buchstansanwho?!?!?!"
I thought I'd imagined the whole thing. Wow is my shrink going to be stunned when I show her this. She's all "They can't have shown a 4-minute chunk of Kafka-esque gloom every week just before the news. I'm sure this is just your way of telling yourself you didn't get out much as a youngster", and I'm all "Did so. His name was Moron." "Mmm-hmm. Tell me about Moron." "Well, he was this sort of head who lives under the sink... wait... I'm having a breakthrough..." etc.
I remember an episode where cousin Rossiter gets as the narrator says, "Rossiter was very very drunk". I only remember this as that's my name & my best pal had gotten me into this cartoon.
@@jtpinnyc I think at times it was also the first program of the day on Channel 4 at the time-like at about 1.05pm or so-but not too sure there though.
I find it remarkable Murun is not essential reading for philosophy studies. I remember because it was riveting at the time and I recall few people even noticed it was on at the time........ I also remember one friend Roz who also knew of this at the time.
I LOVED THIS in my late teens! x BUT ... we must NOT get his name wrong! It is not MORON he is by no means a.. 'moron'... his name is 'Murun'. Murun Buchstansangur. He is the BEST!!!! I have loved him dearly for nearly 30 years. x
well I realise its an ambiguous subject for you to agree on - Oedipus Complex and all, - but in what board meeting did they decide that a complement amounted to an insult?? I must've missed that one :)
I was wondering if I would ever find this again. I was certain I had seen this before. Just came across the name a few minutes ago. Just remember the character and him rolling an orange peeling and his girlfriend. Just imagine this guy existed for real. And lived in your house.
@frenziedcurtain Just seen your post on Muran BU... I have been asking people for the past 25 years whether they remembered this. No one did and I too began to think it was a figment of my otherwise dull imagination. Wait till I tell them all-they have believe me now!!
"Körmöcbánya koboldja és meseboltja" c. ijesztő csehszlovák bábfilmsorozatot nagyon régóta keresem. Az nincs meg véletlenül? Neten sehol nem találom, google csak két oldalt dob ki, ahol '96-os tévéújságban szerepel a cím. Gyerekkorom "meghatározó" élménye volt.
This was the weirdest cartoon ever aired, who on earth was it aimed at? It went out at a time when kids weren't watching on a channel that had no children's TV department.
@frenziedcurtain Fuck me, i couldnt remember his name either, so many little details, which nobody else knew!! i know how u feel!! Been asking myself for so many years!!
He’s pretty built in the arms. Respect.
I’m the same as a lot of commenters here. My brother and I remember this, but no one else has ever heard of it. We began to think it was something we’d collectively made up.

I used to hate this cartoon. But now I'm 52 suffering clinical depression & borderline personality disorder issues this is my reality.
Murun is here for us dude haha x
To anyone who is not native to Britain, this is a normal day for a British person.
Speak for yourself..
Oh, whatever! 🙄
this is what youtube is all about, these little hidden gems and classics...
(for some reason I got it in my head this was an archaic German cartoon, the name I spose...)
like a piece of old poetry

Murun Buichstansangur lived in a hole in the ground ... or was it in a crack. Something like that anyway.
Used to watch this on Channel 4 😁😁
Having just watched it again as an adult, I understand why I found it so confusing as a child. It really is a weird cartoon! I enjoyed watching it now though, just because it brought back so many memories ☺
Finally found him! I remembered the depressive feel to the cartoon but not the name. At larst I can watch and get depressed with those retro feelings.
Thanks so much for sharing! I thought I'd dreamt this whole cartoon & theme song ! I've not seen this in over 20+ years
I'd forgotton about this. I like how he puts the WHOLE BOTTLE of brandy into his coffee
We used to call this the "Blue Bean" I remember watching it on channel 4, back in the 90s. So happy my sister found it on here.
Thanks for clarifying this was a thing and not a fever dream :)
Thank you so, so much for posting this! I have spent so long looking for any footage at all of Murun! You have made my year.
I spent most of the 80's stumbling through an alcoholic haze so I actually thought I'd dreamt this.
Thank you! I remember this cartoon being on at the time. Well done too!
Been searching for ages to find this, just because it used to freak me out as a kid. Found it by searching for 'Channel 4 animation 1980s weird'....
Same, took me a while to find it lol.
I searched for "depressing channel 4 cartoon"
Used to watch this on a YTV show called "Why TV". It featured cartoons from around the world. I loved "Kenny McTickle and His Magic Kilt" and "BeulBeule L'Hermite", too! :D

