*YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE IS OFF*
There is a scene where Coraline and her mother are in the car. Coraline ask her mom "what do you think's in the other apartment" and her mom replies "Not a family of Jone's imposters. That's for sure"
*WHICH MEANS THERE IS ANOTHER APARTMENT. 4 APARTMENTS ALL TOGETHER. BUT IF YOU REMEMBER THE SCENE WHERE CORALINE FINDS MR. BOBINSKY'S MAIL. THERE IS ONLY THREE MAILBOXES.*
So what is up with that other apartment? And in the book she mentioned something about there being another apartment.
In both the book and the movie the other apartment is only mentioned once. It is a small but important detail.
I also noticed the nightlight in Caroline's room. I have mentioned this before. It is for making wishes. The Night-light holds your wishes until they come true. The first time the mouse enters her room the night light turns on and Spins. So I think somehow Coraline wished for a better world. And somehow through magic she got her "better world".

When the grandmothers family was there it there would have been heaps of plants. It would have been there “fairy garden”. But now pink palace has plant life surrounding it because it followed there fairy owners.

all of the Beldame’s victims are around the age of 10-12
the reason Wybie’s grandmother allowed the Jones’ to move in is because Wybie was 11 years old at the time and so was Coraline, so instead of taking ANY possible risks of Wybie’s life, she basically sacrificed Coraline in place of Wybie just in case there was any possible chance that the Beldame could get him.

Was watching the movie just recently and I realized, Wybie and the other mother gave coraline magic healing dirt! Coraline was holding the poison oak stick with both hands yet the movie only broadcast her having a rash on her left hand and the other mother gives her dirt that heals it. But what about the other hand? Well when coraline introduces herself to wybie as coraline Jones he shakes her right and gets it all muddy and she proceeds to wipe it on her jacket! Perhaps were these both examples of magical fairy mud?!!!!

Okay, saw the whole thing through and had a bizarre thought: what if Mrs. Lovat's twin wasn't really her twin--but the changeling designated to take her place? There's an obscure branch of mythology that believed that fairies would shift to human form to trade place with humans, at least for a little while. Now, there is a picture of the two together--but what if they're not twins? What if, while the two were playing, the Beldam got the *real* little girl and the changeling grew up *as* the little girl? Not only would that give more credence to Wybie being part fairy, but would also explain why Mrs. Lovat is getting desperate to get the Beldam--as a fairy, she can't go home (fairy world or land) until the human girl is released, because they can't exist in fairyland at the same time. Just a thought.

As long as Coraline doesn't question her surroundings or try to leave, she's perfectly safe, because if she dies the Beldam has to hunt for another child, and I think it's fair to say that children are hard to come by for her at this point in her story. So, she'll keep Coraline alive as long as possible so that she can keep feeding off her. But yes, I think you're right; eventually Coraline will question things or try to leave as she grows up--and if the Beldam can't scare her back into frightened obedience she probably will kill her then--but not until then, if that makes sense.

Me and a fellow fan were talking on Coraline Amino and we came up with a little theory that you might want to use (we both agreed we would tell you about it) at some point in the book or comic it's mentioned that Coraline felt like she was shoving her hand into a mouth when going into the portal and came up with the theory that The beldam is not only controlling the portal but is the portal. I really like this theory! I'm not sure if this has been said, but from what I remember, Wybie is the only one from the Pink Palace world that seems to control himself. The other father and the others seem more robotic and there for show, yet Wybie has more control over his actions and influence over Coraline (like when he pulls her out of the mirror, stitches his mouth shut, etc). That always seemed weird to me, but this theory makes those make sense. Also, it fits with how guilty Wybie looks, like he knows he's leading her into the other fairies trap.

Not Coraline related but ive got a Peter pan theory that I haven't heard a CZcamsr lean on yet, here it is
PETER PAN-----> Pan is a greek god that created the pan-flute (that peter pan plays) Pan had 12 children that were 1/2 goat (lost boys dress up as animals - there's only 6 but its disney) He was accompanied my nymphs (mermaids aka water nymphs) Pan's birthplace is Arcadia witch is referred to as imaginary idyllic paradise and immortalized (neverland, you never grow up) There was a small revolutionary war (captain hook represents Panagiotis Kephalas a commander in the war) that near caused ghost towns of villages (indian tribes)

On the changeling thing: changeling is the name for the replaced child and/or thier replacement. I did a bit of research, and found that fear dearg (I might be missing an accent or have a slight spelling error) is the proper name of the fairy that does the exchanging. Just thought I'd add that to help with any further theorizing research, since the more specific name may get you better search results.

