He is superb here, yes. But not always! If you look over his entire catalogue of works, you will find a few where he has missed the mark. This is true of all great composers. Not a single one has ever achieved a body of work that is free of at least one or two inferior works. He is not always superb. He was a human being after all! One place that comes to mind where he is not superb (and this may be a matter of my taste) is in the otherwise beautiful slow movement of the op. 9 violin sonata: suddenly, and pointlessly too, Szymanowski has a quick trio section: the new music does nothing whatsoever to the structure except interrupt the beautiful content, disrupting the flow as it were, and the contrast is not convincing.

I love no.2 and 3 but these performances are really bad..
