    Just found your page tonight and watched the entire build on the tahoe... I'm currently pulling the 6.2 from my escalade since it lost a bearing. Plan on building a 416" stroker and eventually putting a blower on it. Love the channel, easy to watch. You gotta a new subscriber! look forward to more burnouts!

    Junkyard 4l80e, shift kit, and nice converter. I found and pulled a gm rebuilt 4l80e in the junk yard for $140. Threw in a shift kit and brand new circle d 258mm 3200 billet single disc I got for About $800 on black Friday. Would never think of using a 4l60e again.

    @CraigACTIONJackson Před 6 lety +1

    Sorry to hear about the Tahoe, but you are correct a 4L60e can handle a lot of power when built right. Make sure your buddy uses the Sonnax Smart Tech Input drum, Smart shell, and their wide 2-4 band. I prefer BW high energy clutches instead of Alto Greens and never use their Alto reds for the 3-4 clutches, they do not last. Because they are to hard and do not soak up trans fluid to well. The Smart Tech drum replaces the 3-4 snap ring with a billet upper/lower apply ring with 15 bolts that allows the use of 8 factory full thickness clutches and 7 factory full thickness steels, which means even apply and no coning of the clutches and steels. The people that keep saying to install a 4l80e or a 6L80e and that a 4L60e can't handle the power are the people that don't know how to build them or heard horror stories from someone else that strengthen their belief that 4L60e's are junk. Please don't take this the wrong way many things can cause any tranny to come apart, not just the 4L60e. I have a turbo 91 Camaro with a built 700r4 that has the above mentioned parts and many more supporting parts/mods with a Circle D triple disc converter making over 900 RWHP and it weights 3860 with my fat butt in it on race day. IT CAN BE DONE!

      Boosted Denali read his pinned post. Why would misinformation cause you to question RPM?

    • @giutatgeorge2010
      @giutatgeorge2010 Před 6 lety +1

      Hey Nick , I say that because Jeff's representing Rpm when he makes these vids...The level of experience and knowledge required to do this line of work at a professional level is no joke...The last thing I want to do is trash talk , its not who I am and wasn't my intention , but I just could not get over the statements he made regarding installing a 4l80 . At the level this shop is at Jeff should not be this misinformed about the old 4l60 to 4l80 conversation...SO I just couldn't help but post what I felt at the time ...this is like the ultimate rookie mistake and I know about rookie mistakes .To not swap it out with a 4l80 especially for the money it takes to beef up a 4l60 that might last him a few months at best...Guarantee you its cheaper to build an 80e with just better clutches and sprags and transgo hd2 kit...The converter is about the same as what he'll need to spend on the 4l60 ( minimum $600)... I myself and i'm sure countless others that have made the change to the 4l80 will tell him the same... The swap was stupid easy , the rebuild should be cheaper than the 4l60e because you don't need billet shafts and super beefy sunshells ETC... A well rebuilt 80e should cost them a nice chunk less than a well built or rebuilt 4l60 does ...Ask me how I know... its way cheaper LOL... Between the weight of his truck and the 24's alone puts an enormous strain on a 60 or 65 , they were never intended for an SUV . Gm realized a long time ago that a 60 is no good in a truck , that's how the 65 was born...A slightly stronger (50 H.P.) worth of 5 gear planets instead of 4 gear , and the shafts are shot peened and been hardened to a higher level than its weaker counterpart 60e...All Trucks and Suv's should of came with a 4l80 fro the factory...Anyway got of track there....Sloppy Mech Matt Happel Rambletron reply for ya... I apologize to Rpm and Jeff for questioning their competency to build race cars , Its obvious that the build awesome cars , I'm sure by far , way better than I ever could....

    Ok ok ok people. When I said 10k for a 4l80 swap I was a bit high in price. I have only ever done 4 L 80 swaps in Camaros and CTS-V. And by the time you buy a Built 4 L 80 brand new with a new converter you were looking at $4,000 to $5,000. I am aware that I can get something out of a junkyard and make it work, but that's just not my style. Also didn't know that I could change a few shafts on the transfer case and it would work. Either way I have faith in the 4 L 60. It will live forever and ever.
    But thank you everyone for the new information, this might be something I do in the future

I'd rather not Drop 8 Grand and still have problems. Chevy warrantied me a new trans last year due to the fact the dealership service tech left a return line hose loose and it lost all fluid and burned the clutches also killed the pump. so my trans is fairly new.

    The 4L60 has a bad name because of people that are to cheap to have them built properly and also from builders not knowing what they are doing. The 4L60 can handle a large amount of power and do so in a heavy vehicle if built right. My builder has 60E's in 8&9 second B-bodies with no problems. But not every transmission builder can do that.

    • @Carportracingboyz
      @Carportracingboyz Před 6 lety

      10k to swap?? Na. Couple thousand very possible. You can rebuild transfer case with different input and outputs and change yours on driveshaft you have

    • @Chance.R
      @Chance.R Před 6 lety +5

      A well built 4l60 will die too. You have to think about the extra weight. The Tahoe weighs over a full ton more than a Colorado or the Buick. A 4l80 with a Trans-go kit will last longer than a well built 60e in a heavy truck with 500 rwhp and it can be done easily for the same money as building the 60e.
      - EDIT -
      $600 - 4l80e 100k mile working good bolt-in from Copart (could be more/less in your area)
      $500 - Red Alto/Kolene steel rebuild kit (optional)
      $599 - Circle D swap converter (+$200 for billet - optional)
      $125 - Transgo HD2
      $89 - Nelson 4l80 harness (eBay has them for less than half)
      $20 - eBay bolt-in front shaft from a 2500
      $100 - 32 spline transfer case input
      $75 - Merchant pump rub kit (optional)
      $200 - rear shaft
      $0 - modify crossmember
      $0 - segment swap in EFILive/HP Tuners
      So you have $1733 or $2508 with all options

    • @spyderlyf3
      @spyderlyf3 Před 6 lety +1

      Look at the build sheet on a built 80e..there isn't much difference from a stock one because they are stout from the factory. Dual feed it and it will Trump a built 60e all day especially in a heavy truck. U don't need an all billet 80e at his power level.

    • @MrChristianbowman82
      @MrChristianbowman82 Před 6 lety

      Your colorado is a lighter vehicle also though. Hell people cant keep 4l70e in there trailblazer ss so its a common swap because a 4l80e is stronger than a built 4l60e

    • @james10739
      @james10739 Před 2 lety

      I still don't get his math it's just the input on the transfer case that's different and ya you need new drive shafts made but the wiring it just repining a couple and adding 1 wire I believe and you may have to do some stuff with the trans cooler lines and regardless you should probably be adding a trans cooler but if you were going to go new or freshly rebuilt because new mostly doesn't exist you can get one for like $2500 but nobody in the cheap LS world is doing that they are going to the junkyard and pulling one for between like $200 and $600 and installing a like a $120 HD2 kit and whatever converter you are going to want which you could use the stock one or spend upto $1000 or more but something in the middle would probably be fine and then you need that input shaft for the transfer case and some drive shafts made and probably be in under what that 60 build will cost if you are talking 5 gear planetary and new input and output shafts
