You didn't mention ROLAND THE HEADLESS THOMPSON GUNNER. "They still can see his headless body stalkin' through the night, in the muzzle flash of Roland's Thompson Gun..."

As a Cadet at West Point long ago, I fortunately took the opportunity to steep myself in the Revolutionary War history of the area, including Sleepy Hollow. At this time of year, I always think back to the four Autumns I spent in the Hudson Valley.

I can just imagine someone in the 1700s (or whenever) riding a horse, and pulling their jacket over their head to troll people.

7:00 Maybe unnecessary but 😅 I often see some confusion about the term Jäger/Hunter. To put this in a historical context, Hunter or Huntsman was a professions back in the day in german territories and many other european countries, and kinda still to this day. So we don't talk about Billy and Bobby who would go out hunting once or twice a year. Forrests in feudal europe were (and still are) not public spaces, but owned by the state (in the sense of nobility or church). So huntsman were directly employed by a king, duke, baron etc. and tasked with many different resposibilities in their local area. Taking care of wildlife as game wardens, looking out for predators like wolves and bears but also boars and also poachers (the biggest risk), check on woodcutters and other workes and maybe assist and direct their lords on hunting trips. They often had an elevated status (on a low level) and often the only subjects in a region that were allowed to own arms as part of their profession.
So if a local lord would rise a regiment of Jägers, I would often draw from a pool (especially in the beginnings) of people that were already loyal to him and already his trustet servants. They were familiar with outdoor life, used to handle rifles and other weapons and used to stalk game and pochers.
There are records of german/hessian soldiers from that time that show on the one hand often show a lack of understanding the cause of the american rebellion because americans in their eyes already had rights unheard off in germany, like owing firearms and hunting game. On teh other hand there were also soliders that were intrigued by the idea, because they could work on their own and apply all their knowledge and skills for themself without a lord breathing down their neck.

Excellent put together video. Sleepy Hollow, Headless Horseman, yeah now that's what Halloween is all about. I really like the way you put it all together with the possible uniform that the rider could of wore. The Headless Horseman, a tail that will be told for another few hundred years to come.

There could be one argument made here, at least in interpretation wise regarding the uniform and horseman.
When considering death, the green uniform with crimson facing could be considered a darkened color. Like that of the fall or autumn. Basically a corruption of its physical or material form.
Factoring this I would speculate the uniform being turning from green to a more darkened gray actually. When thinking green and red make gray. Symbolically this could be the blood corrupting the uniform.
As far as the crimson facing I venture to say either more of a darkened maroon symbolizing autumn, or a dark black as in earth, soil, etc.
So what we would have is a gray coat, with either maroon, or black where green and crimson prevailed.

anyone have that epiphany as a kid watching the Disney version of Sleepy Hollow that Ichabod is a bit of a jerkass who exploits the whole town for free food?
In the original story, it's 50/50 whether or not it was Brom Bones in disguise
in the disney version, I am 100% convinced he ran into a real ghost

I've been wondering about what uniform the Headless Horseman might wear. I never thought much of the Jaggers because I always thought them as riflemen and skirmishers, but if they were on horse then they were definitely a good choice for the Horseman. There were other Hessian units within New York and one of which comes to mind was the Von Trumbach (if i got the spelling right) Regiment which fought at the Battle of Fort Montgomery. They wore a blue and white uniform, of course there were also Jagger units at that battle as well.
