Thank you so much for watching! Here is the email for help with your shirt order fanhelp@spri.ng We have seen many people are now getting their orders! 🎉 Make sure you tag us in the pictures of you in them! Give this video a thumbs up and a share if you enjoyed it! Love you guys❤
Hi Matt and Kristen, glad you're better Kristen and good for you both for getting your new dinghy boat motor. You're so easy to look at sweetie. Love your back-and-forth banter. Always love looking at the pretty water. Appreciate much your episodes and keep sailing.
Ya they have lost a lot of business switching. It’s been taking 12 weeks to get your orders. So 🤷🏻♀️
If you don't FIX that outboard, turn in your man card.
First off,, been watching your channel a fewcyears. Really impressed with what you have learned on your own. Just a little advice.. when docking to a seawall like you did, always put the line from back of the boat on first.
Buff out the boat, baby boy!
Cannot wait to meet you two rascals in our travels and have a drink or three together. 😄😁😘 These beautiful locations are the biggest payoff after the boat is fixed.
Cheers to Ya from SVL crew,
Helena ❤
FENDERS, PEOPLE! I love when the music gets intense when you guys start to dock the boat at a concrete bulkhead. A little practice on the lines (and throttle) will keep you from slamming the wall. When possible, approach from downwind so the wind provides breaking force instead of ramming force.. Jump off with both bow and stern lines in hand... Use the stern line as a break over the horn the first cleet (No wraps) and (((slow))) her down easy instead of stopping her fast.. If you have enough stern line you can catch the bow with a foot while slowly breaking on the stern line.. Slow down... And always, always fender up when going into places you can run into... All that paint work you guys did just to let her get dinged.. Tsk tsk... Thanks for sharing your adventure... JB.
Need to put a pair of fenders on Kristen too so she doesn't sprain a hip! 🤣🤣🤣
Well said,
--There is no earthly excuse why that boat was not stopped as the crew hopped ashore, two spring lines in hand. Position and angle of the boat are then easily adjusted.. If necessary, a lone crewman can fend off by putting foot to rail at the waist. Bow breast, hanging on the lifeline, can then be secured and the stern line tossed by the steersman.
--Sometimes things that could interfere with fenders project from the wall.
Two small tips which hopefully will make cruising less stressful. First, it is always advisable to start your outboard before you cast off. New or not outboards are by nature finicky. Second, as you approach a side tie, angle the bow slightly towards it, have your mate mid-ship with a spring line, as you get closer, spin your wheel to move the bow to port (opposite if your approaching port-side to), that will cause the stern to move to starboard and at the same time close the distance your mate needs to cross to get on the dock. Once on the dock your mate needs to use more line than she did in the video. It was the shortness of the line which caused the bow to jerk to starboard, and the hull hit the dock. With more line out, your mate can slowly pull it in, (after taking a turn on the cleat) bringing the boat gently to the pier. Enjoying the channel and re-visiting areas where I spent 15 years. Thanks for the memories.
This person gets it exactly right.
Yep, Kristen should not have tied that line yet. You guys are doing fine though, I enjoy your videos and appreciate you sharing the learning experiences!
Just gonna add the same comment about the midship line, good technique, turn wheel outward and just put in gear, boat will snug right up to the dock.
... and always use your fenders.
Also, reverse is your friend... it can move the bow away from the wall/dock and move the stern towards it. AND TAKE IT VERY SLOW.
Advice you didn’t ask for: It’s totally normal to go very slowly in marinas - it’s never thought of as holding anyone up - captains really appreciate when other boats are maneuvering super slow. Hope that’s helpful. Awesome video!
yea but going slow isn't manly . What about our ego ?
You can go too slow, if you lose control in the wind. Practice and fenders, always fenders... Hope your hip is better Kirsten.
