TGV: I started watching your channel a couple months ago, and it seems you are having a rather inordinate amount influence on me! On Monday I got my new (very inexpensive!) Timex 38mm quartz black Navi-Harbor, which I "absolutely adore," and then today in the mail I finally got my copy of Aurelius' "Meditations."
Now, I'd like to send you a book I think you'll enjoy, albeit perhaps less profound than Marcuse's tome. Do you have a mailing address you could provide?
The book is a short story collection, written by my dog. It's 8 short stories and a 135 pg novella, "Impacts and Collisions," that I think you will find of particular interest, since there is a quite iconic watch from the 1950s that actually figures into the story.
      www.intermittentpublications.com/
Would you please be so kind as to give me a mailing address, I'll shoot a copy out to you. If you like, you can email me through the website linked above. Thanks.
      Kindest Regards,
      JG

I was watching a Breitling Chronospace in store windows for years , longing after it but never willing to part with enough money to buy it. To my utter shock, my wife bought it for me as a gift 8 years ago. While I love it more today than the day I got it, I only wished I had worn it more. I would never have an important enough event to wear it and it laid dormant in my watchbox, never seeing the light of day. TGV changed all that! Watches are made to be enjoyed not stuffed away in a box! I am wearing it much more now and even put a few small dings into it, which I actually love. They are just a way to make this watch MINE and mine only! I love the passion TGV brings to his videos! Thank you for filling my watchbox and emptying my checking account!!!!

I bought an Omega Speedmaster Professional over 25 years ago after my first trip at sea after completing my merchant navy cadetship. At the time it was an extravagant purchase but I had always wanted one and in a weird way it is probably the most sensible thing I have ever bought as it has never dated, has been utterly dependable and it has given me so much joy. Given all the years of pure joy it was a bargain. I have several nice watches (not many, I am not a collector) but the Speedmaster is the one I wear most and I could quite happily live with it as my only watch. Yes it is the ultimate watch cliché (well, maybe apart from a Rolex) but it is genuinely iconic and the price is not ridiculous. I have considered buying the calibre 321 reissue but I will not part with my old friend. I also have a Fortis B42 official cosmonaut, an extremely solid and well made under rated watch which again is not crazily expensive.

Ironically enough, the Breitling Navitimer is a watch that I myself had fallen out of love with...and then fell back in love in recent months. I recently did a re-buy of the Navitimer Heritage which I sold a few years ago, but now with it back on the wrist, I wonder why I ever did! To paraphrase Uma Thurman in “Pulp Fiction”, there are Navi people and Speedy people. I just happen to be the former.

The Speedy Pro was my first grail watch, and a HUGE achievement for me when I finally secured it. I finally pulled the trigger because I was getting married, turning 40, and graduating from a very long course of study, all within the span of a year. What a great way to remember those important life events! While certainly not rare, it's a special watch in its heritage, design, and place in horological history. Its place in the iconic watch discussion only serves to prove that point.
As a longtime subscriber to the channel, I know you've given expansive coverage to the Speedy.... but I would always appreciate more. It really is a wonder to see how far you, and this channel, have come since the days of reviewing coffee makers.

As a kid I collected outer-space themed postage stamps from around the world, so it's neat to see that there options along that line in watches.
Also, I am glad you aren't ashamed of your "Ripley!". Those two movies influenced countless movies and videogames ever since. And managed a strong female 💪 lead without all the baggage that would come with these days.

When you spoke about collecting habits - I am sure most of us made mistakes in the begining, and also had second thoughts about some watches, which resulted in sale. I've had 2 speedys, and 3 seamasters, over last 5 years, and now I have just one SM 300 proffesional. But that is the thrill of it, the journey, the experience you get out of these watches that came through your life. For example, back in the day, I was crazy about Hublot. Had 3 of them. Only one left now, and that one (38mm fusion) is there, mostly, because my wife loves wearing it on the beach, twice a year, while the rest of the time, it sits in a watch box. So, Hublot didn't make me happy, I understood it's not what I want and learned, the harder way, what a waste of money that was, but yet, when I see how my wife enjoys it on a vacation, it fullfilled it's purpose - to be loved and worn.
P.S. I am pretty sure I will never own a speedy again, but still, would enjoy a re-visit.

