You guys, J.K. Rowling and Steve Kloves did an interview together after the last movie was released and they actually talked at length about the tent dance scene between Harry and Hermione. Jo actually admitted that, while writing Harry and Hermione in the absence of Ron, she felt a strong pull between them that she had to struggle past and try to ignore because she knew Ron was eventually going to come back. Steve basically said that he had picked up on that tension when reading the book and had created the dance scene as sort of an homage to that strange "will they, won't they" feeling that he experienced. They chose to use a song British people would recognise because it connected Harry and Hermione together due to them both having grown up in the muggle world. Jo actually said that she loved it because it was very true to what was happening in her head while she was writing those chapters.
So yeah... Harry and Hermione very nearly was a canon thing for a second there both in the films and the books. 😂

The song fits. Though, the scene itself is awkward. Which is a chronic issue I felt in the later movies, when attempting to show friendship, it always came off awkward or forced. Could of had kept the song, and done another action to cheer her up, that at least to me, seemed out of character for both characters in the scene.

That scene with Harry and Hermione dancing to O Children (I got that answer right by the way) is one of mine and my dad's favorite scenes in the movies. It just gives you a break from the world for a second and shows the deep platonic connection between Harry and Hermione. Both my dad and I have read the books, and even if it pushed some of the plot out, it's still something I wouldn't change. The movies aren't a perfect retelling of the books, after all, and aren't considered "canon" by the fandom. It's just nice. My best guy friend and I danced to that song as well at our prom. It was one of the most magical moments of my life, even if I am a muggle.

I'm glad you have such a deep connection to it! I think if they had cut that out, they could have brought in Kreacher's backstory and that scene. It was well-executed, but just a bit ill-placed in the grand scheme of things. It should have always been in the final cut, just maybe shortened.

The dance to Oh Children is one of my favorite scenes of both book and movie. I've read the books many times and I don't ship Harry and Hermione. I saw it as friends just taking a break from all they are dealing with. When you look at emotional progression of that scene, it is just beautiful. It starts with Hermione looking sad and Harry trying to cheer her up but she is reluctant, but then gets into it and by the end they are back to reality. Then the refrain of Children is a reminder to the audience that these are just children and they facing this impossible task. It really is quite beautiful and ads something special to the movie. I also think if people stop thinking that everything is fan service they will enjoy the changes the movie made a lot more.

Dark grey would be about 75%, which is more what the sock is, probably would call it 80-85% opacity. Still within dark grey territory, but waaaayyyy out of regular grey range.other colors get fancy names, grey gets modifiers, and without any like on the quiz, its way WAY off.

Y'all thought the dance with Harry and Hermione in the tent was WEIRD??? I LOVED THAT SCENE. Legit one of my favourites in that movie (that and the Christmas at Godric Hallow moment/ the tale of the three brothers). I know it wasn't in the books, but it was such a nice touch in my opinion. I thought it was such a nice and sweet thing between two FRIENDS. Like they're in the middle of war, and just lost Ron, and were both in such a dark place Harry just thought he'd help cheer his best friend up because that's Harry ya know, always being selfless and thinking of others.
Also side note, I'm pretty sure the song O' Children subtly talks about war/pretty dark and heavy themes, so it's in no way a "platonic just friends" song.

I actually once watched an interview with JKR and the script writer (I think). And they explained that the purpose of this was to visualise the extended inner monologues and descriptions from the book that are hard to translate to visual medium. We have to separate ourselves from the idea that the films are a visualisation of the books. They are adaptions. They tell the same overall story but are different in the details due to different options. A good example of this is the dragon fighting scene in GOF. In the book, we get to read Harry's feelings of "this is where I belong, up in the air, just like fighting a very strong quidditch team", but in the film they had to find different ways to emphasize how secure Harry was on a broom.

My friends goal in life is to become an English teacher and make her students read Harry potter. Now most people would just watch the film so then she would give them a 20 page test on peeves

Order of the Phoenix is my favorite movie, because the DA scenes, especially the one where they practice conjuring patronuses (patroni? whatever) just make me so happy.
