I am Danish. I was born 1940. Mum says I started the war. I live in Australia. I love this song because it shows love of country. Germany had a bad period but they are lovely people.
WWII, 1940 to 1945 Denmark was invaded. Not as bloody as with Poland. I belive the fights were about 12 hours and when Germany reached the town of Haderslev , the politicians of Denmark surrendered. Haderslev is 46 Kilometers from the German border. @@tomjaap2933
comme alsacien, j'adore l'Allemagne. Notre langue maternelle, c'est l'allemand. Vive Bismarck! Vivie l'Allemagne, vive l'Alsace. Vive la victoire 1871.
Gotta criticize the combination of the Wehrmacht picture with the German map of 1871. Since it´s being shown to "Die Wacht am Rhein" the army should be changed to Deutsches Heer. By that army, map and song would be fitting (even though the song is a few decades older than the empire).
In the movie "Casablanca" this is sung by German officers at Rick's bar when Victor Laslo gets the band to play the Marseilles and everybody starts singing.
Wehrmacht soldiers up on a imperial german state silouette? Nah man. There also are some typos like Watch instead of Wacht or Rhine instead of Rhein. The music version is very very good though and I'm happy to see this version again!
@@TheGuyFrom7Hubble Sorry, but he his not. You can clearly see (on the uniform) the Reichsadler on the right side (in the picture left side) of the breast with a swastica below it. I don't know why there would be an officer with a Pickelhaube though. Maybe it was for ceremonial purposes?
@@TheGuyFrom7Hubble There is no Pickelhaube! There instead is an officer with a visor cap that didnt even exist until the Wehrmacht, the soldiers are wearing M35 Steel helmets and they literally have the Reichsadler on their chest. Also the Kragenspiegel didnt exist like this in the Kaiserreich. The weapons also are Kar98k instead of Gewehr 98.
Looks like some details are unclear. This is an early Wehrmacht photograph. The steel helmets are indeed WW1 standart (most likely M16 or M17) and the rifle is a K98, not a K98k. Until the start of WW2 the former Reichswehr equipment was still in use.

This patriotic Song is Not!!! against a particular country ( Although France is the neighbour), it's just a call to stay alert at the Rhine river , nothing more. France isn't even mentioned! Just compare this text to patriotic songs of Poland or Russia, then you see the difference. Nevertheless, I like the song, although it is banned like many other songs by todays politicians, which to my understanding are nothing else than sycophants to our Allies.
Please, don't mix German and English. The original name is "Die Wacht am Rhein", translated in English as "The Watch on the Rhine", but definitely NOT "Die Wacht am Rhine".
the difference is that the occupied states by france west of the rhine were never french. the people spoke german. In todays polish territory (Im talking about silesia, pommerania and stuff) the people were actually german. Also today they are very much polish so no claiming polish territory

The Wehrmacht was at least 2.5 times more glorious than all other German armies combined and the successors of the Reichsheer. Because of that.
