    It's in the black pipefitters handbook, really easy, You set your pipes where you want them then use a flat edge (soapstone) to trace the outline of the branch on to the header. And use a marker held at a constant distance on the soapstone to trace your branch....

    This is so 1960's. I'm retired now, but in the early 1980's I used to program an 8kb Sharps pocket computer to template any shape, any thickness, angle, offset centre, any number of ordinates, set in or set on.
    I could mark both ends of an oil rig bracer straight off the computer, or use a small print out strip with the cut back dimensions, cut both ends and guarantee a perfect fit.
    Where the angle was tight I could run the program for an OD to OD fit back bevel anl mark this over the
    ID on OD line and make a transition join between the two preps.

    Ok I can lay out with different techniques been doing it for years never done it this way but I’m sure it is what he’s talking the easiest way to explain it is position the pipe exactly the degree and position you want it you a welding rod are tig wire that is longer then the widest gap on the intersecting , make a scribe mark on the back side of welding rod are tig wire in mutable spots around the pipe , the closer the marks are the better the fit connect the dots , another way of doing it also by putting marks on the welding rod are tig wire and transferring it over on to the pipe hope I helped the ones who didn’t know this method and for the others if you know you know

    Assuming that you're actually selling something since you don't share any details whatsoever....I would go ahead and say great job inventing something the trade hasn't needed for a couple decades. In case you haven't noticed these days we have these neat machines called computers that layout perfect coordinates everytime, and a fancy newfangled contraption called a Vernon tool that uses that perfect layout to make a perfect cut everytime. In the field everything comes pre-fabbed from the shop, rendering this fantastically unimportant. In 17 years in the trade I've laid out co-ordinates to fit a lateral or dummy support a grand total of ONCE....and that was in trade school. Since then I've completely forgotten how to do it out of a total lack of necessity to remember! So if I ever perfect the time machine I've been working on I'll be sure to take you back to 1960 and we'll all be rich!

    I have a lot of respect for these guys however, I agree with some other comments. I watched the video but learned nothing. What are they selling?. At least tell us what the product is "educational video, templates, a tool, etc". My assumption for getting a proper cut would be to set the lateral in place then trace around the header with a extended marker. This would scribe the proper arc onto the lateral. After cutting put the lateral back in place and mark around onto the main header. If there's an easier way let us know in the video and it might be worth another look.

    I have to agree with most of the other comments here it was low life to even put a video on here like this and get people interested in it and then not show them the evidence of what they're saying works well I don't have time to make the video right now by the grace of God only I've been a pipe welder and a fitter and I started in the trade oh, probably 40 years ago , and I know how to fit up any pipe any pipe, any degree or slope, believe me you don't need these template books and even though I know right angle trigonometry and glad I do and I understand how to do a lot of things by the book but I can take a roll of paper that goes on cash registers I could quarter or 1/8 or 1/16 even coordinate lines on a pipe , using soapstone and I can take bamboo shoots and I can show you a trick with 3 foot bamboo shoots sold at hobby villa or walmart, I can show you how to mark off piping coordinate sections and just zip cut it real fast with a plasma Arc torch wasn't that crazy to use a speedy cut disc like they're doing to cut that drawn out section and no telling how many times they had to put a new disc on the grinder, all they had to do is just take a plasma torch and in 45 seconds that would have been already cut and then just buff the edges, that in itself told me right there that we was looking at a lot of hit and miss here and who's going to pay money like one guy said below who's going to pay $90 for something they don't even get to see showed, oh what a rip-off this video is.

    • @jeredotts5705
      @jeredotts5705 Před 7 lety +1

      moseseseseses I could tell about 3/4 of way through your paragraph when you were talking about them using a cut off wheel that you didn't know what the hell you're talking about. You go to refineries and nuclear power houses like that you can't just fire up a torch anywhere or plasma cutter you better be able to use that Metabo or get run off the job. just because you can clip the end off a piece of receipt paper and put your coordinates on the pipe doesn't mean that you can actually lay it out and make it work either. you notice it fit up really good they didn't have to put all thread rod in there like what you probably do. stop hating Union and join one

      Hi, please, check www.etubespro.com where you will find a real practical method for fabricating saddle templates for tubes/pipes of any size and thickness intersecting any other tubes/pipes at any angle. It works with offsets in any direction or plane. A lateral pipe can intersect several other pipes at the joint. It takes only a few minutes to set up the 3D model and see exactly how the connection looks like. From there the profile templates, at both ends of the lateral, are obtained in DXF / DWG format. The thickness of the lateral pipe is taken into account to comply with AWS welding requirements. This approach is frankly cheaper than any other method. There is no need for any fancy software nor sophisticated equipment to achieve always a perfect fit and welding.

    This video does not show at all how they do it! Must be Magic right? My pure guess is, align the new pipe in the desired position, offset, angles etc., tack in place, find and measure the biggest gap, then very carefully scribe that distance always parallel to the new pipe (a little tricky) on the new pipe against the would be intersection with (also a little tricky) the fixed pipe and mark all around the new pipe, cut the tack and then go cut the pipe. This is very similar to trim carpentry scribing with a compass only on two round pipes instead of a "straight" piece of wood and a wall. This does not sound like "hack and slash" to me. Am I close to guessing what is in the $90 video? There may still be some very valuable instruction in the video for how to do this easily in some of the more difficult situations but I do not know what is in that video. What has the guy with 20-30 yrs experience been doing?

      Hey Bro, its very simple i've done this long time ago and im the youngest at that time and nobody believes me how quick am i in fabrication from 2"-36" pipe it will take only 6-10 minutes when you scribe your template then cut, time of bevelling defends on the contour & dimeter of the pipe . no secret, no special tools & calculator bro. just a simple carton or cartboard box and inbetween is the corrugated part, cut it on your desired width & diameter i mean just like a wrap around, insert the tig welding rod on the corrugated part.. viola!!! the magic of pipefitting video part 2:20-2:35, 4:35-5:00, 9:30-10

    This video is a total scam, sham, whatever you wish to call it. For all we know they could have spent the whole previous week developing those intersections the traditional way.
