What a scene. Joan Van Ark & Larry Hagman really shine as you can see how Val & JR have such a rich history. J.R. Ewing is one of the greatest characters in TV history & this scene is shows exactly why.
Love how J.R. feigned ignorance about Gary and Valene's separation to Valene, even though Richard just told him, J.R. was such a good bullshitter, and he loved to get Valene's goat.
J.R. Was very hateful & he enjoyed being very hateful. J.R. Hated his brothers Gary, Ray & Bobby, hated his sisters in law Valene,Pam & Donna, hated Cliff Barnes, Clayton & Dusty Farlow, his two brother in laws in Halleyville, the Halleyville Sheriff.
@@christophers.o622 J.R. definitely didn't hate Bobby for a brother despite often being at odds with one another to understand each other at the same time more than they cared to admit. And it's not like J.R. hated just about anybody else to got close enough aside from That Barnes Family of course for good reason. Cliff Barnes having been a low budget J.R. wannabe for example. Some others he just wouldn't trust like the Farlows, especially when mother Miss Ellie married again to Clayton as though it would tarnish daddy Jock's legacy on Southfork. No, J.R. didn't hate some of everybody else like that, and screw Dusty to never got important enough to begin to just been one of Sue Ellen's side lovers.
yes, but J.R. did the opposite of what we thought he would do. We thought he bought the publishing house to shut down publication of the book, when in reality , he just wanted to make a profit off Val's novel
I love J.R there will never be another like him, or another show like these old shows! Writers know it to that's why they play reality shows cause none are good enough to compete with shows like this!!
like a meeting of two titans.....Lilimae Clements and JR Ewing! Would have killed for a scene with Miss Ellie and Lilimae....imagine Lillimae visiting Southfork.
JR: When's Gary coming home? Valene: Gary and I aren't together anymore (turns head in shame). JR: What? Valene: Gary and I have separated!!! JR: Separated? Ummm, separated from what? Lol 😂😂😂 The Shade of it all... 😂
Remember when she went to Jill Bennet's funeral and was throwing dirt on the grave? I could imagine Val doing something crazy like that at his funeral after all the shit he did to her over the years.
3:19 "You'll probably need a glass, won't you?" Said as she is silent weighing the possibility of dumping the pitcher of iced tea over his head. And then at the end, Lilimae coming in with that lamp with the ruffled shade that looked like it came out of a skit on "Hee-Haw".
Could you blame her for feeling that way?..separating Lucy from her & Gary, knowing Lucy was accustomed to a lavish lifestyle in Dallas...not to mention his sarcastic conversations w/ her.
No it didn't. If you watched the Dallas episode that introduced Knots, Bobby explains that he bought a bunch of houses in California to re-sell them to finance his construction business, but his business didn't actually build the houses. He just re-sell them for profit. The house Gary and Val lived in was one of the house and Miss Ellie bought it from Bobby for Gary and Val.
Oh man. Those were the days. They made great TV shows in those days. Brilliant TV, Why don't they do shows or sitcoms now days that are good and want to come back and watch it the next evening.
You can't be serious (as John Mcenroe would say). JR was rotten to the core, with few redeeming qualities and the fault lies at the hands of Jock (who went way overboard in training him to win at all costs) and Miss Ellie (who was too weak and acquiescing to Jock's dominance and I would say borderline mental abuse of JR).
im so sorry to hear about that; bullshit, J.R probably wanted to do cartwheels when he left knowing how much he despised Valene and then go to the dealership and shake Gary's hand
Richard did look rather puny next to JR & I could be mistaken, but it looked like this was one of those rare scenes where JR was wearing dress shoes & not his infamous boots & if so, would mean that Richard was indeed very short in stature.
Any scene between JR and Valene is a scene to be watched. The chemistry between these two was off the charts. There's another similar scene to this, I believe earlier in the series where JR shows up, does some similar type of talk, but he's hungry. Val makes him a tuna sandwich. It goes something like....JR: What do you call this stuff? Val: Tuna. Fish. JR. Well you sure do have a way with tuna fish.
JR is such a magnificent bastard. I miss him.
I miss him too
Same here
I always liked when someone said J.R., you bastard!

....and asks Val, "when is Gary getting home FROM WORK"?

“Never tell the truth when a good lie will do!” -JR Ewing
So well acted by both Joan and Larry!
I Luv how Jr was always needling Valene😂
If you feeling good, JR kicks you down in one minute!
Never will be another jr, great actor, best soap actor ever
I loved how JR ends up buying the publishing house that bought Valene’s book! Perfection! Hood ole JR!
yes, but J.R. did the opposite of what we thought he would do. We thought he bought the publishing house to shut down publication of the book, when in reality , he just wanted to make a profit off Val's novel
It was really nice of J.R. to drop by for a visit while he was in town...
