Flamenco talks to the soul, even the most hardened souls fall prey to the beauty of this art.
Flamenco, originally, was the dance of "pena negra"-- or, dark suffering. Women weren't originally allowed to participate, but then convinced male counterparts that they too were subject to the "dark suffering." Then Flamenco became the duos we see now. And yes, I agree, it not only speaks to, but reveals the soul... of our dark suffering.

As a flamenco dancer myself i think the hard part is learning to perform your upper body and feet at the same time. And that's only achievable when you stop thinking the steps and flow with the music. If you are able to stop thinking and feel the music, it always seems effortless!

The thing I love the most, you have two people of Arab/North African/Levant heritage playing and dancing to the music of Spain. It just proves that music knows NO color, religion, creed, sex or ideology. What it does know is how be lovingly expressed from the soul of the individual and that is what makes it so beautiful.
if you dig into the history of flamenco you will find out its origins are from the dances of the gypsies (now called roma) from india (rajastan specifically) that travelled into europe and settled in spain. also a lot of arab people are mixed with indian too because during the muslim conuest of india arabs used to go "take wives" (=kidnap women) from india

This is one of my 'fixes' each night! She is so beautiful yet powerful (gorpas is that the right word? I don't want to say stomping. Is not right. It's flamenco/farruca). The empty building has a really great live sound. Perfect for this. I just love this, and Melina does make this look effortless. A great dancer and also the guitarist!
