When I was a kid (In the 70's) I collected Matchbox and Hotwheels.

BOTH. Matchbox did the retro and utility styles best, and hot wheels did the sport and futuristic styles best. If you were a race car kid you had em all.

Looks like some of the track connections are unsettling the cars as they pass over. It could give cars that have a more narrow body style an advantage. You might try tweaking the side rails or using some tape to smooth things out a bit and run the last heat over.

To be 100% competitive, all cars should be exactly the same weight. A heavier car will go faster. Also, graphite applied to the axles would help, however, the dust would mark up the wheels. (Pinewood derby stuff)