@Mark Govier fenders help but more importantly is understanding the reaction of what you do. If you cleat off in the middle of the boat with forward momentum, your bow is going to crash into the dock. In that particular situation she should have looped the front of the cleat and matt should have put it in reverse
@Mark Govier always, ALWAYS Fenders. That whining about not enough time.. fffs you should have pumped those up before you even laid eyes on that marina. Preparation is a sailors best friend and #1 tool to reduce the risk of an accident. When your boat is your home and your job, you should take care of it.

Matt, I notice you furl your sails, then start your engine. You may consider starting the engine first. This allows your engine to warm up a bit before you put it under load. Also you are sure it’s running well before it’s needed. Just a suggestion.
As a Diesel motor guy, his is absolutely correct in fact very important! Also give motor time to cool as the turbo needs to cool after throddeling down…. I’m not one to tell anyone how to operate anything…. The diesel motor will last FOREVER if properly cared for
@@brandonboand ha ha. Unless it's my diesel Jaguar. Dear god its a pain.
Also, with your foresail still deployed, if your engine doesn’t start or dies, you’ll still have propulsion to get out of a tricky situation, like hitting other boats, rocks, etc. once she’s running smoothly and steadily, then furl the foresail. Ounce of prevention stuff… also ALWAYS set your fenders (I’ve a simple rule: if it can leave a mark, avoid it).
You guys are so fun to watch. I just love your videos. Makes me wish I was 45 years younger. Wishing you two the best in what you are looking for in life. Looks like you found it.
At least you're both safe, that's the main thing...👍👍
Been watching you all for years and I still can't get enough! :) Keep being amazing humans! Oh, and stop taking bonehead risks and put your fenders out next time :)
As my favorite CZcams couple!!!! Tell all the viewers to comment and share as well as like to boost you too the TOP where you belong!!!!!!! Love following the both of you on your great adventures ❤
being a stoic..... become comfortable with being uncomfortable.... you two are awesome!
I've been following many sailing channels religiously for the past 7 years and I just wanted to tell you that yours has become my favorite by far. It just feels so much more genuine and honest than all the other channels. And you guys are extra likable to boot! I hope that I'll get to watch you cross the Atlantic one day and maybe see you in familiar places here in France or around Europe!
I’m loving the banter between you guys
I like that you show the good bad and ugly helps us learn from your mistakes like someone said if you ain’t making mistakes you ain’t doing anything worth while. Love the show.
I have always been amazed that that Merc started on the first pull living in the harsh environment.
15:20 "am I cool or am I not cool, I can't hardly tell." Seems that the hammock gave you the answer. :) Hoping that Kristen's hip is better soon! Thanks for sharing.
Hey folks, get the largest jar o peanut butter and a box of saltines for back up vittles.
Hi Matt. Having docked in marinas thousands of times, here’s some suggestions. Before docking always use fenders with a roving fender at hand, check reverse is working before you dock, check wind and current at the dock, wherever possible have the stronger of the wind or current on your bow, at the dock, go as slow as you can while maintaining control, use reverse to slow you down if wind or current are pushing you too fast down the dock, use the prop walk in reverse to help pull the stern into dock when you get alongside. Most sailboats have a right hand prop so the stern of the boat will pull to port when you engage reverse. A port hand tie is usually easier with a right hand prop. Have the crew get a short tie on the centre or breast line. Once that line is on, use the shifter to get or keep the boat parallel to the dock. Sounds like a lot but easy to do with a little practice. Cheers and keep living the dream.
If you drive you crash. Bound to happen, don’t sweat it. Really enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing your adventures!
man, concrete walls have no give. That hurt to watch. At least you learned a lesson from it. Happy it wasn't any worse.
Always engaging content. Thank you taking us along
🌠🌺
Anybody else get the feeling that whatever praise poor ol' Matty gets comes hard earned? He don't get the credit as he deserves...but I'll tell ya this; He gets ALL the credit for the success of this relationship....a little biting of the tonue and lots of tongue in cheek. Well done, Sir. That isn't easy...
