We bathed our dogs outdoors so I got the added benefit of playing with water helping to give them baths. That was quite a while ago and they've all crossed the rainbow bridge at one point or another. I love the appreciation for the specific breeds but also the care to detail on what it takes to own them.
I love German Shepherds, and have been blessed with a few in my life, but too many people get specific breeds without knowing what it takes to give them the best life.
They. Are. Smart. Scarily smart. They will entertain themselves if you don’t, which can often be destructive, or worse, become neurotic and anxious without the proper stimulation. Honestly, as physically active as they are, I think mental stimulation with them might be more important. They are task driven and incredible, but not for everyone.
I love this breed, I just hope people who get them from breeders give them a fulfilling life in turn. ❤

@@rebel4466 Yup. This breed is not allowed in most high rises (both apartments and condos) in my city because of what you said as well as their temperament. Some shelters strongly recommend that they live in a house with a large yard and active lifestyles. One of the reasons why I will never own one, despite them making great pets.

I've been told by multiple people that GSDs are the second biggest victim of crappy puppy-mill breeding behind the lab. The old (expensive) service dog lines are intact, but the pet lines are totally thrashed and non-selective, which has washed out most of the classically desirable temperament - the sole (unintentional) benefit was breeding out the hideously-artificial back conformation of the purebred show dogs.

OMG!! She Looks like my Browni! Or as my daughter used to call her "Brown-brown." But she passed away several years ago after giving us years of her fibers of love. I miss her SO MUCH. She looked very, very similar to the German Shedder being groomed. And the TALKING! Oh, how much I miss it. She would talk... and talk... and talk when I arrived home from work in the evenings. We spent so much time together and she liked to "PUSH" my wife off the bed at night to be next to me that my loving, patient wife would call her my "furry wife." She was the sweetest dog, but you didn't dare try to harm myself or my family, OR she became the demon you feared in your dreams. We loved her so much because she was just so loving, loyal and entertaining. And smart... she never wandered too far from home, she could be trusted off a leash around ALL dogs and cats, and she could open/close & lock doors. crying happy tears of beautiful memories. If you ever owned A Germy, you know what I mean by loyalty and tons of love.
