Fantastic video LD! The very interesting thing about Asetek Sim Sports is the fact that all their entry-level products are all upgradable! For example, the La Prima pedals can be upgraded to the Forte and Invicta Spec. The wheelbase can be upgraded to the Forte Spec and the Steering wheel to the Forte Spec. Asetek will sell you all the components and you will be able to complete all the upgrades by yourself. It's a matter of switching the old PCB and adding the kill switch for the Wheelbase, swapping the throttle and brake mechanisms for the pedals and adding buttons, paddles and a faceplate for the wheel! This is a fantastic idea and it makes me like this brand even more!!!
Got mine last week and think it's incredible. 12nm is plenty for me. When they roll out more wheel options it's going to be unbeatable
It's a strong contender. Both physically and economically. I'm very impressed and you're right. more wheels = more business for them
Just subscribed after the first video, you seem very passionate and i love it
What a amazing review
It’s a brilliant time to get into sim racing. Lots of good quality gear at more realistic prices. Great stuff.
It is, now if the software (games) would catch up we could stop playing the same sims that are 10+ years old .
@AsetekSimSports a round first party wheel is needed, even more so then an Invicta GT/Formula wheel.
yep 100% agree. We'll wait for a screen, etc. We just need a great round rim!
I can’t believe they launched an ecosystem with only a formula rim and not a 300mm round wheel. If your only going to have one wheel available it needs to be round and 300mm is the best size compromise that works for everything. Not too big and clunky for formula cars and not too small to be unusable for drifting, rallying or road cars. It turned me off buying into their ecosystem and I’m sure many others too.
Posting from December 2023.
With the new wheel hubs and wheel rims, this complaint is now moot. I'm definitely going Asetek as my upgrade. Good stuff!
I bought the Tony Kanaan bundle from Micro center for $900. The TK bundle comes with a la Prima base with the Forte usb hub on the back as well as the Forte wheel without the clutch paddles. I have not been able to use it yet as my rig is not here yet but I’m sure it will be light years ahead of my G920 on the TV tray :)
@@LaurenceDusoswa some people got the bundle for $310. Micro Center made a mistake in pricing once and sold a bunch of them at $310 and I thought $900 was a good deal so I jumped on it.
When you turn the force feedback to max, your smile are big! Im just thinking, its the smile bigger if you are setting you over in the Forte base and drive at the same car and track :D
Good question. Part of my smile is because I put myself in the place of a consumer. The experience and the value are just amazing. I would be smiling so hard about my choice. I’m happy for people who bought this hardware.
Just a heads up, the Madison Heights Michigan Micro Center has the TK bundle for $999. Two in stock as of this moment
Saw on their website that console compatibility coming in the future 😍
Hopefully but I bet that’s a long way away. Console compatibility requires special hardware chips so current hardware is unlikely to be compatible with console in future
This seems like a very good deal on face value but check prices for your region! In Canada with taxes and shipping this bundle comes to $2200. A 23nm simagic alpha u and gts wheel is $2000 with taxes and shipping. Fanatec csl elite v2 pedals are $400. Basically for an extra $200 you can have three pedals and almost double the power with a 300mm round wheel that’s more versatile. Just something to consider.

Congratulations for your videos. Between the Asetek la Prima and the Simagic Alpha Mini wheelbases, which is the best, according to your experience and your tests?
Thank you in advance for your answer.
I just purchased the TK bundle from Micro Center discounted to $1,000. Apparently it's the La Prima base and pedals with the Forte formula wheel
@@zach.tempone When I said I purchased it I meant that I put it in the cart for later pickup. I never did complete the purchase so all the better that it's on sale now. Is it just this item or are they having another one of their everything sim racing sales?
@@zach.temponethinking about pulling the trigger too at 800. Did you end up getting it? How is it?
I messaged my local store yesterday and they switched it back to 799 and I picked it up today
I'm about to pull the trigger on a DD sim rig and am quite heavily leaning towards the Simagic Alpha Mini (+ Heusinkveld Sprint pedals). However, this certainly offers a very interesting value proposition. The only thing that truly bothers me, is the look of the wheel. For lack of a better description, it looks like it came out of a fancy arcade. This is obviously super subjective, but something I'm very particular about.
They obviously want to keep people within their ecosystem as much as possible, but I think the option to buy the wheel-base seperately wouldn't be a bad option to have. That or a base+pedal set. Especially since they don't have a round wheel option yet and I think a lot of people still prefer that as a more all-round option.
Have you watched my recent comparison of all wheelbases in this price range. It might help you with your decision
@@LaurenceDusoswa I most certainly have! Judging from that video (along with other reviews), I'm confident there's not really a 'wrong/bad' choice. I'm not in a rush just yet, so just giving it some more time before committing.