Matt you've worked so hard on the boat why would you not use bumpers against a sea wall. Also ket Kristen do her thing she looks even better with her moo moo. She's seems to be relaxing her attire mire on this journey
Yes! Man, I was yelling at the screen. Fenders. Always put your fenders out when entering a marina. Accidents happen, current happens, wind happens. Being a responsible boat owner isn't hard. Fenders!!! Don't make the insurance worse than it already is for the rest of us.
I love, love, love your dress. It is a classic, beautiful & tasteful design. Matt should praise you for looking great! 🤗
It's great to see the captain messing up again, creating a little fix up work for later. Keep up the good attitude and the great videos.
Love your videos, the docking is a little scary. I'd highly recommend you contact Captain Mike of the Virgin Islands Sailing Academy and have him give you some docking instructions. It will help you with line control and how to snug your boat into a slip or headwall. You should never have to leap from your boat when docking. Stay safe!
Let me reiterate one line here: “You should NEVER HAVE TO LEAP FROM YOUR BOAT when docking.” One miscalculation and your done for months.
Good Morning, you two. I love how the music gets "scary" when you are approaching the boat docks. Nice video producing.
who ever picks the background music does a great job!
Oh shoot was hoping to meet Kristen’s mom and pop. Finders out!!! Is the command. Wish you guys would bring back the celebration beer click. That was always a special moment in your videos.
Sailing against the clock, I like that. I usually look at the sunny side. You both are sailers and you probably were born sailers and once in another life were together as sea creatures also kicking ass. Sailing against the clock I’m imagining is like backing up a trailer its not that easy and it takes time to get the hang of it. You guys are able to live a life on a schedule that works for you. Your thoughtful, mindful, your respectful and your relationship is inspiring. Basically you guys are cool, plus I respect that you guys aren’t part of the snooty crews whom leave no room for fun and learning. Sailing against the clock maybe saves your boat and maybe you both in the future and the scratch is but a scratch. Another lesson in the vastness of lessons brining us to who we are. You both did great, plus I’m impressed, your driving your boat like people drive their cars zooming in getting free parking and that’s where I am. Haven’t watched further. Sailing against the clock is a way to strength. Sometimes life throws us curve balls and we’re unable to hit them. But we got three chances then again all game to hit that ball out of the park. As you both are doing again and again for all us watching. So beautiful just the wind in the sails. Sheets or lines or ropes or thread and its okay just sail just sculpt just paint or snorkel and as you guys are showing, respect is the ticket to paradise. Happy sailing
Disappointed we did not get to meet mom and dad. Right brand, wrong motor. Many comments already on boat handling, they are spot on. Fenders, always put out your fenders. Sometimes you you make me cringe but you always seem to make it work. You are the best! ❤
Another awesome video. Thank You for sharing.
Did Matt say “Roll Tide”?😆 Cute dress Kristen!❤️
Thank you for the video. Kristen I'm glad you got to see your parents. Stay well and happy. ⛵
A tip for maneuvering in tight spaces.
Have a large black bucket with 5mtrs of chain attached to the handle.
When motoring forward or reversing into a dock drop the bucket in the water over the bow roller with approximately 4 mtrs of chain.
Make sure the end of the chain is well secured before you do this !!!!
Give yourself plenty of time before you start your maneuver.
Then you can slowly motor ahead or astern without the bow being blown away.
Takes a little practice but we'll worth it in the end.
Takes a lot of stress out of maneuvering in tight spaces.
Oh remember to retrieve the bucket.
SV Feeling groovy.
Welp, that docking maneuver lived up to the 'Ugly' part of S.G.B.U.
Live, love, and learn! Cheers!
Lmao, Matt is damaging the boat so he can fix it again., He's missing the repairs projects. wished we could of met your family Kristen. Glad you got to see them. Salute guys. Thanks for sharing with us,.
With the boat going forward, when Kristen jumped onto the shore, I naturally thought she'd keep walking forward and tie up one or two cleets up the way rather than behind where the front of the boat had passed already. That's what turned the boat into the dock. Great video as always, thanks from every viewer.
