Their most underrated song. A true gem (amongst many gems). Very poignant and adult lyrics and a welcome change from "oh baby, I miss you, don't leave me". All the more impressive as this was in their early days when their lyrics weren't as developed as in later years. Best of all is the crescendo-building finale - modulating higher with each new chorus and an ever-increasing choir. Truly remarkable.

Man ... what voices and the way it just continued to build up to the ending was perfect. Many of their songs were fine, but they never approached the emotion levels of 'Dance'.
I am an avid, rabid pop music lover and I have spent the better part of my 46 years accumulating all my knowledge and collection and I will agree with you. Abba was definitely the best POP band that has ever formed. There is virtually not one song of theirs, whether a released single of an album cut that I do not like. I can not even think of any group that even comes close to that kind of track record. Benny and Bjorn had a formula to writing quality pop songs like no other songwriters
I agree totally, Gusdocs1. The Beatles, for example, has never awaken same kind of feelings in me that Abba has and does. So thankful for being a teenager in the late 70´s, early 80´s, when they ruled!
Their magic lies in giving joy across cultures, beliefs and colours. I like to believe they were a part of others' childhood as they were of mine - a young African living in an era when all appeared beautiful and laid back. Long live ABBA!

There’s an incredible transition at the 0:45 second mark and again at 1:33,2:06 , etc... Abba were master songwriters who knew how to build amazing layers in their songs. Absolute ear candy.
This song will always have a special place in my heart, it played at the end of my mums best friends funeral yesterday. She was practically like my aunt, and she took her own life not so long after we had an argument with her, I wish things turned out better between us. But now whenever I listen to this song I’ll think of her, to everyone reading this comment, take care of your close ones, and make sure to enjoy every minute you spend with them, as you’ll never truly know when is it your last time talking to them. “Yet it seems to make me sad. Beautiful music, Abba is by far the best music ever, they are still very much loved in Australia. I recently learned that Agnetha also wrote several of their songs, and still writes music today.
The way they sing this song is so heartbreaking. The increasing intensity of the repitition of the chorus feels like they have lost hope and really knows that this is the end. It kinda reflects the artist as a whole and how they departed in '82. This is also one of the very best uses of their fade out at the end of their songs.

I totally agree! Yes, Agnetha is in the lead here in the beginning and she's doing great! Frida is also a very great singer, and she is also very beautiful - but it simply is not true that Agnetha stood out only because of her blonde hair. It contributed to it, but she certainly has other qualities, too (that smile, composing her own songs for a long time, playing the piano...). It's not fair to "compare" the 2 Abba ladies in such a way as user "William Overly" did! Both are simply great, each in her own way.
It is beautiful on all levels. It is sad but it does make you want to dance. It is melancholy but happy too because there is acceptance and a sense that life will go on. I came to full appreciation of ABBA late but along with "Andante, Andante" and "I wonder", this one registered back in the 70s.

Pre-chorus to chorus, back to pre-chorus and then a long fade-out of the chorus, while the key is raised every time it repeats. There is NO other song like this! And yet, it works like magic. Whenever I hear it, I always wonder how many times you'd have to repeat the chorus at the end before only dogs can hear it!

This has always been my favourite, there are so many great songs but for some reason this one edges ahead not by much as my favourite, it’s the build up towards the end, gets me every time ❤️