Proofs I found of Beldam's foresight:
When Coraline forcibly goes to sleep, the other mother doesn't seem to have even stepped into the room. She is in the living room:
    -with lights off
    -and the door completely unguarded
-also a bug is ready to block the door.
Which could only mean that either Beldam is an intense gambler or knew exactly what Coraline would do.
I don't think the Beldam would have this ambush guard seemingly on a door to limbo zone.... While apparently having left the door to reality off guard.
Beldam wasn't supervising Coraline either so she could have come up with a plan or something before coming out of the room.
Either Beldam knows Coraline too well or has foresight. The latter seems more plausible. After all the doll might have only observed Coraline for a few days at most.

This is a cool concept. When you mentioned the deleted scene with the spider I actually have a theory on that scene. Remember when you said you think Mrs. Jones got possessed by the Beldam early on? I think the spider was a representation of the Beldam and when Mrs. Jones drank the coffee with the spider in it she got possessed. It’s not obvious but it’s just a theory. A few things worth noting from this humble mythology nerd.
Most of my myth knowledge revolves around the Greek, Celtic, Norse, and Japanese with some Slavic and other mythologies mixed in. Even then I don't know everything(even though I like to think my grasp on the Fae is high) so take what I say with a pinch of salt and feel free to do your own research as well.
Anyway.....in Celtic lore dark fae or the Unseelie were highly feared beings and known for hating humans vehemently. You didn't have to offend one to get killed, they'd kill for you over anything. There's also very dangerous Faeries that weren't aligned to either the Unseelie(dark( or Seelie(light) side. These were creatures like the Pooka, Kelpie, Sluágh, Baóbhan Sith, Banshees, etc. All kinds of Fae creatures could kill you if you weren't careful and could even kidnap family members.
The Pooka and Changling myth being notable examples. The Pooka on a good day would simply cause chaos on farms and such. Breaking fences and scaring livestock among other mischievous behavior. However bad days for this creature were dreaded badly, as the Pooka take a few pages out of the Skinwalker myth in a way. They can mimic the voices of family members to trick members of a household into coming outside and could even shapeshift as well(However, they did have a favorite form, that being an all black horse with golden eyes). Once outside the tricked person would never be seen again. Pookas were highly feared for that reason alone. Though it is said you could have a conversation with one, it just depended on whether or not you had the right setup. www.yourirish.com has the best info on the ritual I know of if you want to know about this ritual. I will say this though, it is said if the Pooka comes from the gate post to the right of the home (essentially coming from the right sitting to your right) it is a good Pooka, a more mischievous or evil Pooka will prefer the left side and shall come from such a direction. The left side of the home was known to be rocky.
The Changling was another Fae that while not inherently dangerous, it was a feared creature all the same. Changelings were the children of Fae who were swapped with the child of a human. The reasons for this will vary depending on the story, sometimes it is because the Fae wants a beautiful child and her own child is ugly, so she swaps the children. Sometimes the reason isn't even specified at all. Either way it was a lesson to Mothers to make sure to watch their children closely, as you never know what may happen to your child. It could also have been a form of coping for grieving Mothers as well. In some stories the changling child will have been made to look like the child they were swapped with, only to fade and become frail with the years as they pass by. Eventually the changeling will pass away from illness while the human child will be with the changling's Fae parents and grow up among them as their surrogate child or as a slave to the Faeries.
One final thing worth noting, is the legend of Tír Na Nóg. Tír Na Nóg was the realm of the Faeries and humans who went there would stop aging entirely. However, time in Tír Na Nóg went by much more slowly than in the human world. If a human living in Tír Na Nóg were to return to the human world, they'd likely disintegrate into a pile of ash or become a corpse due to their rapid aging finally catching up to them in the human world.

