I've always thought that Mr White was like Gurren and the others with his own team. Either they were the tenkai knights of their time or they were partnered with the guardians.
See, the fact that he said that he's been to Quarton indicates he alongside Gurens father used to be 2 of the knights. What I still wanna know is..... 1. Which ones were they? 2. Where are the other 2? 3. What happens at the end when Gurens core brick starts glowing again? 4. How much do you wanna bet that Gurens father knew everything from the get go?