@@zakariya5110 I did yeah. Eventually I just went with the Simucube 2 Pro. I knew I'd want to upgrade to it eventually, so I decided to save myself money and just skip a step.
12nm is that true sweet spot i hope to bw there by next year with a R12 and have a better cockpit m getting a second job to work part time so its possible
im curious , I have Moza r9 , which 9nm is enough for me. Moza r9 vs Asetek 12nm. What makes it so much better. Thank you :)
Have you had any problems trying to play F1 23 with the asetek wheel I need help please
Lovely.. one could see the amazement when you turned up the nm 😎Compared to Invicta, is the Invicta worth the extra cost?
Tough one to be honest. And that’s very subjective. If you have the money, yes.
Can you add the throttle spring to la prima pedals?
I like the form factor of the simagic. This is large and short neck, so I think an extender is often needed to bring the screen closer as it is so large. But I think it's actually better than Simagic.
heads up to the people in the US , micro center has the TK edition on sale for 1199.00 and the Indy store has it for 999.00 bundle
I emailed my Michigan micro Center to see if they would match the Indy price and they said no. Lucky Indianapolisians, if that's what they call themselves
I didn't read the little safety booklet. I put my unit in the microwave and it broke. I am currently livid and have sent the product back to Asetek!!
Hahaha I actually thought that was hilarious 😂🙈 glad someone appreciated the joke 😂😂😂
Excellent video, really enjoyed it! What do you think of the La Prima pedals vs. the Fanatec CSL Elite V2 Pedals?
Great question. I prefer the brake on the CSL elite v2. But the la prima pedal angle adjustment is nice. Both brakes are good, but I think the fanatec brake is incredible.
I just wonder if I can buy this wheelbase with the GtNeo wheel from simagic ?
What does the side that bolts to the QR look like? You could cut the longer ones down and make a bunch of shorter ones and then tap the holes for mounting if they go all the way to the other side.
My local microcenter has this in stock maybe one day this can be my next upgrade maybe im currently pretty invested in Moza i really want the R12 and a f1 wheel like the KS and GS for the money the KS is very hard to beat and its got better buttons than the GS they are Mechanical like t HH w one on my CS v2 i think when a new GS comes out it will get the new buttons at least i hope
great problem to have! Keep us posted. you'll be happy with either. I did do a comparison of the r12 and the la prima: czcams.com/video/G9IPT9VNQ7k/video.html
I don’t like that the pedals lack so much in adjustments. For the money I want adjustments from soft to hard not just hard. Simagic has this and it’s much better. Can’t wait for your P1000 review.
There’s throw and angle adjustment. And you can change the elastomer to change the feel but I’m yet to do that.
How is the FFB detail compared to Simucube bases?!... Simucube is still the reference of wheelbases but i ear guys that already test Asestek wheelbases and saying that there's a little more feeling of what is the car doing from Asetek bases.
Hi Laurence will this fit on an
GT Omega Apex wheel stand ? Cheer James
I am just about to get into sim Rallying would you recommend getting this set up , what about a steering wheel also? thanks for the review Not sure if I want a quick release at the mo but definitely need a clutch pedal
Got the TK bundle, which is the la Prima base with the forte wheel and the 5 usb inputs on the back of the base, today for $450 because micro center screwed up the pricing on their site. Now I just need something to mount it to!
@@LaurenceDusoswamakes spending another $1000 on the rest of the rig a little easier to accept 😂
@@salkdhfpoahergpoahre1534They lowered it to $309.99 last friday. So if you got it for $450, you can ask them for additional $140 refund.
Saw your video comparing all the 12Nm range bases. Do you think that Alpha Mini really stacks up against this in terms of details and ffb?
Yep it is close but I do believe it doesn’t quite have the power of the la prima. They’re both great devices.
Great video I wonder how adaptable it is with a drivehub for use on consoles as I still occasionally race in GT7 too.
will you try the vrs pedals someday?
one more question, Does a stronger ff base give you more detail from a weaker even if you run low ff in the game ? Thx again :)
weak motors, for instance 5nm and less, will more easily clip at the peak force. when clipping, the force is higher than what the wheelbase can provide, you lose all kind of detail in the FFB in those small moments where you need it most, that's mostly why the extreme high end bases provide way more Nm than what you would ever use, to have that overhead and minimize clipping.
How often do you wish you had slightly more torque? Debating La Prima 12nm vs Forte 18nm so I can get slightly more if I need to.
I'm inclined to get La Prima and upgrade it using Forte upgrade package to turn it into a Forte wheelbase if and when they release that and if I need it.
honestly... I never long for more torque... It's like having a 400hp car and knowing there's a 600hp and an 800hp model... 400hp is plenty really...
hi Laurence, does this asetek set work with drive hub? have you tested with drivehub yet?
I don’t own a drivehub or even a console, so I cannot answer that question unfortunately.
