Pls I'll like to know how this same experience and cultural expectations will be for a poor man or a middle class man...I hope you understand what I mean( I am Igbo from Anambra state and we don't accept cheap wrappers that's why am asking on behalf of a man that wants to pay this bride price and bring all these wrappers for these cultures).. Lol
The Kalabari culture is a bit similar to the Okrika culture (which is where I’m from) By tradition, our marriage is in 3 stages. (Iria, Ngwa & Okurukaka) Back then if you don’t have much money, you might be able to do the first two. The last marriage must be done, some do it after having children because of cost implications. However if the woman dies before it is done, her body and her children still belong to her father’s people. The man would have to perform the complete rite on their first daughter and also pay a stipulated fee for each child before he’s allowed to bury her and leave with their kids.
