    Rest In Peace to a legend known as Jerry Ivan Allison. His drumming and experimental percussive expressions were a vital element in the Crickets sound which were most influential for the bands of the 1960’s. He should rest easy knowing that his music will be listened to 1,000 years from now. The Crickets were the first major group to inspire a teenage garage rock sound with the biggest noise coming from the fewest instruments and players. Thank you again Jerry for your dynamic drumming and vision for authentic sounds for rock music. Now the Crickets can perform in heaven with the original lineup.

    As a 23 yr old who lives only a little over an hour from clear lake and havs been to the crashsite and the surf several times this story has always been important to me and felt close. I love both of the movies even tho obviously parts of them liberties were taken like usual. Buddy holly was a big part of me getting into that era of music so thank you to him and the crickets been gone over 60 years and still making a difference. Jerry was such a genuine nice guy his passing affected me like many others on here..

    I'm terribly saddened over his passing.
    As a huge fan and researcher of Jerry & The Crickets for 28 years, i want to thank you a lot for this nice tribute to the greatest and most innovative r'n'r drummer ever, for so many reasons.. While most great rock drummers were mere sidemen, Allison's role was completely the contrary.
    In 1960, by the time he hadn't turn 21 yet, he had already penned several r'n'r inmortal classics with Buddy like That'll Be The Day, Peggy Sue, Tell Me How, Well Allright, Not Fade Away..
    He was the half of Buddy & The Crickets' sound, he had already setted what r'n'r drumming was, createing a brand new and unique kind of sound, rhythms and patterns that hadn't been ever used in rock music before, by playing impossible paradiddles, toms triplets, or just a cardboard box, knees slapping or hitting a cymbal..
    He had stablished as a very requested session drummer, for Eddie Cochran ( the marching band on Cherished Memories was his idea), The Everly brothers (his tom tricks on 'Till I Kissed You made the song), Johnny Burnette ( You're 16..) and many others, while touring and fronting his own band, The Crickets.
    He was not a mere session drummer either, he often made the session unique and distinctive..What an uncanny gift...
    Many other awesome songs would come later co-wtitten with Sonny Curtis like "More Than I Can Say", ",When You Ask About Love", "The last song i'm ever gonna sing" and many many others.
    If anybody can come with any drummer who had achieved all this at 20, just le me know...
    Thanks for your unique music legacy J.I., and rest in peace.

    Interesting interview Joe. JI Allison seems like a happy content person. Had to be an exciting time starting out in Lubbock for JI. Always try and picture how it would have been traveling even to the UK/Europe as JI done in the late 50's early 60's . Traveling like like that gives you life lessons/memories you couldn't buy for all the money in the world. Am working on the WayBak machine out in the shed. When i get it operational i will do a permenant loan to MHoFM for use to dial back to any date. Thanks again.

      @@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum So glad you got to wish JI a happy birthday. I'm 76 and know how back pain can slow you down...ouch!
      My wife and I got to meet JI and JoeB on their bus following a mid-1990s show at Louisville's Memorial Auditorium. Such gentlemen; they gave us an autographed cassette of HOLLY WOULD which they had recently cut in England with McCartney. A treasured gift. Ironically, Memorial Auditorium (still at Fourth& Kentucky Sts, Louisville) was scheduled to be one of the last venues on the Winter Dance Party Tour, February 1959. A new, very popular local band, The Sultans, were to be the warm-up act. Sadly, that never happened.

      @@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum hello if you could get J.i in touch with me. I have something of his he may want back.. my father was at a show in 1960 when the crickets were backing the Everly brothers and on the ground outside by the tour bus was a letter addressed to J.i from Buddy Holly. This must of fell from his pocket. He must be missing it something fierce . It was passed down to me and my father actually had the signature certified with a full COA . But we would never sell it.. I never thought it would ever be at all possible to get in contact with him but reading that you have contact with him. This seems to be a miracle. My name is Kristopher. I have the letter in a safe deposit box in Lansing mi. Where I reside. I can find a way to get his cherished letter back to him. Please get back to me

      Hi Blue.... Ok... First ...J.I is one of my best friends... I’d love to interview him more... This interview was our first( pilot show) for Musicians Hall Of Fame”Backstage” show which uses the black booth and for the first time I’m included in the video instead of a one camera shoot with me behind the camera. I didn’t really know how it would turn out and since it was being made to be shown on a local tv station here in Nashville we were holding it to 30 minutes. It was never intended to be shown on CZcams. Here’s what I will do....I’ve got some of the one camera interviews with J.I , Joe B. and Sonny Curtis I’ll go back and edit under the “Vault Series “ interviews as soon as I can. I think you’ll enjoy them.O.K.... Thanks for watching... Joe

    Could you immagine the Crickets with Waylon recording into the 60's and beyond?

  • @jimcollier7869
    @jimcollier7869 Před 4 lety +13

    I read that same thing in Waylon's book. I'm a BIG Buddy Holly fan, but I also like alot of the Crickets music they did later too. I don't think Buddy could have found a better group of guys to rock with. It's nice to think they would have gotten back together. Sometimes I wonder if Buddy would have grown his hair out and smoked weed in the sixties, had he lived.