Great theory! Also I thought of a plot hole for your other coraline theories maybe you could make a video to explain it: so the plot hole that if you remember the scene in the other world right before coraline goes back in the house for the beldam to give her the button eyes we see the other wybie being sad and the beldam smiles at him essentially telling him to pretend to be happy. So if you are saying that the residents of the other world are puppets for the beldam why would other wybie be sad. We can't even explain it as part of the act since coraline wasn't around at that moment so there would be no reason to act. This is it. Again if you could make a theory to fix this hole it would be pretty cool. :)

      @TheFangirlWatches  Před 6 lety +12

Hmm, maybe I didn't clarify it enough, but in my own head, I'm saying puppet and thinking more like when the Beldam isn't present. Like, she can control herself or someone else, but not both at the same time. So she has to get irritated with the Other Father for saying too much because she's standing there and can't "poses" him, as it were. Same with Other Wybie looking sad, Coraline's standing behind them so she can't just take him over (which she probably had been doing at the show, hence no sadness or remorse displayed then. Hope that makes some sense! lol

It could be part of her elaborate plan, making wybie pretend to be sad and , the fact that she knew that there was only one key and made per puppete explicitly mention that multiple times is a bit suspicious and that she opened the door at the end as if she didn't know coraline was going to make a run for it. If she knew enough to know coraline was moving in she know she would also fail to trap her the traditional way she did 3 times before she had to make the illusion stronger because there is one big issue with coraline ....she isn't actually unhappy with her family no she doesn't like how things are but it's very clear they were not that way in Michigan and they just moved there , she was feeling the effects of the situation and she knew this and as such she knew her plan had to be much stronger

    Hey The Fangirl
I know what is the meaning of this movie's ending ( i have evidences)
    1. The other mother does everything Coraline wants. But she didn't give Coralin's favorite gloves to her so at the final the no-button eyes mother gave it to Coraline.
2.The cat can do some magicaly things like dissapear in the other world and he said he isn't changes himself in the real world and other world but at the ending scene he dissapeared secretly.
    3. The other mother makes Coraline's parents doll so they can go to the other world ( I guest ) and trapped there forever.
    4. Coraline's mother go out to by some foods and when Coraline back to her real world, the foods are rotten, it means her mother must goes out for a very long time and she doesn't use her car to finds or helps her husband.
    5. Angust the dog, has sicked but suprisingly stronger at the end. It seems every troubles that Coraline has in the real world become no more at the end, become what she wants, like the other world
------->She trapped in the other other world.

Glad I’m not the only one. It can still work if
      A) Wybie and his grandma are good fairies that while using Coarline never intends on letting her die
      Or
      B) starts off willing to carry out the plan but by time starts to fall for Coarline and grow more remorseful and enventully frees her and her parents and maybe even escape from the wrath of the beldam and maybe his grandmother

The bedlam is making the doll because whenever the intro to the movie starts she’s humming and whenever she’s in the kitchen before Coraline proposes the game it’s the same tune being hummed.

A very interesting theory as always, as the ghost/fairy child was one of the more interesting aspects of the book. So it made no sense that they would simply cut this out of the film, so this could be a possible explanation. However, i do wonder if Wybourn is a fairy why the cat would appear to be so close to him, unless not even Wybourn knows he is a fairy.
P.S. Thanks for the shout out, it's greatly appreciated.

I watched your what is the Beldam videos and a lot of what you pointed out reminded me of a scooby doo movie I used to watch where they go to New Orleans and the two Cajun women who live on a island in the bayous (who appear as very normal people at first) are under some curse or spell where they turn into cat like monsters and have to consume the life forces of other people in order to live. And by doing so they survived for hundreds of years, consuming the lives of pirates, settlers, confederate soldiers and tourists all while practicing voodoo(including using dolls). This was the result of selling their souls to a higher deity and I wonder if the Beldam did something similar leading her to become what she is now. There’s a lot of similarities in the circumstances, but it’s just a thought.

