ASMR Tarot Playing Cards (soft spoken)

- On the last tarot video, many of you commented that you weren't familiar with tarot as a card game. Frankly, neither am I, but it's pretty interesting to look at some of the historical cards. Out of the two decks we're looking at today, the first one is the Visconti-Sforza from the 15th century, one of the oldest tarot decks to still exist. The other one is a Piatnik "Industrie & Glück" deck which became popular in the Habsburg monarchy and which is still sold today, incl. its 19th century imagery.
(I was extra tired recording this, pardon any half-fleshed out explanations here...)
The book is by Robert Sedlaczek and Wolfgang Mayer, called "Die Kulturgeschichte des Tarockspiels". Afaik there is no English translation, but the authors recommend two books by Michael Dummet, "The Game of Tarot" and together with John McLeod "A History of Games Played with the Tarot Pack".

Steven Wright's joke about playing Poker with Tarot cards has new meaning now. Never realised it had similar origins to the Ouija board, insomuch as it started as a game and morphed into something else entirely.
This is a really fascinating topic. I was intrigued by the taroch game when you made the first tarot video. I’m so glad you delved into the subject in depth. Another excellent video, as always. Thank you to you and your partner.
Lots of interesting findings with these decks. Especially how Tarock became so popular in the Hapsburg Empire to seemingly unify it under the banner of the Tarocchania Empire - amazing. The dual imagery on the smaller Tarock cards provides more clearer meanings when you pull the card in either its upright or reversed position. Creating a more mainstream usage for Tarock.
Really like the clearly depicted three legged table on the Magician card of the Tarrochi deck. With its 3 legs representing creativity + 4 sides (or 4 elements) representing stability to create the magic of number 7 (creative stability). Or 3 X 4 to equal 12 (numerologically reduced to 3 to again represent creativity at the higher octave). With 12 framing so much of how we lived and still live (12 months in a year, 12 disciples of the Christ, 12 astrological houses, 12 hours on a clock and so on). Strange the numerology was not clearly depicted on the Tarocchi cards when they have great numerology like this in the imagery.
The Strength card of the Tarocchi deck very clearly represents the changed, more European attitude, toward taming the inner animal instincts when compared with this card in the much earlier Egyptian orientated tarot.
Seems Tarock and Tarrochi were big cultural influences for the earlier days of the Germanic/Austro-Hungarians - fascinating.

23:20 "industrious"/industriousness also exists in english, but I'm not sure if the meaning is the same, or similar enough to translate it like that
Aah of course, that fits perfectly! In German, the old meaning has been lost and so somehow the English word just didn't occur to me. Thank you for mentioning it!

Your last tarot video was so good I had to watch this one as soon as it was announced. Is it fair to say you have been watching some of the unintentional ASMR online poker videos? I noticed you sometimes use similar hand movements.
I haven't seen those videos of unintentional asmr poker, I would so love Melange to run through Poker rules as I've been wanting to relearn.

The artwork on the different card sets is great. Really fun to look at while listening. Never knew playing cards were taxed. Makes sense I suppose. Not as if gambling wasn't as populaer then as now. 🎴
