What's mind-boggling is that VW says everywhere (in the manual etc.) to not leave the car below 20% or above 80% for longer periods of time and dealers often charge it to 100% or leave it below 20% for days even after the service is complete...

I had the same experience at my VW dealer. When my new ID3 was delivered to the dealer, the first thing they did was charge it to 100%. Since it took a few more days till I could get the car, it would just have sat there fully charged at freezing temperatures at the time. Not great.

I think you'd find that with Dealers, it doesnt matter how significant or insignificant the job is they want the car left in the morning for the whole day - It could be ready in an hour, could be 8 hours, just depends on where it gets slotted into the day. I think you'll find that they still run with very few EV specialists, so in a massive dealership you probably only have a couple of people doing all the EV work. Of course, in time the balance will change as the vehicle parc changes - but the whole day booking probably won't!

Took my Tour in to dealer yesterday morning at 08:00 and by 13:00 today they had completed both the battery check and update from 3.0 to 3.2.
Like yourself I only had to reselect myself as the driver and everything was just as it was when I left it with the dealer.
I left the car with 59% of battery and the charged it up to 85% for my collection. Was a 60 mile (100km) drive back from dealer and all good so far.
There were 2 updates to be completed, one for the We Charge app and the other for the games app.
Lets see how it goes from here.

Really great to hear your experiences. Here are mine (in UK) for comparison.
My ID.3 First was called in by the dealer. They said they needed it a whole week, but in the event it was ready next day. It turns out I have not one but *two* faulty battery modules, which they won't be able to replace until September (they say they're the only dealer in the area that has trained up as EV specialists, and they're swamped with work). I was lent a brand new ID.3 as a courtesy car. They kept me fully briefed all the way through, and really seemed to know their shit (unlike my dealings with the same guy first time it went in for a service).
*BUT* a week after picking up the car (with more charge than when I left it, BTW) I got the "Electric drive not working correctly" message and it hasn't gone away. The car seems to be working fine, but I'm going to have to take it back. Also, I had to reconnect my phone (the dealer warned me of this). I'm neither thrilled nor disappointed by 3.2 - I don't care as much as you do! - but I do like the fact that I can see my % state of charge without drilling down.
So: it sounds like the customer service I received was better than yours, but the effectiveness fell short.

In Holland this was combined to a total of 3 recalls: update 3.2, battery check and replacement of all Goodyear tires. Recalls 44T5, 97GY and 93P7.
My ID 1st original Goodyear tires already had to be changed 6 months earlier because they had huge rips. At that time I had to pay myself (under protest) but I was repaid when it became an official recall. So if you have Goodyear tires, haven them changed asap because they are dangerous!!!

I did the same thing as you, checked that australian site for recalls on my vin. Called up my dealer and got an appointment. Here in Norway the dealer now have partnered up with some ride sharing service called Hyre, so I had to install an app on my phone, register with national id service bankID, tak at least 4 photos of the loaner car before i could drive. I got a replacement ID3 when mine was at the dealer. It was set up so that it was controlled with the Hyre app. Opening and locking of doors, and starting the car was done via app, and I never got a key. I have never experienced not getting an electric car when mine is in at the dealer (over 10 times). My car had a faulty battery module, so that was changed, the car was updated, and they also did one other service recall I dont remember on the car. Delivered it in the morning, and got it back in the afternoon the day after. When my car has been at the dealer, it is always plugged in and charged up or charging when I come and pick it up. They have a 3-4 stories parking garage where all the stalls have EV-charging.

The battery check takes a few minutes, but it has to be done alongside the other software update. You start an update package, check the battery pack and continue with the software update packages. It takes around 6-7 hours and before we start the update we must first reset the infotainment to default settings. I'm a VW tech. Also, we always fully charge the car before returning it to the client.

They did not ask for a low battery for the HV check.

My id3 also got a recall for the exact same combination: battery check and software update.
Same duration for this activity, two whole days at the dealer workshop! I gave them the car at 8 in the morning on day one. That first day the dealer called around 2pm to say they had restarted the update again and were waiting for it to finish but it was best to leave them the car overnight. No problem for me as I had it planned during a week holiday. The next day I had to call them for an update... And they were still busy with it. They promised to call me back once finished.
At 5pm they called and told me I could collect the car before closing of the shop of course.
The person on the phone also warned me that they didn't had the opportunity to charge the car a bit and it was low on charge. That was of course as I also had read that the battery checkup was preferable done with just 20 to 25% charge...
As I only need to drive 13km to home I could take the risk and i arrived at home safely.
An issue before the update was that traffic sign recognition wasn't working nine of ten times but after the update that is now 1 out of ten times. Progress of course.

