I'm a girl, living alone, in a foreign land. And this video saved my life. I was attacked by 3 men a few weeks ago when I was walking home from uni late at night. I don't know how to do silat, never learnt how, but at that time, all I could remember was Iko saying "Never go to the one in the center because I will get a lot of hits. There's always a gap between the three, go for it." Luckily, I did see the gap (probably because the two of them were highly intoxicated) and I took a dash. That took them by surprise, and gave me a good 30 seconds or so headstart. Enough for me to run and screamed my lungs out for help. Still.... The longest 30 seconds of my life.
I hope Iko Uwais becomes extremely fluent, and at ease, speaking English. Because he has the opportunity to be THE martial arts star of this generation. He has the skill, youth, and charisma to go far. Here's hoping, because The Raid films are AMAZING....
Pencak Silat rocks! In the U.S. I think the Pencak Silat Serak of the Badui people is most well known through Paul DeThouars' family and William Reeders, so seeing a different school such as the Tiga Berantai school is a real treat! Iko Uwais is amazing, but too bad the brother with the long hair was not allowed to demonstrate fighting as well. Great knowledge, great speed, great power and a great art. Don Draeger said Pencak Silat is the most dangerous art in the world.
Thats the essence and philosopy of Silat right there in the beginning. He was given the opportunity to punch the guy first, but instead asked to be punched by 4 guys instead. It is the teachings that Silat was meant to be used as a self defense first instead of an offensive aggressive move. A master of the art will always teach the idea to avoid the fight FIRST rather than be the initiator even if its just a simple request for a demonstration. That separates between the Masters of the art from the practitioners of the art. Mad respects for Mad Dog to show his true character.
That's exactly the first thought that came to my mind. Actually, the second - because the first thought was "some IDIOT just asked Yayan to punch him. OhDearGodPleaseNo." I studied Pencak Silat Bukti Negara with guru Paul De Thours when I was living in Los Angeles, and I *know* what a full on Silat punch can do. The dude would have been dead, or in the hospital for a _long_ time if Yayan had obliged him. Instead, he followed the essence of Silat - completely naturally, the moment he understood what he was being asked. Reminded me of guru Paul so much... a real man, a true gentleman all the way to the heart.
I started teaching Thai boxing and let my students hit me to gauge their balance as a starting off point so I know what problems they need addressing first. Noticed he kept saying harder and higher. Not because he’s super tough but he’s trying to get a feel for what they already know.
One Silat punch isn’t killing anyone especially if thrown by an expert that has good control. You dweebs try to make everything mythical and magical. You need a reality check.

N all the silat practicioner is very humble because thats how our teacher teach us to be to stay humble no matter what, dont start a fight, defend yourself as your life depends on it yet dont over do it at the point doesnt necessary(injured them at the point they cant recover)..thats why all the silat practicioner is always smiling even when they r being serious

iko is very knowledgeable and you can see silat is very technical and tactical. it's not just blind physical. most fight is of course technical and tactical. you need to think fast to access the situation and finish your opponent as fast as possible unlike in the movies or competitions. :p
It's ok. You aren't an Idiot. If you're interested try to learn silat as much as possible and better yet find yourself a proper and certified silat guru. One beautiful aspect in silat is that you can develop your own moves. Silat is to survive in any physical conflict and it isn't for showoff.

what Iko Uwais has teached is one of advanced skill in silat, i.e. how to face 3 opponents at one time. basic skill just learning about simple technique (jurus). intermediate skill learned about how to use a weapon. advanced skill learned about self defence, at all situations. the body of a pesilat (someone who has mastered silat) moves automatically to the most advantage position for self defense and attack, making the opponents in the difficult position to attack, or making the situation to be to 1 vs 1 fighting (if faced by more than one opponents).

intinya silat itu dari indonesia yg mana nenek moyang kita sudah mewarisi keturunan nya utk mempelajari silat..kita juga lah seni silat ini sebaik2 mungkin ..di dlm film the raid itu kan hanya sebuah film utk mengangkat derajat yg selama ini belom pernah di degar teliga asing..skrng gmn kan yg patut bangga negeri kita sendiri..silat juga skrng banyak org luar negeri minat utk mempelajarinya guys..selama ini kita mendengar bela diri kungfu yg terdengar tapi masih banyak seni belaa diri dari indonesia blom mereka pelajari dan mendengarnya..semoga silat indonesia bermanfaat di mata dunia..yg pasti org islam yg menemukan silat di indonesia..nenek moyang kita..kita bangga jadi anak pemuda indonesia guys..terus bekarya demi nama baik negeri ini..saya pemuda indonesia generasi lahir tahun 94 siap membawa nama baik indonesia dan slalu mendukung kreatif anak2 bangsa utk memajuka negeri ini.dari bidang teknologi mao pun dlm bidang bela diri dll.tanks guys sudah nyimak..

How do you translate Qi Gong to Indonesian? I'm sure most of the western world is familiar with the idea of chi/ki, thanks to anime.
We translate is as "tenaga dalam" or "inner strength".

yang jelas membunuh bukan merupakan keharusan bagi seorang pendekar silat, lagi pula seorang ahli silat dapat dikatakan seorang ahli silat apabila dapat mengalahkan lawan tanpa membunuh tanpa meneteskan darah juga tanpa menggoreskan luka sedikitpun itulah yang diajarkan guru juga pendahulu pendahulu kami
