    I have a number of high end .22 caliber PCPs and my FX Crown Mk2 is my all around favorite. It’s my all fun plinking, pesting, and hunting airgun that's also great for serious target shooting.

      The issue I'm having is trying to decide between the crown and the FX impact. The plus side of the 25 Calder impact is that it has 90 FPE while the 25 caliber Crown has 60 FPE. In order for me to get the FPE from the crown I would have to purchase a 30 caliber. I like to test penetrating power especially at long distances so this is why the impact has an advantage but on the other hand I feel more comfortable handling the crown. Confused!

      @surreallife777 So buy one of each 😁
      Kidding aside, the Crown and the Impact are very different airguns, there is a lot of latitude in performance and adjustability but it's best to go with typical applications for the design.
      I'd recommend deciding on what you REALLY need for the type of shooting you will do MOST of the time.
      For shorter (sub 75 yards) I prefer 18g pellets in the Crown, for longer ranges (75-100 yards) 25g pellets/slugs in the Impact, beyond that it's slugs in the Panthera.
      You are focused on FPE. Do you need that power? Most of my PCPs are .22 caliber ('cause .22 is economical - air and cost), and my favorites are 30ish FPE, which I find to be plenty for plinking, pesting, and hunting squirrels and rabbits. My Impact is ~50 FPE and the Panthera ~65 FPE and both will end up being tuned down for pellets once I'm done experimenting with slugs.
      IMHO, High power has lots of disadvantages, don't over-gun yourself, buy what you need.
      Good luck with your purchase!
      Cheers!

    I have the continuum. A great gun potentially, but there are limitations to the information out there about it. For example, I'm not sure it is set correctly from the factory (as this video implies). Mine arrived at 160 bar regulator pressure, while the manual warns against going above 150 bar. Furthermore, I get higher power with my transfer valve adjuster wheel set to medium, than I do on high. Also, my 380mm barrel liner came without spacers. Months later I am still not sure if the 380mm should have come with spacers. For the price, I would have expected more clarity on a lot of these points although thankfully I've got it shooting reasonably well now. But it leaves you frustrated when you buy a gun for its adjustability and then, once you have it set up a certain way, you get nervous about changing anything in case you can't go back to your previous "acceptable " tune.

    @PursuitofAccuracy What's your opinion? How do you decide between a 25 caliber and a 30 caliber? I like accuracy of course but I also like penetrating power/fpe at longer distances shooting test subjects like Pinewood.
    I've spent quite a lot of time trying to understand this but I'm not sure my conclusion is correct This is the area where Airguns become very complicated in terms of accuracy and energy and distance.
    Here goes. A 30 caliber slug will have more energy/penetrating power when it hits a target using exactly the same gun at a certain distance.
    On the other hand because of the added weight, the energy of the 30 caliber slug might lose more energy than a 25 cal slug when it hits a target at say at over 150 yards compared to a 25 caliber at 150 yards, but at 100 yards, the 30 caliber slug will have better accuracy and much higher penetrating power/FPE? The best way to figure this out is to have two identical guns with chronographs but difficult to do.

    • @FXAirguns

      @FXAirguns I prefer the feel of the FX Crown when I hold it as compared to the impact do you think if I switched to 30 caliber that would be a solution to having less FPE what's the crown as compared to the impact? I like to do long distance shooting with a 500 mm Barrel and test penetration rates so 30 caliber would probably be the best?

    • @FXAirguns
      @FXAirguns  Před 24 dny +1

      @@surreallife777 A 500mm barrel isn’t the best choice for long range I would opt for at least a 600-700 mm barrel for that and a smaller faster projectile will have better penetration potential then a larger slower one . So a .22 slug at a 1000fps will do better then a .30 Diablo shaped at 880fps

    • @surreallife777
      @surreallife777 Před 24 dny

      @@FXAirguns This is the area where Airguns become very complicated in terms of accuracy and energy and distance. I spent quite a bit of time trying to understand it and I’m not sure about my conclusion even at this point. But here goes. A 35 caliber slug will have more energy/penetrating power when it hits a target. This is why hunters when using pellet guns for larger game use larger caliber slugs like 35 caliber.
      On the other hand because of the added weight, the energy of the 35 caliber slug might lose more energy when it hits a target at say at over 150 yards compared to a 25 caliber at 150 yards, but at 100 yards, the 35 caliber slug will have better accuracy and much higher penetrating power/FPE.
      The consensus is that slugs are more accurate at longer distances and have more penetrating power/energy/FPE. If you were shooting, say a larger game at 200 yards would you choose a 25 caliber slug or a 35 caliber slug and if you were shooting the same game at 100 yards, which caliber would you choose in terms of accuracy and energy/penetrating power FPE? This is where it gets confusing. Do you agree?

    Just bought a Crown in the UK. My second FX - already own an Impact. I obviously like the guns having now bought a second but, you need to do something with the pellet magazines - they’re awful. Out of the box, the Crown’s wouldn’t go in without extreme force then, didn’t want to come out. My Impact jammed and had to go to hospital. I threw the plastic crap away and replaced all with EagleVision’s excellent alternatives - problems solved. Surely FX know those things have an appalling reputation? One other thing - why does the factory thread lock every nut and bolt so the user can’t undo them? It’s really annoying. For example; there’s a 1.5mm Allen bolt on the Impact’s trigger to permit length travel - clearly, this is there to be adjusted but, I couldn’t shift it and had to return the gun to importer to release it. I don’t want to be messing around with heat on a nice new gun!

      Hi , sorry to hear about you experiencing regarding the magazines. We recently renewed the magazines for better experience. The problem you described with the magazines can be a number of things. Might be the barrel was set to deep into the block interfering with the magazine resulting in a tough insert .
      The magazine for the impact jamming is not a common issue. What projectiles where you shootings? As it might have jammed by using short light projectiles like some light slugs . If you upgrade to the metal ones from EV which are optimized for that it will work fine . We addressed that in our new magazines.
      Last regarding the lock tide we do this because after time it’s inherently that some screws back out changing the factory tune . We need to do this so the majority of the people can enjoy there new rifle straight out of the box with the factory tune not worrying about screws coming loose .

      @@FXAirguns thanks for taking the time to reply. That my Crown’s magazine wouldn’t fit would lead me to think that your UK distributor didn’t check it before dispatching it to the retailer/RFD (if you ever read any of the comments about them in the UK’s air gun forum, I’m afraid the consensus of opinion there isn’t flattering). And, this is a new gun, bought by me March 2024 so, shouldn’t this have been supplied with your revised magazine? The EagleVision product fitted fine, first time. In that I found a number of rusty bolts in the gun’s laminate stock, I’m guessing it had been sitting around for a while - another disappointing find in a top of the range rifle bought at a top of the range price.
      The projectiles used in the Impact M3 were Air Arms Diabolo Field Heavy Pellets, 5.52mm diameter, 18gr. I wouldn’t have thought these are considered particularly short nor light?
      As to locking threads, surely most of your customers want to adjust them? Why buy a gun with so many adjustable features if you can’t? Why provide a trigger length of pull screw if it can’t be undone? I’m a member of an air rifle shooting club and I speak to lots of people with Impacts and Crowns - owners mostly tell me the same things - magazines being the biggest gripe.
      Anyway, FX clearly make very popular guns. My criticisms are intended to be constructive. Now they’re sorted, I love these guns and wouldn’t part with them. Thanks again for your reply.