LOL,, that's so funny :O)

foxyshabazz I member,
Same here! Only me and my dad remember it, everyone else thinks I dreamed it or made it up!
The first name sounds Turkish, the surname Icelandic.
I hold precious memories of this. Me and my beloved mommy used to watch this together. 💕💕
I remember watching this as a kid thinking it's really weird. Watching it as an adult I'd have to say it's not weird at all.
The narrator’s voice for this show is oddly relaxing
I used to love this show. Loved channel 4 back in the day. It always showed weird and wonderful stuff. The narrator really sounds like Richard E Grant.
Thank you for posting ,brings back so many memories.
Good to see the original Channel 4 logo and theme as well. Murun Buchstansagar was very wierd to an 8 year old but he had early Channel 4 stamped all the way through it.
So glad to see this here! Thanks! What a flashback! Poor little head!
Sounds a lot like my days!
I have been looking for this for years!!!!! Thank you thank you thank you
LOL
He didn't want to spend the day in his hot, smelly crack. I think we echo that sentiment down the decades.
this is practically documentary about my life.
The memory and name of this just came to me while at work. It is just so incredibly depressing..
He's got good worked out arms. I remember this briefly back in the day.
Likewise!! If it weren't for my brother backing me up because he'd seen it too, all my friends and family would think I'd gone mad! "Murun Buchstansanwho?!?!?!"
Omg blast from the past! I was always fascinated by his wee shoes 😆
what a post..never thought i'd find this..i could never pronounce the name untill i spoke to this tv whiz who remembers everything...fantastic
I thought I'd imagined the whole thing. Wow is my shrink going to be stunned when I show her this.

