- In this latest episode of the "The Stoked Bloke Show" host Barton Lynch and co-host Peter PK King look at the first week of the annual BL Blast Off Global Video Challenge and share in the the groms videos and stoke.
They look at the opening swell of the 2023 North Shore winter surf season and review the qualifications for the 2024 WSL World Tour after the Challenger series final event in Brazil.
They also check in on the worlds longest running kids event the Haleiwa Menehunes in its 46th year of stoking groms out and like the Blast Off it is a breeding ground for future champions.
The Stoked Bloke is absolutely the best surf-related media outlet. BL is so knowledgeable, but also a great communicator and PK plays the moderator role perfectly. Keep at it!

I'm a big bloke 6 foot 3 and 220 pounds, I'm 47 and met you Barton around 1992 In Newquay Cornwall. I've since moved down to the far west of Cornwall UK have been here about 25 years in Penzance which has the beauty of both coasts Atlantic and western approaches this time of years Im in most days. Its crazy the froth keeps frothing the older you get. Waves here not classic, but finding an out the way reef keeps things spicy.
I feel that I'm peaking with fitness And heard Grant Twiggy Baker say hes in better shape he was at 50 than he was at 40. we must keep the fires burning. Iyengar yogas been a true companion to my time in the water, the grounding earthy focus of yoga and its alignment for body and soul compliments the time spent in watery nirvana.
Thanks for your podcast mate. I'm cooking up some pasta and always have a big grin hearing your take on life, so much information in such a short space of time and its all fascinating. Nourishing honesty which you don't find much of online.

The women are the coming force. Erin's final winning wave in Brazil was astonishing. Very few, and I'm including the men could have pulled that off. She is gifted with dainty frame with fast feet and strength and super fit with courage to burn. Future world champ. Looking good with Marxy, Brooksy and Simmo going big guns. Then Pinkerton, Kenworthy and Luana and others coming through next year.

Great content as always. It would be interesting to know your opinion on the Kelly Slater wildcard for 2024. An ambassador for the sport, probably the greatest surf competition performer so far, but does he really deserve a wildcard to every CT contest? Is it justifiable to grant hm a valedictory tour? My understanding of a wildcard in a sporting sense, is that the individual or team is an unknown quality, unpredictable, and capable of causing upsets. The Kelly Slater of today, isn't that surfer I believe. Why not maintain the tradition of the wildcard being an underground charger, local or up and coming surfer?

Re the wildcard I tend to agree with you regarding the definition and intention of a wildcard, I see it much the same way but maybe it can be seen others way too and another go around for the king is historic but will it be remebered in the context of all he achieves I dont really think so, its a good question you raise so thanks.
I seen a comment from Shaun Cansdell maybe 12 months ago I think he mentioned you'd need $50k???.
I don't watch every episode but always worth watching some just plain common sense.

Every now and then, we recognize the "Look" on a Groom, that silent stare , combined with the style and smooth ripper lines, the way you can even tell he understands what, sinking the rail , as a samurai with a katana really is about, or the ever gentle touch of the surface of the wave as he brings memories of Tommy Curren bottom turn, you recognize the Look, and Florida grooms are 💯 stoke all the time, you value the swell more in Florida and you know, if you don't ride the gnarliest wave, they won't allow you to forget, nevertheless the biggest heat is always surf against yourself, push yourself beyond your own breaking point, just how Barton needed to paddle around a bit, he only has one north, and God willing, he will stand once again to feel the thrill of the ride once again, every now and then. Size L or XL will fuel the stoke in Florida, Cheers and Thank you.