Babe - when coming alongside ALWAYS put ther stern warp on first and then the bow. This will allow the ship to come alongside whereas as you found out putting on the bow warp first pulls in the bow while the stern shoots out and you bang hard! So bring your bow warp back outside the pulpit/guard rails to the cockpit, drop the stern warp over a bollard as you step ashore, quick couple of turns and holding the bow warp walk up and put a turn on a bollard with that. Of course - put out fenders first to save paint. But you guys are not alone, I've been in many harbours and the yachtsmen simply seem to know nothing about boat handling in a mooring situation. An chors suit them but manouvring and mooring defeats them. Love your viseos, you are a great couple and Kirsten is lovely. God Bless you.
I get the get in there & get stuff done mentality.
But prepping dock lines & fenders is boating 101. Right?
Still, no biggie. A Lil sanding & a dash of paint & alls well.
Watch you guys every Sunday morning. Coffee & GBU. Stay safe.
@4:20 That's why sailing is also called _going nowhere slowly at great expense._ 😉
Kristian love the island dress, Matt will love it also when he figures out the available access to you. Fenders always!!! To keep docking easy, stern line in hand while standing at the shrouds (the shrouds are a hand hold) and when possible, step over lifelines to get ready to step onto the dock-Hopefully the bow is pointed into the wind and/or current-Boat should be moving as slow as possible to still have an effect from the rudder-Deckhand (Kristian) steps off boat (Capt. Matt should have the boat in neutral or a little reverse or whatever is needed) and just takes a half wrap on a cleat (if the boat is moving to fast and needs to stop now, then a full wrap) and walks forward and takes a half wrap on the boats mid-cleat and then takes a half wrap on a dock cleat- Boat can't go forward, stern can't move away from the dock, bow can't move away from the dock. The line needs to be quite long to accomplish this. You should have at least three dock lines the length of the boat that are used as spring lines. (one of them is an extra) I know this is a long post but worth the time to read and implement. More confusing but simpler is what the wife and I did. Long line, one end tied to boat stern cleat-line led forward and threaded through boat mid-cleat. Make a coil from the line between the stern tie and up to the mid-cleat (actually a big loop), using quite a bit of the line, holding that coil in her hand that wasn't holding on to a shroud and the bitter end in the hand that is holding onto the shroud she would step off the boat, drop the coil so it would catch a dock cleat and walk up to the next forward dock cleat an take a half wrap and haul in on the line and cleat tie it and accomplish the same thing. Even just tying a stern line to the dock and having the boat in forward gear at idle will keep the boat at the dock. NEVER LEAVE THE HELM UNTIL THE BOAT IS TIED TO THE DOCK!
3 letters Matt, CRC.. Stop them frozen bolts... Use it, be happy.. Gonna have to start calling you Crash boat Mattie😂😂 Love you guys.. Enjoy the ride.
Must be a sign that you two should be pumping out more content!!!!!! The gods love your work❤
Yamaha is a good choice. I have a 150 on my bass boat. Love it. One tip you might consider is to pull the fuel line off after use and run the gas out of the carburetor. Helps to keep it from gumming up. I do it every time and don’t have carburetor problems. Great video hope Kristen’s hip is better. Sometimes my sciatic nerve gets pinched and I go to the chiropractor helps a lot might think about it. Great video editing. Love the channel.
My father n I always did that too on our 6hp two stroke, lots of truth in that, pull the fuel line n run it out. Only takes a minute.
Glad to hear your headed up Kristen
Your ok Mattie if you're not making mistakes your not doing anything worthwhile
Love you guys y'all are my favorite sailing channel and will be y'all are sailing the way I would if I was sailing ❤
Much love and respect from Tulia Texas out on the farm
Doesn’t matter what you wear. You two are beautiful people both inside and out.