Should I wait for new products to be released soon, or would you rather go with an 'older' product (yes, one year is not very old, but I prefer to always go with the latest if I make a rather big investment)?
In your opinion and your experience, there is a lot of difference regarding the quality and detail of the force feedback from SIMAGIC ALPHA 15nm to ASETEK Forte? Here in Brazil, there is an authorized seller SIMAGIC and does not have Asetek. If I import an ASETEK, it is almost 2x more expensive due to taxes.
Just buy Simagic. Check out my recent comparison video. If the price is 2x then you really should just buy the Simagic which is also really good.
@@LaurenceDusoswa ASETEK Force Feedback is much better than SIMAGIC?
Do you do all your settings through the software. Or through the games settings
As in the video?, sometimes it’s a combination of things. But usually I only use the wheelbase software and then just adjust the overall gain/force in game
Sadly i need atleast one round wheels with buttons , i dont want wheels with cable on it , simagic have it but 450€ , the moza cs for around 270€ it's enough for my need , i know the r12 it's a bit under simagic and asetek but the price/quality match more what i looking for and my need, ofc if you do only simracing asetek or simagic are the best choice !
Would the USB passthrough work with home brewed steering wheel button boxes?
yep! Exactly like connecting it directly to the PC. The DIY market for the Asetek range is HUGE!!!
Awesome! I'm convinced. Saving for a LaPrima bundle now. It'll be a birthday gift to myself.
It looked like you mounted the wheelbase incorrectly. The base is supposed to be attached to the front mount with four bolts offset from the corners to take the load and then the plastic front is bolted back on with the four corner bolts you used. By just using the 4 bolts through the plastic all the load is going to crack the plastic front.
I mounted and unmounted several times and tried different configurations too. I had no issues with cracking or creaking or any load concerns whatsoever.
I really want to get Asetek wheelbase, but I honestly can't stand the aesthetics of the La Prima wheel.. and I do not need pedals, so the bundle is useless to me. I hope they eventually offer a La Prima bundle with a round wheel with a more pleasing design than the formula wheel.. I will probably just go with Simagic Alpha and GTS wheel before Asetek comes out with another wheel offering..
You can buy the bundle without the pedals, but yes you need to buy the wheel. So if someone wants the La Prima base with the Forte wheel rim they will end up with 2 rims as far as I can see
@@LaurenceDusoswa yeah that's the issue for me, I do not want the La Prima wheel... Simagic just makes the most sense for me it seems, but I'll keep waiting while I run my TS-PC racer into the ground :D
Hi, i bought the La Prima today. I am very much looking forward to it arriving. Made even more exciting as firat DD. Just curious, as you said, it performs as a proper 12nm should, and many couldn't tell the difference between this and 17nm. Do you really think this feels close to that power?
The power is incredible. I can feel the difference in power with a higher powered base, but the way this delivers the power with the asetek rims is amazing.
@LaurenceDusoswa Great 👍 I got word it has been shipped today. Exciting times ahead. Whenever the upgrade to Forte base comes along, I'll be getting that upgrade and invicta wheel later on.
Is there a way to see the actual Nm applied by the base? For example Fanatec DDs have the small screen that gives real time telemetry of how much Nm are being applied by motor. Thanks
Nope. In fact I have never seen a company prove their Nm capabilities. If a brand’s own software gives a figure, it’s just something that someone coded. They usually calculate/guess Nm torque by the specs of the motor and the specs of the power supply. So I would take any figures with a grain of salt.
Looks like premium level sim stuff manufacturer. Even more premium than fanatec
I can not find the right wheal for me.. The La Prima or the Forte, its hard choose.
Buy the one your budget allows for. You get extra with the Forte but some people may not think it's worth the extra money. However, if you are the type of person who wonders 'what if' then you should try to get the Forte because it's even better than the La Prima.
Asetek Forte vs. Simagic alpha U - Would love you suggestion it's 100 Euro difference.
Never heard anyone says that £1400 is cheap lol
It’s all relative. You might think that a £3 cup of coffee is cheap. Others will think it’s a waste of money. For what you get here, it’s good value and relatively cheap
Soooo, you think that Moza R21 with KS wheel is not better offer than this? Similar price. Or at least R16 for even cheaper?
R16 is a great base. I think the ffb is more refined with the asetek stuff. But in a blind test I’m not sure I would be able to tell the difference. If I were you I would just buy the r16 or r21
@@LaurenceDusoswa R21 on the way allready :) Thanks for the info, keep up the good work.
How much is a clutch add on for this ? Never Mind the clutch is $300 that's as pretty high price yeah i think ill stick to moza upgrades CRP pedals are $500 if i can find open box around $400 my SRP pedals are doing just fine atm they are pretty good and solid metal really good build quality at that price and the clutch addon was $40 you can't beat that
Entry level me hole!
laurence, you talk of a 3rd party quick release. can you provide more details of the supplier please.