I just got my ID.3 Max 1st edition updated today in a local dealership. Left it at 8am and they called me at 16 to inform me that I can pick it up. There were a couple of other 'recalls' on the car including the battery check which showed no issues. I have asked them to reset the audio codecs which made my car sound like 80s boom box after the 3.0 update, which they did as well. One thing I have noticed is that as soon as I left my car with them, the VIN was removed from My WV account and I had to re-connect it. The car was also Factory reset so I had to go through settings one more time, which took 10 minutes or so. All in all, I am quite happy with the experience :)

Hi! I've been watching your videos ever since i decided to get an ID.3. now that i finally have my own, i can only thank you for all the information regarding this car. I really feel as happy with it as you seam to be!
I do, however, have 1 major frustration with it. When i picked up the car from the dealer I made some initial settings to it (like the ambient color drive mode and so on), later i found out the lower right mirror in reverse setting and how to have that set up. i do the setup, it works and the next day when i go back into the car everything is reverted to the setting i previously had (different ambient color, and reverse mirror not set-up). It's really frustrating. Do you know what I'm doing wrong and how i can setup my key/profile such that my setting are saved?
Thanks so much! a very enthusiastic ID.3 driver!

Great service from Breeze WV Poole as usual. Any work on main battery needs to be done at a special facility in Exeter. Our battery is in good shape.

On Friday 14th July at 17:30, received phone call from dealer stating "Had another complete update failure on iD3 - fifth or sixth. Have been advised to take no more cars in for update, contact VW High Voltage centre."
Contacted HV centre "We know there are problems and are allowing five days per update just in case!"
Now booked in for March 2024!!

Our ID3 is 2.3 but the alarm goes off every few weeks / months randomly and two weeks ago it would not connect to the app. I booked it in this week and they said it has two recall notices (so why hadn’t we been told) 1. To check the tyres ? And 2. For 3.2. So it’s booked in end of August. Since then the app has started to connect! We don’t mind having an ICE curtesy car what was really annoying was in the early days to be given an ID3 fully loaded with media branding. So it felt like you were driving an advertisement hoarding! Thankfully and sensibly VW appear to have stopped that.

The car still tells me it is not synchronised with my account. Problems fixed by the update include the panoramic roof blind now operates as it should, and the home location works so I can now use departure time charging and preconditioning which stopped working when 2.4 was installed in Aug 2022. The app now does not give the correct range for car, so it will show 80% charge and 90 miles of range. I’ll check the ACC setting in modes and report back.

In particular, it went back to clock mode and then to the welcome screen or, alternatively, to complete shutdown and restart. Has anyone experienced such a situation? Could it be a bug of the new version?
Second, after recharge to 80% the vehicle loose 16% charge (!) in 5 days parking. At day 5 the indicator showed 64% residual charge. Moreover, the service battery indicator lighted and a message warned that it was low. It seems to me that it still does not receive any power from the main battery. As far as I know it should.

A dangerous software bug when you use the Autohold function (holds the car once stopped). If you put the car in D or B with the door open (e.g. you want to check the curb side), the Autohold function is not active. So the moment you let go of the brake the car takes off. Only if you “start” the car with an open door……

    Got mine updated 3 weeks ago as well. 2 days : 2.4 -> 3.2
Since then, I can't use my app e.g. climatization via app. Just DOESN'T work. Which is a huge bummer for me. 😢 no hopes, support is willingly to help me.

I had this problem too when I updated to 3.2. The app would come up with air conditioning failed error. I took it back to the dealer and they said they had found a software issue and they had to reload 3.2. This is the first time in nearly 3 years of owning the car that I can say I don't have any problems with it. Keep complaining and take it back to the dealer

It so disappointing to pay so much and land up with a pup. My Kia E Niro has worked without fault or need for updates since I bought it 2.5 years ago. Would highly recommend Kia or Hyundai there streets ahead of VW. Especially the new models.

I have been driving VW for 30 years and I do like my 2023 ID3 Pro. But I have the impression VW has somehow lost its pride. The sales people seem very poorly trained, the interior of the car is dull, and even the messages in the entertainment system radiate little confidence. For example when searching for charging stations the system says something like “nothing found yet”. Why not say “looking for the best charging options near you”? Come on VW, you can do it!

back in the day, vw cared a lot more about just about everything. Last time I had service the mechanics were billed at $150 an hour. i bet the low-end employment doesn't get a tenth of that amount. In the last few years in the US people have been acting like children hating, glaring, and insulting just about everyone. So, there is a lot of paranoia going around. I have it. I question everything especially mechanics, construction, plumbers, etc. Then again it could have just download problems or some such.

Typical VW service, they are really ignorant and basically only cares about you, if you are part of a company that buys 100's of VW's every year.
I had a VW ID3 Max First Edition, I had to PAY(150 euro for 1 day) for a loner car when the shop was fixing defects on my car from factory. 5 weeks later I got rid of the car, never VW again. Worst costumer service I have ever met... insane how bad it was. I maybe had 20 calls to try to get someone at VW to pay for my loner car, but no one took responsibility.

How on earth do you suffer so many problems, did you buy just because it’s a German car ? I’ve Driven both the Hyundai Kona and currently the Kia Niro EV with no problems with the software what so ever. You liked the Kona so why on earth buy the ID3. It seems to me that VW has lost its way and if they were a little humble would seek help from Kia or Tesla as for sure their I.T. dept has lost the plot, they simple don’t have the expertise and it shows in poor sales and reduced production, people have lost confidence in VW.