But this is what I think:
The Lovat family are fairies but Mrs. Lovat can see vision of the future
Maybe she saw Coraline and seeing her defeat the Beldam
And that’s why Wybie gives the doll to Coraline
Maybe she already knew her sister was gonna get taken by the Beldam and tried to tell her parents but they didn’t believe her
But that’s just what I think

  • @tsuveras6670
    @tsuveras6670 Před 4 lety

I just wanted to say that I left a comment in your Coraline part 4 theory video that I think could also really explain Wybie's whole connection in this as actually being the child of the other mother and needing the same source of energy as her, but because he is half-human, he is able to be in the real world to help lure children. It would also make sense because it wouldn't matter what his grandmother tells him because he is in on it needing the same source of energy and plotting with the other mother through the black cat that I believe is his father and consort of the other mother. I go into this more about how I think this happened in my original comment.
After watching more of your videos, I've come up with more thoughts to support this idea, but I have a really long comment over in the part four video I posted just a bit earlier because that video gave me a eureka moment. You've talked about the idea of Coraline being trapped in the Pink Palace Limbo since the first time she enters the other world. If this is true and the Wybie at the end of the movie is actually him, it would make sense if he is her son that he is able to move back and forth through the dimensions. The reason he could always be around the pink palace is because that is where his mother lives.
I think this could also work with the doll coming into his possession. At no point do we see the grandmother explicitly say that she hid the doll, we only know that that is what he says. For all we know, he was able to give the doll to the other mother and get it back, leaving it in his possession to leave on Coraline's porch.
I think if his grandmother knew anything about it, I think she would be freaking out, because at this point she would believe that both her sister and son were already claimed by the other mother. I also think that it's possible that Wybie may have been able to convince his grandmother to let another child move in because if she really did have the doll and hid it, thinking he doesn't know where it is, when it disappears, its really her only proof. Of course, the other mother would know where the doll is because she can see through the eyes and could communicate this to Wybie. The whole thing could also be written off as the grandmother being crazy and senile. With her old age, money could be more difficult to come by and if a new tenet with a child moves in, and she has already decided that perhaps she made it all up as a defense mechanism from something worse happening to her sister and son, she would perhaps let them move in. Wybie could also help convince her of false memories of something different happening to her sister because he too needs the energy to live off of.
She could also be left with the impression that Wybie may be taken next if she doesn't offer up a new child to the other mother. Wybie could easily tell her that he is seeing things or that someone seems to be trying to get him to go to the pink palace. This could instill a deep fear of losing the only family that she has left.
Another thought I had about this was the fact that Wybie's puppet in the other world couldn't talk. All of the other puppets besides Wybie, the dogs, and the mice can talk. I also really subscribe to your idea of there being multiple portals throughout the town that allows the other mother to create copies of them, therefore allowing her to create other people to make the world appear more normal to Coraline and future victims. As seen in the movie, Wybie is in the real world in the beginning and if going by the theory of the other mother only being able to create people who have been inside her world, how would she be able to create Wybie? Anyways, the reason I think he can't talk is that she can't make a full copy of him because as his real self, he can come and go as he pleases, similar to the cat. He also seems to know that the well is a portal that leads to the first room of the other world when he throws in the key, so I think this intimate knowledge is something that he definitely knows.
Anyway, these are just some added ramblings I've gathered to go along with my first comment. I hope you are able to check it out along with this one because I only thought of it after watching your videos and even if you don't agree, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this whole concept.
I also think that the other mother tricked the mother and father into the other world very early on. I think that Wybie showing up and distracting coraline could have been a way from keeping her from going home sooner rather than later while the other mother enacted whatever plan to begin her process of either getting her parents to cross over or somehow making puppets of them in the house. Since the house has the portal connected to it, who's to say that she cannot also simply control whatever goes on in the house as well.

The beldam is the grandma. They are all fairies. That's why he was supposed to deliver the doll then later said he needed it back to throw the suspicious vibes off of grams. Plus it explains how Wybie hasn't been taken. His gram is the beldam. I think that anyway.

  • @magusluporum3421
    @magusluporum3421 Před 6 lety

Just something for the beldam controlling other fairies, in Welsh mythology (which Neil Gaiman references in other books) the king of the fae - Arawn is a tall figure with pales grey-white skin, black eyes, powers over death and souls, powers to controll (to some degree) his otherworld realm (called Annwn), power to shape-shift self and others with illusions and enchantments, and finally is strongly associated with the night. The Beldam is a tall figure with white 'skin' and large black eyes, she can entrap souls and controll her own otherworld realm, she can shape-shift herself and enchant and shape-shift other objects, and it is constantly night in the otherworld. The major difference is that Arawn is male whilst the Beldam is female, but this is a non-issue when dealing with a shape-shifter. This turned into a way bigger comment than I had expected. I love your videos, and keep up the good work.
