I can imagine the speed thing you couldn't know but there are always fantastic engaged fans to point it out. Also for me to learn. Thanks for this serious reaction like a real voice teacher. To often its faked. Yours definatley not. I liked it. That minor thing at the end.. we can all learn and do better the next time. Its such a moment...in the song. Ah, Marco and Floor!😢

@@SingingwithLauren Yeah, some people suggest the first thing that search engine provides them... and it is not always right. Not your fault, sadly there are many uploads at wrong speed or missing the ending, and obviously you cannot know that if you hear it the first time.
FYI. From the sound of the video you are watching it would appear that you have a version that is played back at a slower speed. Since the low speed the pitch is also off a bit. Here is the link for the correct speed, czcams.com/video/zz_7OCCQlXs/video.html

Yes this is the slow version. If you know the song it completely scrambles your brain.
I don’t think your reaction and the video were in sync. You commented on the notes Floor was hitting during “hang me high” before she sang that line. It also looked like you cut off her slide at the end, but I think you heard the whole thing as you described the D6 before she hit it in the video. Very nice reaction though. 😀
Your not only educating singers but also listeners like me. This makes me even love and appreciate the performances more, even when I have heard the songs multiple times already. please keep doing this on Nightwish and Floor.

I think the most surprising is how deep she can sing. There are not many sopranos who can also sing so deeply and probably not many who can growl :-)
if no one has mentioned it, Floor stands 6 feet, 1.5 inches tall in bare feet, and she's wearing 5 inch heels here.....

Glad to see you back reacting to Nightwish. Really enjoy your analysis. Having no musical education beyond elementary school so I truly appreciate knowledgeable people sharing their insight and expertise. Highly recommend you react to some of the videos' Floor has released on her channel of her solo show from September. My favorite song she sings is Sweet Curse which was a song from her second band ReVamp. czcams.com/video/lU8i2i3v8MQ/video.html. For more Nightwish recommend Song of Myself from Waken or Dead Boy's Poem from Buenos Aries. There are several Nightwish songs where Marko takes the lead. My favorites are While Your Lips are Still Red live from Wembley and The Islander live from Tampere.
I think you got a slowed down version of this video. People tried some encoding tricks on some of their Wacken videos to make try to make them HD, problem is it slowed the video down a few percent. Hard to tell on a first listen, but noticeable when you have listened to it at the correct speed.

Here are a few recommendations that are definitely worth a look. Tarot, Tides live
and Wintersun, Time live rehersal at Sonic pump studio.
You have yet to discover the extent of Marko's vocal talents...here's some good stuff: Nightwish The Islander live at Tampere 2016, High Hopes (End of an Era live 2005), Tides by Tarot, Marko's first band (this performance will impress you), Stones and Voice of My Father, singles from his latest solo project Pyre of the Black Heart (also recorded in Finnish). And several recent collaborations, all top notch!
Marko delivers a strong vocal flexibility.

Someone must have sent her the wrong version. Because it sounds like someone has posted a video that sounds about 1.25 seconds to slow. The music is definitely to slow. It doesn’t even sound watchable/Listenable.

Oh my god Metal concerts are the safest concerts to go to many more deaths at other types of shows actually, metal heads are super nice people stats even show that all research come back they are crazy friendly and open mined usually not 100% but 11 percent mental health rate only.
long story but going to court aginst my dad and his evidence is I listen to metal therfore I am crazy lol, not even good evidence period but shut him down entirely.

I did a quick WORD search of all your uploads (298 to date) -- and found 3 other Nightwish reviews: "I Want My Tears Back", "Storytime", and "Ghost Love Score", but no Floor solo reviews. I feel that this particular song, "Romanticide", is best for some of us (like me) who are the "headbanger" type (Black Sabbath, Metallica, etc.), but is not the best for someone who wants to illustrate Floor's vocal talents. Perhaps I'm wrong, but vocally it seems simple compared to some of her other Nightwish performances. I feel the best song to illustrate Floor's vocal range and technique would be "The Poet and the Pendulum", at czcams.com/video/iEzZRMthhXU/video.html (with lyrics). She combines powerful belting with some very delicate high head voice sections, in Part 3: "The Pacific", and Part 5: "Mother and Father (it is a song in 5 parts). Generally, however, don't feel afraid to review Floor's solo efforts. She is currently releasing clips from her recent Amsterdam solo concert; some of those are not bad, although many of us still prefer the Beste Zangers performances (see, e.g., the comments by Barry Jamison in this post. I would second his recommendations. Also Robin Braamhorst, below. Thanks Robin!). Hope you are happy and doing well in California. Good luck with that next move!
I would recommend doing a Re-reaction to this on on a video that is at the proper speed, whatever version your using is playing at the wrong speed.
Love this song but it seems a little slow. Highest note she hits near the end is D6 and it sounded lower. As far as subtitles are concerned it says ode of lies and should be OD (overdose) of lies.
I'd love to hear you react to "Ever Dream" from the same concert (czcams.com/video/YwGSAFarHRg/video.html) because Marco does some great voice work there as well as his harmonizing w/Floor.
I once heard a music teacher declare in a reaction that he felt Marco could hold his own with opera ("....& opera singers aren't play bass at the same time...." said this reactor) so it'd be fun to hear what you think.