Never owned a speedy but I do have a navitimer (thanks to you haha) and do really enjoy it but I always baby it because I feel like it's a little fragile. I only wear it in certain circumstances. My favorite chronograph that I have ever owned is the Sinn 356. Now it is quite thick, but you do not notice it as most of the thickness is due to the tall domed crystal. If Sinn made a hand wind variant of the 356 they would have a absolute home run. The 356 is crazy accurate, has a workhorse movement, its tough with 100 meters of water resistance, and under 40mm so it's very nicely sized. The matte finish is also nice as it doesn't look bad scratched up like a polished piece either. Anyway great job as always, stay safe with all the craziness.

    Hi TGV
Nice to see you setting a good example canceling your visit to the museum all though it’s probably a cool location for a video. Some other time, hopefully😊
I do understand your loosing a bit of interest in the Speedy. There’s other space watches and certainly other chronographs. But the most important legacy of the Speedy is perhaps it’s luring so many watch enthusiasts into this hobby. In that respect it’s probably still the most important space watch, maybe even one of the most important watches as such...
Like the Fortis, but it’s VERY tooley. Like the Breitling, but it’s VERY busy. Like the Seiko, but it’s VERY 80’s style. So what’s left? Yup, that charming WW2 Omega is my favorite of the bunch though they’re all very cool watches😉
Stay safe and keep up the good work👍

I wear it on the black Omega "croc" strap, which highlightst the stunning monochromatic design. I own several other watches, amongst those a Stowa Marine 36 manual, and a Guinand Series 40.50.10. These two especially, are these days my beloved go-to everyday watches. As much as a like those two, I always end up with the Speedy, when my day need a "boost of beaty". The Speedy is the watch, that I will pass on to the future generation. I dont care if the value goes up or down - time itself, is worth more than any watch. Enjoy the day !

What a fantastic group of watches! You are a lucky guy, TGV. :)
I was looking for some of those and the Breitling is my grail. Now I have the amazing blue 3-hander Fortis Cosmonauts 38mm.

Bought the squalie1521 on mesh in that beautiful blue after watching your channel, while reading with my glasses on i started looking at my watch in more detail, noticed a lot of imperfections and scratches on it and a blemish on the dial, that drove me crazy, this was bought from a proper dealer in Italy, sorry i didnt buy the orris aquas instead, or waited for a omega, would have sent it back but they have bigger problems in northern Italy right now, gonna put Erica originals in orange on it and get it cleaned and polished buy a proper watch maker when all this corona virus stuff dies down. That blue still draws me in and its truly stunning, Stay safe in Brooklyn, Brian in Ireland

I personally believe Omega Speedmaster is the BIGGEST strap monster. Perhaps a video that works as a style guide of Speedmaster might be interesting. EX: "How to pair it with leather straps, nato straps, mesh bracelet etc"

Good content during these hard times. Hope you, your wife, Hugo and Tiddlywinks are doing well TGV. An Omega is on my wish list and came from the 4th Transporter movie lol. The Frank Martin character wears one in that movie and there is a nice close up of it in his first scene.

You've outdone yourself. I didn't know Fortis info at all. At first I thought its only more Omega, Omega then SPITFIRE... We're in a state of emergency here in Ontario. No restaurants, reduced hours... So this was a nice surprise.

Brilliant video. Absolutely love hearing all the watch history and story rather than just comparing specs and price. Love Fortis as a company too. Not super convinced on that dial, but in regards to it’s function it’s an impressive piece of engineering. I’m definitely going to have to own one eventually. Just like to also add that CZcams vids like these give me a much needed escape right now during so much anxiety. Thank you for that.

Hi TGV, thanks some much really enjoyed the content and I personally would appreciate you re-addressing the speedy as often considered buying one, although more than often get lost in the various additions of choice finding it a bit bewildering along with understanding the most important part, an appropriate price to buy because i feel its possibly easy to over spend given the brand name and history its attached to. Anyhow onwards up wards, all the best!!!
