I'm from Belarus.
In 2019, I lived with my wife for a week in Warsaw (Poland).
And there are many Uber taxi drivers from Sri Lanka. We talked with one - such a sweet, kind guy, but said that he would not go to Poland again. He earns little money, he has to work a lot (he hasn’t lived in Belarus yet, ha-ha, Europe is so different).
My wife also said that she often communicates with Indians at work (the construction industry) and loves films with Shahrukh Khan. The taxi driver from Sri Lanka was very offended :(
I had to apologize and explain that we know the difference between Indians and the inhabitants of Sri Lanka (in the USSR they would call it Colombo Island).

I'm on Staten Island, NY, which has the largest Sri Lankan population in NYC and possibly the largest Sinhala speaking population outside of Sri Lanka (NYC Tamil Sri Lankans usually live in Queens, the Sinhalese are on Staten Island).
I use to live in Italy Milan and the sinhala population was pretty big - I would know because I am one of them lmao
@@GummylongtailMust be a thing with Sinhala liking to live close to Italians, because Staten Island also has the largest population of Americans of Italian descent (including people of partial Italian descent) in the USA. Of course we don't have many Milanese, mostly Sicilians, Calabrese, Pugliese (lots of people with roots from Bari here, so many businesses have "Bari" in the name). But very few people with Northern Italian roots.
Moses would have made a great Ambassador to the world. Rest easy.
I got to practice some Lao for the first time with a Native speaker before I left work last night!!!! It was so fun. I got to level up man!

There's a joke where I live, that goes, what's green and knows every language? The inner city bus. There's hardly any native people that lives in my town, so that's why that joke exists.
And if anyone from where I live reads this and I mention the district, they'll agree, there's no place like Ljungdala anywhere else on earth. It's surprising to meet another person of Swedish nationality here at all. And that was before the Arabs came here in 2015... now it's even harder, it's the old that haven't died yet that are the ones one might see that are Swedish, otherwise there's mostly Africans and Asians here, other than the Middle Easterners. Some Russians, A lot of Balkan people, I mean, my latest colleague is Iranian, I got an Ethiopian colleague, I have a lot of Bosnian colleagues and a lot of Arabic colleagues, Swedish colleagues, are rare, I think that there's less than 20 Swedish colleagues, and I think we're like closer to 80 people working on our branch of the company.

Just got to know that Laoshu, the polyglot in the video died on the 4th of March 2021. As we all could see the man was a nice human being who built bridges between different communities through his skill.

There were a lot of spelling errors in the Sinhalese subtitles, and at 20:10, it said "Hindi" with the Indian flag with Hindi subtitles but he said ස්තුතියි (sthuthi), which is Sinhalese.
Great video though. Sinhalese is a language from a tiny island with less than 20 million speakers, so this was a pleasant surprise.
I am not surprised that you found Sinhalese easy to learn because you knew Japanese and Korean. The grammar is indeed very similar, almost the exact same. I am a native Sinhalese speaker and I learnt Korean very quickly too - learnt the alphabet and was able to read Korean in about 15 minutes (it's that easy). So, *if any Sri Lankans want to learn a new language* , *try Korean* , *it is really easy for Sinhalese speakers* !
However, I have to say, spoken Sinhalese (which you used in the video) is a lot easier to learn than formal Sinhalese. Formal Sinhalese is only used in very formal situations and for official stuff, so anyone who learns spoken Sinhalese will be more than fine when they go to Sri Lanka.