Hey my friends, the first thing that I did, in 19755, after putting my 6-year-old, 1st big, used sailboat, a Cal 29, sloop, and the next year my new Challenger 35, Ketch in the water on Lake Ontario, NY & Ontario, Canada was, to motor out of the marina out of sight of land and practice every single thing that I thought I would have to do anytime anywhere on the lake or going into or out of a slip or tieing up at a marina dock or wall. Me, my wife, and 7 & 11-year-old boys just kept practicing every time we left the dock. We all took turns at the helm as captains. Our boat got exceptionally well handled after that. We were very organized. Try it you both might like it. Your confidence level will shoot out through the roof. You have done and are now doing great. Your boat looks beautiful. Enjoy.
Always great to see you on Sunday mornings. A peaceful time.
I hope that sprain is healing well.
No matter how many times I listened I couldn't tell what you yelled to that cat but even funnier is what made you think they could possibly ever hear you.🎉😅❤
ps holy crumb Matt that was a high risk jump!!
pss that helm hammock is rad!
I think he yelled “Roll Tide”. I was looking for an Alabama flag, but didn’t see one.
@@markgetz I thought he said"slow down"
I guess my phone is jacking with me what happened to tube tops ,y'all make me smile, laugh, y'all cheer me up thanks
You guys are a joy to watch!!! Happy trails.
You guys are awesome!!! Keep sharing your wonderful adventures :-)
Great videos thanks for sharing your adventures with me. Glad you're feeling better.
Good morning nerds!
You're rockin' that muumuu Kristen. Mattie is just jealous that he doesn't look so fetchin' in his comfy clothes. You do you girl!
It gives the boat character. Lets everyone know "Back off...I'll crash into you"!
Sending good vibes your way! You guys rock...
You already learned about walls and fenders: have too many is better than none… but more unsolicited advice: perhaps a 10-15’ tie off your stern cleat first; it would tend to keep your boat closer to the wall while a breast and or bow line is made. Using a short line off the beam with momentum is a recipe for bow damage. Learning can be a twat. And for y’all to show your foibles publicly is all soul and courage. I enjoy your rawness so so so much. Please never change! Good, Bad. and Ugly !!!
Good job guys!, glad it all worked out. No biggie on the little “ding”. Things can be a lot worse than that. Keep enjoying life you lucky “Sea Dogs”!
@9:40 DUDES!!!!! you need to hit marinas more often....even to fill up on diesel or just say hi and leave. You need to practice docking. That was the easiest docking situation anyone could wish for! Zero wind on the water, calm conditions and a freaking super long wall. ugh!
Matt
If not mistaken "Roll Tide!"
Love ❤️ the video!

I think Kristen looks great in a muumuu! Actually, one of those who looks good in anything (even a burlap potato sack most likely). It's the personality that shines through.
Kristen, I was convinced that I had broken my hip. I finally went to the ER and my hip wasn't the problem. I had a herniated disc and it was pressing on the sciatic nerve. I had to have surgery but that doesn't mean you would. Don't wait, get it checked out. I'm old now and wish I had gotten treatment.
Great video..keep em coming! Thank you again from Berea Kentucky ✌️😎
Here in the south we call those things coverups. Perfect fashion for going into restaurants after a day on the beach.
Matty, it's a boat...you have to get over it. It is going to take some bumps and scratches just like professional fighting. Boats can be fixed and sometimes people can't. As for people wanting fenders..., I understand but, our first mate has fallen recently and been on her back with her legs up in the air. We can't expect her to be up and about the vessle like a spring chicken bouncing around with fenders...Also Mr. Matt almost did not make the jump to the dock and risked throwing his hip out. Kristen's new moo-moo has likely done wonders to lessen boating accidents, and it does look very nice. Kristen should also be very careful she does not have a hairline fracture in the pelvis, and keep a good eye about swelling and bruising, and go for an x-ray if it get's any worse. The new Yammy is nice and quiet. Very nice to hear you got to see your mum and dad Kristen. When is the 1 hour special coming? And hoping Kristen will have a nice bunny outfit for Easter...Thank -you- for 1/2 hour of relaxation on another Sunday morning and it's -10 here so anything is better than outside right now. Best wishes to both of you and try to be safe and slow and easy wins the race. Jonny
You guys remind me of Karolann and I we are just the older version. We have so much fun with just our own company.
