    Welcome to the Sabaton Army.
The first thing you should know about Sabaton is that every song is about a piece of history, things that has happend, and in this song it was the Christmas Truce of 1914 when the soldiers in the trenches spontaneously started singing christmas carols and then one english speaking german soldier took the first step out of the trenches onto No Mans Land and was followed by an brittish counterpart. That happend in several places but it didn't sit well with the Powers That Be and following years they prohibited such truces under the pain of court-martial.
Second, the pronounciation is on the first "a" in Sabaton, i.e. it's pronounced S*a*baton and not Sab*a*ton ;)
Third, Sabaton has their own History Channel - Sabaton History, where they tell the historical facts about the events they sing about. Also, they never glorify war - anyone who says that don't understand Sabaton. They're storytellers, modern day bards, who teaches us history with music as their medium.
Fourth, you never stop a Sabaton song but let it run its course. Quite often they have messages at the very end and if you miss that you miss a lot of the context of the song and why they wrote it. This time there wasn't such a message but you cut off Nightwish's Floor Jansen (who did the operatic singing) at the end, and fun fact - she's married to the drummer of Sabaton.
Fifth, now that you've been introduced here are some suggestions: En livstid i krig (Gothenburg concert, it's in swedish so you need captions but that's the hands down best version), No Bullets Fly (animated story), Devil Dogs and Defence of Moscow to begin with.
    Good Journey

Sabaton is a Swedish metal band that sings songs about military history so everything they sing about ACTUALLY HAPPENED. They hold true to the metal they grew up listening to in the early 1990's, i.e. Maiden, Priest, Metallica, etc. The band is huge in Europe and they are gaining traction in the US --mostly by people over the age of 40. Most members are in their 30's so they have a lot of time left to make great music!

Sabaton base almost all their songs on historical events and they research for accuracy. Outside of a history lecture you'll likely not find better historical event accuracy and detail than in a Sabaton video and song, they are as professional about their history as they are about the music itself.
So 100% this song is based on actual events during the first year of WW1 (1914-18) where soldiers spontaneously emerged from the trench lines around Christmas Eve and a period of unofficial truce occurred, the Christmas Truce was not universal, but was very wide spread, and in some places it lasted into the New Year. Following the 1914 truce the high commands on both sides specifically issued commands and warnings that such behaviour should not happen again, so in 1915 while some similar evets occurred they were much rarer and by 1916 it was almost unknown. The tragedy is many of the young men who participated in the 1914 truce depicted here had roughly 4 more years of war to endure, many of them were killed or crippled, many others permanently mentally scarred. The last minutes of the video action where they are fighting exemplifies this tragedy.

Perhaps the best thing about this band*, music aside, is how it draws in people who perhaps were never that pulled towards history, sure it'd be easy to spoon feed you the instance, but just pump in Christmas truce and you'll find a gem from world war one.
Oh, and as I edit this, I hope the comment doesn't come across as a snobbery sod snarking off at ya, just someone with a real love for history. Found if you're not delving through books and tomes, you might not get the full raw power that it weighs with. If ya just read a sentence that states what happened, it's easy to go: " Oh, that was a thing. " And move along. To imagine these were real people, real thoughts, instances that could have gone one way or the other, the reaction from the officers and such, how tragically it failed to do much in terms of ending a war that was fought for almost no reason at all.
And there I go spurting on about it. Heh, the things history does to someone who wants to live it as best as it deserves.

Sabaton creates and sings songs about heroes, military history, notable historical events, and war. They do not glorify war… but they do write unbiased, honest, songs about heroes and history of all Nations. They honor heroes and tell the tales in epic fashion. They are talented, awesome, and very unique at what they do. I always tell people that they are kind of like Metal Bards. You will love this journey if you decide to discover more of their music. Also side note… their drummer Hannes is married to Floor Jansen of Nightwish and that was Floor singing the amazing outro to “Christmas Truce”. 🙂🎄👍🏻

@Schnell Jordan: I know this is your first reaction to Sabaton, so I forgive your mispronunciation of the name.
The proper pronunciation is "sah•buh•t•on," not "suh•bah•ton." And what most people don't know is, a "sabaton" is actually a piece of medieval armor that goes underneath a grieve (lower leg armor), but over a boot (no shoes in medieval warfare, only boots).
The melody of this song, by the way, is a variation of Carol of the Bells -- which is why it might seem familiar to you. It is one of the most well-known Christmas songs, and it is my personal favorite song during the holidays.

