I've got a redhead on its way. I hope it helps as much as yours did. traveling down a narrow country road in the middle of winter with a plow on the front of the Dodge is sketch city with my current steering set up!
This is an old video but I’ve got a 2002 2500 5 speed that I’m working on and my redhead steering box is the last thing I needed to get it back to perfect mechanical condition. I’ve been following along with your videos for a while, thank you for posting. I wish you struggled more with your rear pinion seal like I did but I got use from that vid as well. I think I broke 2 pullers removing that yoke from the rear end…
It's amazing how long we drive these gen 2's with steering issues. For me, I didn't realize how bad it was until I put a Blue Top Steering box in my truck. Feels like a brand new truck. No freeplay in the steering wheel. The truck no longer wanders in the lane.
Its one of those things I think people just assume is "because its old" and dont equate it to something actually being wrong.
Great video, subscribed. I just bought the RedHead steering box, Borgeson 950 steering shaft, Borgeson high flow pump, new Borgeson hoses, and went ahead with a Gould Gear & Electric vacuum pump. I wanted to rebuild everything all at once and I'm now waiting for my Mishimoto intercooler and radiator to arrive. I'm in Ukraine so it takes a little longer and much more expensive for these parts but it will be worth it.
Thank you for the Sub! That sounds like an awesome list of upgrades! Best of luck with you're truck!
You just convinced me
Andddddd soldddddd!
Nice bro
Thanks man, its definitely coming along. Just about ready for some long trips I think.
Heck yeah man! Thinking to get one asap. My truck steers terrible and so much play. Have you done anything to the shaft? I want to narrow the slip down to the shaft or the box before I drop the big bucks.
Did you do a video on all your steering components?
Yeah, I believe I did one prior, it was the ball joints, pitman and idler arm video. But pretty much new bushings, ball joints, tie rods, pitman and idler arm. Then the last thing was the steering box and it's good as new
Happen to know what brand of brush guard that is on the front? My dad has a 2000 dodge ram 3500 4x4 I'd love to find that kind of bumper for
I dont, it was on the truck when I got it and doesnt have any marks to identify brand
My Blind Friend's Megacab 4wd diesel had slack and he took it to the Stealership for Warranty and it came back the same. I crawled under it and a SWAY BAR LINK was just hanging there. Tomball Dodge...
C'mon Man!
Did the alignment fix the counter steer in turns
Counter steer? An alignment got the steering wheel straight, and the truck drives fine.
How’s it Holding up. Do you have a brace
Holding up great, haven't changed anything since this video with steering
no one mentions the high cost and only 1 year warranty
Here to report 2 years later, still just as good as when I installed it. I've come to realize, for the most part, you get what you pay for and good steering is worth it.
Great job with the video. I also appreciate the wrench sizes being provided. Ordering my Redhead box asap
