What tool did you use to cut the splits in multiple pieces ?
Hard work. Which is not shown .... at all. You pound on the log with a sledge hammer about a million times ! Don't get me wrong , I love doing it. I'm going to do a video on the process soon. There are a few already up on youtube showing the process. Some better than others. All better than this one. I sell the strips on ebay now and then and hope to sell steadily inthe near future. Many times they're refered to as "reeds". Look closely for hand pounded if you want the real deal. Sometime , well often , reed is sawn maple wood , not black ash. Maple is fine for interior but not for ANY outdoor use ie packbasket , garden basket ect. It will mold then rot.

I had to slow down the video speed to 0.25x when she started making the walls of the basket. I couldn't keep up! 😭
Literally the only reason I could keep up with what she was doing... is that I've fooled around with a hand loom, weaving cloth.

MineDie 5782. I make black ash splints. I've just sold some on ebay and I'm thinking of list more. I've been asking .50 per foot for 1 " rough stock. That's to say they are 1" to 1.25" wide , not scraped , not split ( thickness wise). That's for the person who doesn't mind some work but doesn't want to pound on a log with a sledgehammer for hours on end. To take the same splints and trim , scrape and split they would still be about $ . 50 per foot , but be ready to use for finer more delicate baskets. Narrower pieces could be made as well based on the same pricing. 1/2" $.25 per foot , 1/4 " $.15 per foot etc. I've got them on ebay if you want to check them out or reply and we'll figure out how to make contact.
