I've just watched this video with interest and pleasure. Thanks, Radu for sharing your knowledge
Glad you enjoyed it! :-)
I really appreciate you sharing this very important knowledge regarding data manipulation. I really respect people that offer tools to others to empower themselves. Your work, your videos in here are brilliant, all your topics are super interesting and they have a ver good rythm. also you are super funny , your jokes are best.
Please keep it up am studying all your videos. i hope you are doing great, cant thank you enough.
Glad you find these things useful!
Great! Thank you, sensei
Any time! :-)
Hi Radu! Great tutorial on using browser developer tools to generate fake data for privacy. I found it very useful. Could you please make a video explaining how to create a browser extension that applies this same concept of generating fake data automatically? It would be really helpful for those of us looking to automate this process for various applications. Thanks!
Thanks for the tip. I might do it someday :-) let's see...
I have quite many things planned already for the rest of the year and part of next year too.
Nice trick,
6:10 Just make sure when you loop the fetched quotes count you didn't go beyond the texts/authors count.
Thanks Radu!
Good tip! :-)
nice snippet! Can we create some sort of advanced weather station based on public api + canvas. something that can grab things like METAR/TAF then convert it to easily understandable info such as weather sock drawn in canvas, adding other elements like clouds/rain overlay. Like a glass cockpit of a modern airplane or ATC radar screen
It's a nice idea :-) I like it... we would use some external functionality through the API but lets us be creative as well. I'll add it on my list... someday it will happen.
Awesome tutorial!
Thank you.
Very interesting. Thanks!
You're welcome :-)
Before watching vid thanks❤
You're welcome :-)
Look, i am just evil black hat guy. To add more drama, make a chrome extension to do that automatically once you open your gmail. And then you can record your screen and tell to your friends. Look, my professor sent me these hot pictures on my email. Ahahahah Before you record the video, send some ai generated pictures from other email and make javascript use your professor's email, name and signature. You can convince everyone in the room 100%. LoL
Hope nobody does that 😕
But there is so much fake news nowadays that I'm quite sure people don't instantly believe something like that :-P
Geez.👀👀 So it is good to be careful not to click on anything.😁👍Just one detail: I know you had announced a live about that cart game, for these days. Could you confirm the day and time. 👀👍
go to his channel, under the live page it’s scheduled
5/31 4:00am EST i think bc that’s my time zone

Seems like you got the answer :-)
3:41 the link is not in the description, tho...
Thanks for pointing it out. Now it is.
Amazing! Now I am certified in hacking. For real. This is a good exercise to web development students.
DOM manipulation, not hackin' 🤣
@@backstabba Using DOM manipulation to take screenshots of content that you're not authorized to capture can be considered a form of unauthorized access, which is a key component of hacking³. While DOM manipulation itself is a legitimate web development technique, using it to bypass security measures or access restricted information without permission crosses into unethical territory and can be legally problematic.
In cybersecurity, any action that involves gaining unauthorized access to computer systems, data, or networks is generally regarded as hacking³. This includes exploiting vulnerabilities or manipulating the DOM to perform actions like taking unauthorized screenshots. It's crucial to respect privacy and legal boundaries when working with web technologies. If you're unsure whether an action is authorized, it's best to err on the side of caution and assume that it's not permitted.
@@JeffOnhill DOM manipulation doesn't give you access to any unauthorized content. Of course if you are sent a list of passwords from the server, you could use DOM manipulation to render it. But you didn't hack the data, it was made available to you and you will always be able to claim that you thought it is tokenized etc., because you didn't bypass security nor guessed backend's endpoint nor stole someone's session cookie...
Indeed... similar thoughts came to my mind when making this video... and I hesitated about posting it. Also, not sure what Google thinks about me choosing them to demonstrate this. Some websites have warning messages appear in the console saying that 'you shouldn't be there'... but I didn't notice similar ones here.
But... truth is, in my early career I always had to demonstrate different features from other apps during meetings... and it was always an awkward situation when some private message was appearing there and others could see it. So, after I learned these things it became a better experience and I think others should know this is possible... And the fact that one can 'hack' and fake email content so easily to take a screenshot should also be known... it's easy to spot if someone does some editing in paint / photoshop, but hacking it like this can be really convincing.
I like this .
:-)
What’s the purpose of of this video?
I had many reasons for making this...
- to teach DOM manipulation
- to teach Developer Tools
- to show how to use data from some API
- to show how easy it is to fake data on the web (people should know)
- to show how you can demo features of different apps without leaking private information
Why do you ask?