Awesome video guys!!! Gotta love a new kicker!!! Glad your hip is getting better.
You’ve got a great engine that will last 40 years for you, a little extra 2stroke oil and run it dry when you’re not going to use it for a while because the petrol goes off in the carb, love watching ye two here in West Cork Ireland 🇮🇪 Happy sailing ❤️⛵️
That hammock location is awesome!
You should have take a single line “wrap” from the stern to slow the forward momentum before cleating. Always use fenders around concrete for Pete’s same.
Consider prepping that new motor for salt. Coat all the capscrews that secure the lower unit with form a gasket or similar. While you are at it do the same for the H2O pump housing fasteners, thermostat housing fasteners, exhaust plate etc. Also a good grease of the splines on the vertical shaft. I service those little buggers for a living.
My wife loves wearing Muumuus. She has one in each of my favorite colors, Clear and Transparent. The clear one has little red roses on it and the Transparent one has oranges on it. LOL
Fantastic video Matt and Kristen thoroughly enjoyed it
Another super video, love the new outboard engine. Great choice!
Enjoy and stay safe and happy :)
some nice sailing shots there guys
Always a great start to my Sundays. Thank you for sharing this adventure. My heart dropped when the boat touched the sea wall. 😮
Love you guys! Love your sensibility. Love how you guys love each other. I never could understand why boats don’t have built in bumpers. 😂😂😂😂
Love watching you!!!! I was on STT / St John last week. Matt’s skinny legs review was spot on. Yet can’t help myself, always stop to get swag.
My beautiful wife, watching from heaven loves this ❤
Don’t beat yourself up for mistakes. Continue to laugh it off. Have a great time! Good engine choice. I like the big cavitation plate on the motor.
Outstanding. Have a great time there and enjoy your time doing gbu things. Such a beautiful spot in the vi!
I love the paddleboard as fender idea. You should have done a do over.
We love watching your videos! Kristen I'd be the one hurt also! Glad you are better!
Matt, she lost a hip time to trade it in for a newer model! 😅 You guys are awesome🤘
I love watching you two!
"Probably not the safest way for a captain to ride..."
Ride, captain ride, upon your mystery ship...
I think I mentioned this before in an earlier video, but your attitude is GOOD. Plan ahead the best you can, learn as you go and the rest will fall into place. :)
Wow what a lot of adventures this week! Have fun with new outboard engine! Glad your feeling better! Got to see Mom and Dad, looked like nice sailing to be I and to Skinny legs goats !
I just stumbled across your channel and have been binge watching for the last 3 days… you two are awesome! I wish you guys all the best on your continued journey! God bess! 😊
That dress was not a muumuu!! It’s a sundress and you looked beautiful Kristen. It’s airy, comfortable and stylish, yes! You could wear a paper bag and still look gorgeous and feminine. Don’t listen to him. I hope your hip is all better. Stay happy and safe! ✌️😘
You guys are awesome!! Love the humor you guys have as well! keep you guys safe and healthy! and enjoy..
I just got back from a dive trip to the Exumas, did some island hoping, made me think of you guys... Looks like you're getting on just fine.. Good to see.. Oh, Christen, You make the muumuu work just as good as the teeny keeny .. Thank you guys...
I appreciate it how they keep it real.
I've had my Yamaha now12 years doesn't miss a Beat. Happy trails love you both.
Hip hip hooray! … Kristen!😀
Enjoy your time. So, be happy.
Thank you for the videos
Keep it coming
Great video, I love being "right there" with ya'll as things happen GBU. Thanks, Matt for the analysis of the new outboard. I found out the hard way that the new 4-stroke outboards are very expensive to tune up or service. Kristen, glad your hip is feeling better. Keep it coming!
I do enjoy you two. Stay safe