I call it that but it’s really just the asetek invicta quick release which has third party wheel support via USB built into the QR.
thanks , my qr finally arrived today and my concern of any slop in the fitting have alleviated. it is a quality product.
i feel like they Need to be inverted. Why aren't more pedals inverted anyway
Because it doesn't make a big difference and requires far more material. And adds to the complexity. you can invert a wheelbase easily because the rotation doesn't matter. but pedals need specific order.
I got the asetek tk edition for 800$ plus it comes with the forte wheel!

LaPrima is 4Nm/ms only, so potentially new Fanatec DD is faster (and stronger).
Let's wait for upgrade price for LaPrima>Forte and new bundles with wheel rims.
Wonder if Asetek will implement their own version of TrueForce (extra FF details based on telemetry or other sources)
I have to test the new Fanatec DD but there's only so much rotational acceleration you need, to be honest
@@LaurenceDusoswaPeople from SimCube2 Pro (6.7Nm/ms) say there is noticeable more detail in it, and even more in Invicta (9.4Nm/ms), so numbers do matter.
However, LaPrima is upgradable to 6.7 so this is great product + option I guess (unless DD/DD+ is initially better)
@@LaurenceDusoswa I heard someone with one of those crazy high wheels saying they tuned down their slew rate to 0.5Nm/ms to 3Nm/ms range
please lower your shutter speed on camera my eyes were dying, otherwise I agree that wheel is amazing
The La Prima base + Forte wheel is 1374€. The Moza R12 + KS wheel is 970€. I find it hard to justify 400€ more for this.
The asetek offers a superior force feedback experience. Also, the KS wheel is more comparable to the la prima wheel. Where the forte wheel is a lot more like the GS wheel. Hope that clarifies it a bit
@@LaurenceDusoswa thanks for replying. The KS wheel has clutch paddles, thats why I was comparing to the Forte Wheel. Even so, is the difference in ffb worth the price difference? I've heard people say they wouldn't be able to distinguish between the two in a blind test.
Laurence --- Asetek La Prima ($750) or ... Simagic Alpha 15nm ($750) ??? 😁
I was also looking at Alpha and La Prima, but the Alpha base is $1090 here in the UK. Whereas La Prima is $870. Plus can be upgraded in the future from 12nm to 18nm with psu and motherboard upgrade. As with their whole ecosystem. Also seems to be using a mige motor. Anyway having them the same price is a tough call, but seen as La Prima can go up to 18nm which is 3nm more than Alpha and has better software. So, I'd probably still go with Asetek even at same price. Being cheaper here made it a very easy decision to go with the La Prima
The alpha will give more detail with the extra power. But ultimately buy the one with the better wheel choices for you.
@@LaurenceDusoswa Thanks for your response! I had already ordered the Alpha (w/ the FX Pro wheel i always wanted), but this further validates my purchase -- Thanks!!! My favorite feature/selling point of the Asetek is the QR w/ USB connectivity. But for my purposes I really only need 2 wheels: a Formula/GT-style wheel, and a full-size round rim. And Simagic's options satisfied those needs.
@@eagletrippin Also remember the La Prima will be able to be upgraded to 18nm in the future. The Alpha will always be 15nm
Feels like they are putting all their eggs in one basket with sim racing, with the amount of these direct drives they have given out to influencers. The last 5 years have been tough for them (maybe self inflicted?) and it will be interesting to see where they are in another 5. I cant see them becoming a dominant brand.
Compared to MOZA and Fanatec, they've not actually engaged with that many influencers/reviewers. I don't know how the last 5 years have been tough for them but if people aren't taking them seriously in sim racing, then I'm not sure why that could be. Asetek is currently the single biggest threat to the Simucube brand as far as I can see. Nothing else is taken as seriously as Asetek.
@@LaurenceDusoswa they are better known for CPU cooling than sim racing. Using patents and litigation. Unfortunately this has impacted their financials, which is worrying as both a customer and investor. One of their major patents expires in 2025, this is why I think they are throwing so much weight behind these products now.

Man at 1400 dollars this should have clutch paddles or a clutch pedal one that sucks yeah that's a deal breaker
@@LaurenceDusoswa I have no doubt the quality of the product is on point but the pedal design is awful as far as ergonomics and customisability / Tuning is concerned, two pedal set on a fixed base so no way to adjust lateral travel, the feeling is set at hard with little to no adjustment out of the box, pedal faces are cheese graters that do not accommodate sock users, Asetek answer is to offer upgrades at very high prices to fix these bad design elements, and then you have the option to upgrade with the clutch pedal which again is on a fixed base that bolts on, I think they really do need to go back and redesign the pedals and address the issues.