Sabaton always deliver and go above and beyond, you get amazing music and you learn something interesting about history as well - all of the songs that they do are based on historical events, Christmas Truce was the 1914 truce, Final Solution which is about the Holocaust are both well known stories (at least in the UK they are generally taught at high school), but they do a lot of obscure pieces of history, Livguard (Sweden Royal Guard), No Bullets Fly (A german WW2 pilot saves the lives of an American bomber).
They also do a video on the Sabaton History channel, for all or if not most of their songs, which goes into more detail about the event, the amount of research and respect for the history that these guys put into their music is incredible

in the christmas of 1914 the trenches on both sides laid down their arms in an unofficial siezefire to celebrate christmas. it lasted for 3 days total, that particular day and 2 more days there after. sadly, they were ordered back to battle after that. understandably, many of the soldiers on both sides couldn't bring themselves to fight each other after getting to know each other during those few short days and hence had to be transferred to different fronts. there were many more similar acts of chivalry and kindness such as this one throughout both WW1&2, but this one was one of a kind and nothing came even close to the scale of the christmas seize fire. they even made a movie (albeit not entirely historically accurate) about it.

The funny bit is that Joakim _(the singer)_ actually joined the band as their keyboard player. It is an ongoing joke that the band still needs a singer. The Carol of the Bells into is played in reverse octave so as to illicit sadness and despair as opposed to joy and hope. In the middle of the song he plays it in a higher key to lean back into hope... and falls back down the octaves in the end.

They will be releasing their 10th studio album on March 4th 2022.
Nice thing about them is that their video's never blocked so it's CZcams safe. (except for some Wacken video's that gets blocked by Wacken)
If you really want to go down the Sabaton rabbit-hole, I would recommend these:

[Great Tour Live Videos]: En Livstied I Krig (make sure to turn subtitles on), Red Baron, Swedish Pagans, Primo Victoria, Fields of Verdun, Devil Dogs & Angels Calling
[Lyric videos]: Attack of the dead men, The Final Solution, In Flanders Fields, 82nd All the way, Sparta, Shiroyama, Cliffs Of Gallipolli and The lost betallion

The song is about a Swedish soldier, drafted to the 30 years war in Europe, 1618-1648).
Oh, btw... Floor Jansen was singing the ending credits in "Christmas Truce". Her husband is the drummer of Sabaton (the first guy showing up in the video... )

This is about a real event, a spontaneous truce that began when, on Christmas Eve, the weary troops heard each other sing the same Christmas carols in their different languages.
Really cinematic Sabaton videos are Bismarck, Fields of Verdun, Defense of Moscow, Hell and Back, Coat of Arms... but don't neglect the live videos, they're power metal and the power metal fans like to be involved in the show. See Ein Livstig Krieg.

An unofficial Christmas truce started in the Ypres Forrest in Belgium on December 24,1914. As I said it was not an official order, but was started by soldiers on the front lines. They crossed into no man’s land and talked, shared food and drink, and even had a game of soccer,( football). Orders were issued on December 26 that such a truce was never to be attempted again by either side. This was shortly before chemical weapons came into use heavily by both sides, so a lot of distrust developed on both sides, and there has never been another Christmas truce since

That cross still stands at the exact place it was erected in 1914 at the side of a nowadays field, not the original anymore, but a replica. The location is in the middle of what used to be the no man's land during the first battle of Ypres, it is located near Commines-Warneton (Belgium) not far from the French border, not one day passes without fresh flowers, or even footballs being placed at the base of the cross, remembrance counts! Lest we forget

When I was in school during the 40s/50s, I barely remember this "story". During WWI, there was massive fighting and death in the fields of France (commonly known as "No Mans Land"). Whether true or not, the story is that during Xmas (1914 or 1915), a truce occurred when members of both the Grermans and Axis soldiers came onto the battlefield and laid down their arms for the Xmas period, but returned to massive fighting after that.
I never heard of or the term Sabaton Army. That's my only reaction that I recall after 70 years. Fascinating story, if true, but I'm kind of amazed that you even came up with this selection...very strange !!
Now, I'm ready for more merry and cheerful Xmas reactions...Pentatonix

Let me guess you are american. If yes it is clear that you never heard of this truce because this was before the US joint the war and this part is normaly not taught in the US. Yes this truce realy happend all over the western front and was done from the normal soldiers. The high commands on both side dident liked it and forced the troops to start the fighting again. At a lot of the parts of the front the troops needet to be transfeart to other parts of the front where they dident know the enemys because the dident want to fight the people the had celebrated christmas with. Sorry for my bad english.