This is the best comment on CZcams 🤣🤣🤣🥲
Amazing! I have been looking for ages too and was beginning to think it was lost forever. Thanks!
I like the episode where he sniffs glue.
I LOVED THIS in my late teens! x
been looking for murun for day! Thanks
amazing!! nobody who i have spoke to has ever heard of this before, im glad theres more than just me who used to watch it!!
I remember an episode where cousin Rossiter gets as the narrator says, "Rossiter was very very drunk".
I only remember this as that's my name & my best pal had gotten me into this cartoon.
This is weirdly really theraputic
I know what you mean, I think it’s the calm narration that does it
In a weird way I consider this one of my comfort shows
yeah
I woke up today thinking about this, took me ages to find it!
awesome
i can appreciate this now that i am older.
When the slight version of fourscore is played, it reminds me of when my mum was in her 20s
fucking brilliant. explains why I'm a fucked up adult.
LOL!!
awesome cartoon. used to watch as a kid. i'm sure it used to be on like 9pm in the evening!! an adults cartoon...
It was usually on late nights on Channel 4 as a sort of "schedule filler" to shore up small gaps in the schedule.
@@jtpinnyc I think at times it was also the first program of the day on Channel 4 at the time-like at about 1.05pm or so-but not too sure there though.
found it at larst , thanku for showing it ,
Fantastic...been looking for ages...Put some more up please...
I find it remarkable Murun is not essential reading for philosophy studies. I remember because it was riveting at the time and I recall few people even noticed it was on at the time........ I also remember one friend Roz who also knew of this at the time.
I thought I'd dreamed him, but I knew I hadn't...Wow!
I never missed an episode of this ! WTF ???
Thank you so much for posting this!
I finally got around to uploading those 2 episodes onto my account here.
Priceless. Thanks so much for sharing!
TheBox has a couple of other episodes of Murun available to torrent ;>
I LOVED THIS in my late teens! x
BUT ... we must NOT get his name wrong! It is not MORON he is by no means a.. 'moron'... his name is 'Murun'. Murun Buchstansangur. He is the BEST!!!! I have loved him dearly for nearly 30 years. x
Haha after so many yars I still remember Murun. What a surreal programme this was. Murun and his dirty crack! lol classic
Oh damn - he is me, except I would have to get unpleasantly far out of bed to make coffee in the morning.
This is my day.
Oddly scheduled (certainly for those days) after Channel 4's 7PM news and before e.g. Brookside
Did it used to be on Sunday afternoons ?
Definitely a strange show I wouldn't call it a cartoon .. but it never left my memory all these years later
well I realise its an ambiguous subject for you to agree on - Oedipus Complex and all, - but in what board meeting did they decide that a complement amounted to an insult?? I must've missed that one :)
If you have any more episodes, PLEASE upload!!
was he a rain drop? I don't know why but this is in the back of my mind ?
Good point. Shotgun blast to the head it is, the noise sending a flock of angry crows into the sky.....
I was wondering if I would ever find this again. I was certain I had seen this before. Just came across the name a few minutes ago. Just remember the character and him rolling an orange peeling and his girlfriend.
Just imagine this guy existed for real. And lived in your house.
Never seen this before, but hard relate.
Excellent!
I remember being completely baffled by this programme as a child, i suspect i'm not the only one...
I always thought they used to show it after Terrytoons Cartoons.
I'm glad its not an insult. Thank you
Murun Buchstansangur.
Sounds like a million years old viking demon.
My son who was born 1980 remembers this but I dont
Murun looks a bit like Belial, from Basket Case
Did he mention this in one of his shows? Do you remember which?
It's as if they let Morrissey make a cartoon
I once saw an episode when Murun has a red spot on his nose
The channel 4 continuity announcer is John Livesey
@frenziedcurtain Just seen your post on Muran BU... I have been asking people for the past 25 years whether they remembered this. No one did and I too began to think it was a figment of my otherwise dull imagination. Wait till I tell them all-they have believe me now!!
Does anyone know, exactly how many episodes of this there were?
Meanmanmartin2007 52
I insist on Rossiter's Brandy myself. Once you discover Rossiter's....nothing else will do
This is my life! 😅😅
Good old Channel 4.
Seems obvious that this was just some artist bod working through his depression.
"Körmöcbánya koboldja és meseboltja" c. ijesztő csehszlovák
bábfilmsorozatot nagyon régóta keresem. Az nincs meg véletlenül? Neten

yeay! finally people wont think Im making it up!
Yes at last Ive found it noone believed me either.
@frenziedcurtain "she's all" and "I'm all" - I bet your fun to listen to.
so i didn't imagine this.....
Oh firgot to mention , at 1:40 "his smelly crack" he mentioned lol! This is some weird shit
This is the weirdest thing I've seen in ages, there's no point
'and he would not spend the whole day cooped up in his stuffy, smelly crack' lamo!!
My goodness.
I think Muruns suffering with depression
This was the weirdest cartoon ever aired, who on earth was it aimed at? It went out at a time when kids weren't watching on a channel that had no children's TV department.
Really good point!!
@frenziedcurtain Yeah, everytime I ask anyone if they used to watch this they absolutely think I'm making it up
Wow, this is bleak as fuck. I quite like it.
@frenziedcurtain Fuck me, i couldnt remember his name either, so many little details, which nobody else knew!! i know how u feel!! Been asking myself for so many years!!
Always creepy and it always will be.
Is it just me or does Murun look like a Mr Man?