hey lauren welcome to cali, if you want to hear marko wail checkout the poet and the pendulem live at wembly, a 5 part masterpiece, a few things about cali, never swim in the ocean there are real life jaws out there, besides the beaches and yosemite we have the most amazing deserts, there's joshua tree national park, the mojave preserve, and god's masterpiece deathvalley national park, our parks are 30 bucks to get in but worth it the nightsky at DVNP is amazing especially when the cellestrial and terrestrial lights hit, seeing that nightsky totally resets your whole mindset its a spiritual and emotional experince, being in deathvalley and our desert's is better than weed for depression, hopefully the coachella open air festival gets nightwish to play and i believe they are playing the wiltern theatre in LA soon its a smaller theatre on wilshire and western blvds

There are many singers in this genre with very long careers, still performing at a very high level, Rob Halford and Eric Adams past 70. Bruce Dickinson in his mid 60's. Hansi Kürsch and Michael Kiske in their 50's. Many more, metalheads don't throw away their idols lightly.

Your correct. The whole thing sounds about 1.25 seconds to slow. For some reason there’s a trend on CZcams with people posting songs that have been slowed down.
@@shspurs1342 Because people take 25 fps source video and rip it at 24 fps (I guess because it is the default in their software?) It is rather annoying, especially for music because it changes it a lot.

High F not F#. I Listened to the correct speed mentioned in another post and it is definitely an F. This slower version results in a flat F so it’s hard to hear the actual pitch.
Hi Lauren. Love your analysis. For another stunning vocalist, may I recommend listening to the band Epica with Simone Simons. Epica is also a symphonic metal band, but with a harder edge. I have not yet heard the new bass player with Nightwish, but I believe he is a very competent person on the instrument. There is just no way he is not very good bass player or Tuomas would not have picked him up. The thing is that he does not sing. Troy I guess now is the secondary/male vocalist, but I don't think he can be a good replacement for Marco. Marco was a lead vocalist before joining Nightwish. So I'm a bit worried about them songs where Marco has/had real vocal parts... Especially the growling parts. Troy is great and that he can play like 301 different instruments if needed at the same time?!? But I'm worried about a few songs here... Like Romanticide for example. How will it sound with Troy?
Troy is quite competent singer, but he is not Marco. So those songs will sound different and probably not quite right.
The note you played at the beginning didn't match what she was singing. What she was singing was a half step lower.
New bassist is very good but won't do singing in NW, but of course Marko will be missed

I think you have too big of a delay between the video and your reaction to it irl. You make comments about things like 1 second before it actually happens in the video. I understand that reactors often put in a delay to not seem to be "slow" at reacting to things (because of the human brain "lag", etc), but I think you should turn down your delay at least 1-1.5 seconds, preferably 2-3, because when you're "predicting" things that will happen like this it can at first seem like you've already seen the video. Just a thought and input from a random internet stranger you don't have to listen to :)

She is not an Opera-Singer.
Floor herself has even said on many occasions. That she has no clue how to do opera style vocals. This women is supposed to be a vocal coach, I.E an expert. When floor does the higher notes. She’s obviously doing a form of classical singing.

You're not getting the best experience here, this song is at least 7% slower than it should be and downpitched as a result. I noticed within _two_ seconds of playback that the guitar sound was way off, and then on Floors first "ooh" it was confirmed. This sounds horrendous. Please do yourself a favor and find a version that has the correct pitch.
Advise: don't pause on the voice, when she sings.
a lot of singers in THIS genre use wrong techniques? That is a bit prejugists and als funny, because rock and metal bands keep playing and singing live for decades. Many singers in THIS genre are well trained vocalists.
Sorry, more impressive would be at the right speed. Not your fault though.
That 3-5% more speed on tempo to "normal", as it has performed, seems so crusial to not getting the feel this version is lagging and dragging.