Christmas Truce if 1914 where the British French and German sides came together on Christmas Day as a truce. A German emerged from the trenches and into No-Mans-Land and said “marry Christmas” in his language to the French and British thus the truce began they actually played football (soccer) with each other! They gave each other gifts as if they were family. But the next day.....the battle started.....and after that both nations decided never to have a truce like that again....

Christmas Truce, (December 24-25, 1914, Ypres, Flanders, Belgium), unofficial and impromptu cease-fire that occurred along the Western Front during World War I. The pause in fighting was not universally observed, nor had it been sanctioned by commanders on either side, but, along some two-thirds of the 30-mile (48-km) front controlled by the British Expeditionary Force, the guns fell silent for a short time. The cross is replaced in1999
The countries of Europe went to war in the summer of 1914 with enthusiasm and the belief that the conflict would be over by Christmas (December 25) of that year. Within only a few months, however, hundreds of thousands of soldiers had been killed in heavy fighting. The German advance had been checked at the Marne, and the “Race to the Sea” between Germany and the Allies had played out at Ypres. The result was a bloody stalemate, with a front that stretched from the Swiss border to the North Sea.

OMG you cut off Floor singing the credits , (she is married to the Drummer of Sabaton, the German soldier with the long blonde hair) aside from that great reaction , for more on this topic there is a decent movie (2005) "Joyeux Noel" (Merry Christmas) shows the German, French & British (well a Scottish unit) , sadly when word of these events got out many units were punished and relocated to other sections of the line were the fighting was more savage. and then they made sure on holidays they would launch attacks and such. but the war took a turn and got more deadly esp once GAS started to be used in 1915 some soldier tried to repeat the event of 1914 but were shot .

The Christmas Truce of 1914 is one of those stories that restores faith in Humanity. By Christmas 1914, the First World War had been waging for nearly 5 months. When these men had enlisted, they had been told the war would be so quick, they would be home in time to spend Christmas with their families. However, trench warfare caused the war to go on much longer than initially thought. Then on Christmas Eve, across the Western Front, multiple British, French, and German units (and some Austrian and Russian units on the Eastern Front), engaged in unofficial ceasefires. The popular story is that the British could hear the Germans singing Stille Nacht, or Silent Night, and started to sing along in English. From there, men left the trenches, went into No Man's Land, and celebrated Christmas together. They exchanged things (one German soldier gave his helmet away), sang more songs, played soccer, and even helped each other bury their dead. However, these were unofficial ceasefires. There were spots where fighting continued and the higher ups made sure such an event would not be repeated.

Sabaton is pronounced "Sa-buh-taan". Sabaton is what the armored boot of Knights armor is called.
The current band members are Joakim Broden - Lead Singer/Piano
    Par Sundstrom - Bassist
    Chris Rorland - Rhythm Guitar
    Tommy Johannson - Lead Guitar
    Hannes Van Dahl - Drummer
The Christmas Truce of 1914 is what this song is about. Joakim, Par and Hannes are portraying German Soldiers, and Chris is portraying a British Soldier and Tommy is portraying a French Soldier.
If you continued to listen to the outro, you would be listening to Hannes's wife Floor Jansen. Floor is a Singer for another band, Nightwish.

The Great War, the Apocalypse of the Old World, the War to end all Wars, the World War - the bloodsoacked end of the long 19th century and the opening act of the bloody 20th.
    World War One.
This was very early in the War, winter 14/15, Christmas '14, we see french troops in blue over red uniforms, kepis, caps, pickelhauben ("spiked helmets"), nothing yet reflecting the realities of a war that has turned into a theater wide siege.
Here German, British and French troops heard charoling across no man's land and ended up just halting the war for a couple of days (here it's condensed) over christmas and celebrated together, the last remainder, the last glorious hurrah of a common European identity (of course, though not only, a chauvinustic one based among other things on beeing superiour to the savages elsewhere, it's the high imperialist age...) soon to be consumed in the fires of the World Wars, not to re-emerge from the ashes for a long time and only now, over a hundred years after the seminal cathastrophe, is very slowly and tenously re-emerging...
It's really an equally uplifting and depressing story.
    Best regards
    Raozl G. Kunz
