    amping up for my future SOBO thru hike :) all good informaton! I have struggled with resupply tactics but think that yours is the best, so far.

      Glad it was helpful! If you want to get a sneak peek on what you'll see along your hike, make sure to check out all of my SoBo PCT hiking videos from this year. You can find them all in this playlist, that is if you haven't seen them all already: czcams.com/video/G4gcwiYwhgQ/video.html

    Something I tried on a recent backpacking trip was using a foodsaver vacuum seal machine for my meals. It helps maximize space, keeps meals fresh and you can pour boiling water right in to the bag! Putting the bag with the dehydrated meal in the food koozie and then pouring the water inside works perfect! Just wrote how much water was needed on the date part of the bag. Something I wish I had done on my first trip where I cooked everything in my pot and had to clean it after each meal. 🫤

      A small but useful tip is to cut a tiny triangle shape on the edge of each side towards the top to make it easier to tear open. Teeth worked the first time I tried it but will for sure make the small triangles going forward. It was all super convenient!

    I bet that resupply service by Backcountry Foodie is going to be SO handy! If I ever get my feet onto the CA section of the PCT, I will absolutely be checking that out. I hope you have the most amazing adventure on your thru hike this year! So excited to hear all about it!

    Props for specifically mentioning strength training for the purpose of injury prevention. Yeah, get swole, but bulletproof them knees and ankles (AND LOW BACK!) more importantly.

      100% agree!! I’m all about injury prevention this time around. The one with the least amount of injuries makes it to Mexico!

    another great video. The video Id love to see is at the very end of the journey where you compare sobo vs nobo? Things like bubble vs no bubble? Getting to hiking towns after the nobos have come thru. How starting in the beauty of oregon and ending in the desert. And lasty and big logistic differences

    That was a great video. I came across your station because Utube recommended it as something I may be interested in. That was a lot of great information and insight to going solo or with others. I was wondering what people pack and how heavy there backpack is. You gave me a lot of good ideas to pack, but how much weight are you carrying? Good for you that you follow your dreams. Good luck on your newest adventure. 🎒🥾🥾

    Very inspiring as always. I just finished the Little ‘ol WCT in Canada and now I want to do a section hike here on the PCT before the summer is over. I resonate with all of your takeaways. Hiking alone has given me so much confidence. And Being flexible is also important and part of the fun! One topic that I need more detailed info on that maybe you can share (if you have not already) is how exactly you use your navigation tools and apps. I’m currently having a problem updating my garmin and I’m using AllTrails most of the time. People recommend so many different mapping options and I feel a little overwhelmed with understanding how to utilize them to assist me when I need it. Enjoy your next PCT Experience!

      Glad you enjoyed the new video! I've put together a couple different videos featuring the various navigation tools I use when out on trail. Depending on the trail I'm hiking, I'll use onX Backcountry, Gaia GPS and even the FarOut Guide app. Here's a link to a video where I show how I planned a recent trip using some of these navigation tool: czcams.com/video/aOArmUZQwd8/video.html
      As for actual video tutorials on how to use these various tools in details, I have those included in my online backpacking program for women, The Confident Solo Female Backpacker System: www.the-hungry-hiker.com/the-confident-solo-female-backpacker-system/

    If you happen to need a new pair of hiking shoes can you order those from the back country food store

    • @TheHungryHiker
      @TheHungryHiker  Před rokem +2

      With the Backcountry Foodie Resupply Coordination Service, I can either send to her all of my gear that I'll need for my hike and then she will send it to me wherever I need it along the trail OR I can tell her whatever it is I need, she'll order it for me and have it sent to me out on trail. The only "store" with this service is the option to purchase premade Backcountry Foodie backpacking meals, which she will then send to me wherever I need them out on trail.

    Good luck on your hike. Consider taking the Tunnel Falls/Eagle Creek alt from Cascade Locks. I was on the PCT section (Cascade Locks to Wahtum Lake) end of May and and it was littered with blowdowns. Assume you will be on the trail before PCT Days (Aug 18th) and will miss it this year.

    • @TheHungryHiker
      @TheHungryHiker  Před rokem

      Thank you! Great suggestion! That section of trail was still closed by in 2018 and 2019 when I came through and I would love to see it now that it's open again. Hopefully this late in the season, trail crews have had a chance to come out and get rid of some of the blowdowns (hopefully!!)

    • @shanksmare
      @shanksmare Před rokem

      @@TheHungryHiker My guess is that they have not done any maintenance on the trail. When I went through, there were signs warning that due to the fire the trail was not maintained. That policy could have changed in the last month. There was a big storm in the gorge when I was up there. Doubled the number of blowdowns. There is a cutoff that would allow you to skip most of the blowdowns and do the last 5 or 6 miles to the lake. The clime out of Cascade Locks is fun. Teakettle Springs was flowing strong at that time. But who knows what the flow is now.

    Good advice. Good luck on your journey. I'm looking forward to following your progress. I'm looking at doing the PCT SOBO in 2016. I live near the southern terminus so I'll essentially be walking home. My biggest concern is water. California water really dries up by late spring and summer. I'll be curious to see what you experience.

    • @TheHungryHiker
      @TheHungryHiker  Před rokem

      Water in Southern California is one of my big concerns too. It will be interesting to see, after the very wet winter/spring they've had down there this year, what the water situation will look like down there in a few months. I'm prepared for heavy water carries no matter what.
