9:22 For those who are unaware, the meme is probably referring to the 588th-night bomber regiment. Also known as the "Night witches", this is one of the 3 all-women air regiments fielded by the Soviet Union during the Great Patriotic War. Flying obsolete Po-2 biplanes, a favorite night-time bombing tactic of the 588th is to turn off their engines on approach, glide towards their target, and drop their payload. If some pilots decided to laugh as they drop their payload, that would probably be the only thing, alongside wind batting against the wooden structure of their planes, the Germans could hear before the bombs land and explode.

Dunkirk meme's pretty dang accurate. The Brits informed the French in the morning that they had 'tactically withdrawn from their positions' the night before and were racing to Dunkirk and French thanos was like 'Fine: I'll cover the evacuation myself'
Not really... The British evacuated a lot of French soldiers as well, well over 150,000. Really both countries soldiers worked together to allow Dunkirk to succeed. Such as British and French troops fighting to the death in hand to hand combat in Calais. Plus the raf and rn basically suiciding to save brits and French alike
@@kariminal2999 Yes but they evacuated a lot more British than French and let's not forget the Belgians too.
@@kariminal2999 at dunkirk itself it was a little more balanced but in the closing pocket around it not really. Those that stayed an fought did Bravely but it was nowhere near enough.
"Meanwhile, Erwin Rommel had surrounded five divisions of the French First Army near Lille. Although completely cut off and heavily outnumbered, the French fought on for four days under General Molinié in the Siege of Lille, thereby keeping seven German divisions from the assault on Dunkirk and saving an estimated 100,000 Allied troops.[32] In recognition of the garrison's stubborn defence, German general Kurt Waeger granted them the honours of war, saluting the French troops as they marched past in parade formation with rifles shouldered.[33]" and with all due respect to the royal airforce who when they were there fought bravely but "Churchill, knowing France was lost, held back many planes that could have been sent in order to preserve them for home defence." Anyways We should not argue as we were allies but as usual history tends to write out the sacrifice and struggles of the French ( particularly in WW2).
@@kariminal2999 they evacuated French soldiers after English soldiers, and the British High Command ordered a retreat even if that would mean huge gaps in the defensive lines. French soldiers had to fought against all odds and strictly alone, as the British soldiers were following their orders and waiting for the evacuation...the "miracle of Dunkirk" as Churchill said was made possible because French soldiers gave their lives to hold their lines way longer than expected by both Germans and British...it's a shame that those French soldiers received more respect and gratefulness from German soldiers than Allied, during this battle and still long after the war ended.
@@AlexC-ou4ju Churchill held back planes for home defence in the main battle, not Dunkirk. It also made sense as the raf was outnumbered 3 to 1. They barely survived the battle of Britain with radar and code cracking, how tf would it have made sense to lose them in France without radar and cipher cracking.
3:36 when you hear your mom curse for the first time
the ONE thing about Dunkirk that really gets me is that we also evacuated over 100 000 French soldiers as well, making just under 1 in 3 soldiers evaced French
For that last one Drew it’s the truth - France sacrificed its best armies to hold Dunkerque while the Brits were able to escape and carry on the fight
and then the british evacuated thousands of the french to allow them to keep fighting as free france but yh the french rear guard really made the whole thing possible but without the British fleet the french would have been massacred.
No lol. Both Britain and France evacuated tons of troops in Dunkirk. I'm not saying the French didn't sacrifice but so did the brits. Really the only reason more French forces couldn't evacuate was they were cut off from Dunkirk. Like the raf and rn suicided lots of planes and ships to allow Dunkirk to succeed. British fishing boats rowed French and brits out alike. Both countries worked together. In Calais British and French troops fought to the death in hand to hand combat to buy time. So no both sides did their part

The British probably knew about the nuke since at first it was planned to use British Lancaster bombers because there was no US plane with a large enough bomb-bay to carry either nuke. The problem was finally solved when they modified the B-29s by removing parts of the wing spar that was seperating the bomb-bay in two, thus giving enough space for the nukes.
Plus the B29 were faster. The British almost carried out the operation due to political reasons.
The nuke was a British project. Not an American one.
In reference to the end of WW2 meme, Drew asked if the US told the UK and France. While I'm not sure about France, the UK knew for two reasons. First is that nukes were developed by a partially British team who reported back regularly, and the second is that the bombs were only dropped by the B-29s because they managed to speed up the development of the custom variant, they were almost dropped by RAF Lancasters.
France was ahead in nuclear research, and the researchers fled to England at the beginning of the war, so maybe France knew about it too.

9:22 Night witches moment.
Basically, a regiment of night bombers piloting pre-war training biplanes, with crews usually making 3-5 sorties per night. All the crews consisted of only women, this is where the nickname from the germans comes. And what also affected the nickname was the fact that all the bombers usually turned off their engines and glided to the german positions in nearly complete silence. It helped avoid the anti-air defense and due to the surprose factor the crews always had a lot of time to aim their bombs precisely, so the accuracy of their strikes was quite scary.
The pilots didn't laugh, but "real" witches did.

Western allies: "The Soviets are killing German civilians! Horrific!"
Western allies: _Firebombs Dresden_
“The greatest victory is that which requires no battle.” -Sun Tzu
Nah the "miracle of dunkirk" is pretty much the french vs german fight depicted in the meme.
The british received the order to concentrate on the evacuation and let the french defend the perimeter.
The numbers speak for themselves : the UK suffered 10.000 KIA during the battle of France, broken in 5.000 when a big civilian ship was sunk, 2.000 in the sunk boats during the evacuation, and 3.000 in land fights during the whole battle of France, while the french lost 18.000 KIA at dunkirk alone.
That doesn't mean that the british soldiers didn't fight when ordered, just that it is indeed correct that the french where the one blocking the germans at dunkirk during the evacuation.
The later tensions between france and the uk (france throwing the towel, the uk attacking the french fleet at port...) led to erase the deeds of the french in the british (and by extension english speaking world) minds.
No it’s not you complete liar
Look at the numbers of evacuation. Why don’t you understand that French generals demanded French soldiers to fight until the last bullet? It’s YOUR home. Yet still, 40k Brits stayed alongside the 40k French who were left, while 150k French left. But here you are, slandering soldiers who got captured for showing solidarity with France. More French died because there were 2.5m more French to begin with, because idk if you noticed, BUT ITS IN FRANCE

I searched on bing, the legend was a lie.
Fun fact: it was actually a British squad of Lancaster bombers that were going to drop the nukes on Japan. No American bombers were suitable and it was unsure if the b29 would be ready in time. A squad of fully black heavily modified lancasters were put in place ready. It was intended to use in air refuelling to complete the mission. This would be the first use of in air refuelling as the Lancaster wasn’t designed for the required range. This was unnecessary however as the Americans decided that they must drop it and so delayed it therefore killing many more as the war was lengthened because the Americans wanted to drop the big boom boom and nobody was surprised that the American government put their ego before their brave soldiers on the battlefield.