I love J.R there will never be another like him, or another show like these old shows! Writers know it to that's why they play reality shows cause none are good enough to compete with shows like this!!
Everyone is just second best in Knotts Landing when JR is around
LOL, @2:18 even after he "felt bad" about Gary and Val separating J.R continued to walk in without being invited. LOVED THIS SHOW.
J.R. really had a way of making Poor Val's skin crawl.
I Need a Drink.. I'm Sorry I didn't Mean to Say that Either....... Lol Classic J R
friendly little neighborhood you got here
“Well, don’t just stand there with your mouth hanging open.” LOL.
like a meeting of two titans.....Lilimae Clements and JR Ewing! Would have killed for a scene with Miss Ellie and Lilimae....imagine Lillimae visiting Southfork.
"Uh.....separated from what?"....LOL 2:02
JR was truly one of a kind
It was empty when she bought it in the room.
JR: When's Gary coming home?
Valene: Gary and I aren't together anymore (turns head in shame).
JR: What?
Valene: Gary and I have separated!!!
JR: Separated? Ummm, separated from what? Lol 😂😂😂 The Shade of it all... 😂
J.R. being coy.
JR was the master!!!!!
i loved JR totally and deliberately effin up the name of val's book.
I noticed that Val didn't make it to JR's funeral in the new series ...Lol.
Remember when she went to Jill Bennet's funeral and was throwing dirt on the grave? I could imagine Val doing something crazy like that at his funeral after all the shit he did to her over the years.
@@fwdthinker Valene probably would’ve pissed on JR’s grave!
I'm surprised anybody was there lol
R.I.P. Julie Harris, December 2, 1925 - August 24, 2013
this was one of the comic reliefs in Knots Landing.
Lol...a Playboy centerfold for a driver!
It should be a crime for J.R. to take so many swipes at Val in one scene ... the "compliments" are all backhanded lol
LOL, J.R. rubs it in to Val that she and Gary separated by pretending he didn't know when Richard just told him. Classic J.R.!
Who here thinks Valene spit in that glass when she was in the kitchen? LOL Took her a bit of time to get it LOL
You’d think jr would be smarter than than to ask valene for a drink.
Who could blame her if she did!
Or doused it with some Pine Sol.
This makes me laugh so hard. J.R. Just goes over there to fuck with her. I love how he makes her explain the separation multiple times.
I just love me some JR
They had great chemistry!
It's always bad news when JR Ewing pays a visit.
i think thats an 80s Chrysler Imperial limo...fkn RARE car
I allways loved when those two went at
morgan8757 You gotta love how Valene has no problem standing up to J.R. Ewing.
This is a classic I love JR and Val
Lol....JR OWNS this scene. Larry was the best!! Missed so much already.
Val didn't have the style and fashion of Sue Ellen and Pam, but I always thought she had those "country girl good looks" LOL
She reminds me poor Joan kennedy.
But then again she was married to the " Black sheep" of the family.. XD
LOL. This is very true!!!
I'm just amazed that it took her almost 3 minutes to close that damn door.
"Separated from what?",,,,,lol
It was implied on Dallas JR was the reason for Gary and Vals troubles but Knots Landing showed they had plenty of other issues besides JR.
I guess Val meant it, when she once told Gary if J.R. dies, she certainly cannot mourn him.
Could you blame her for feeling that way?..separating Lucy from her & Gary, knowing Lucy was accustomed to a lavish lifestyle in Dallas...not to mention his sarcastic conversations w/ her.
This is classic JR
Love the interaction between Richard and J.R.
Bobby Ewing's construction company built knots landing lol
No it didn't. If you watched the Dallas episode that introduced Knots, Bobby explains that he bought a bunch of houses in California to re-sell them to finance his construction business, but his business didn't actually build the houses. He just re-sell them for profit. The house Gary and Val lived in was one of the house and Miss Ellie bought it from Bobby for Gary and Val.
Joan Had A Body!🔥🔥 She Was A Marathon Runner in Real Life.
I bet you he was totally doing that chauffeur, by the way.
Of course!!
Larry Hagman was such a natural in this role…he and Joan were natural adversaries and damn they lit it up.
I love these clips....
I love this part.
Beware smiling, smooth talking Texas oil tycoons showing up on your doorstep! You know there's gonna be trouble!
I wonder, did Val spit in that glass, before she poured the ice tea in it?
Joan is a great actress! This is so funny
Love them together.
Oh man. Those were the days. They made great TV shows in those days. Brilliant TV, Why don't they do shows or sitcoms now days that are good and want to come back and watch it the next evening.
JR WAS actually a good guy who had to do bad stuff
You can't be serious (as John Mcenroe would say). JR was rotten to the core, with few redeeming qualities and the fault lies at the hands of Jock (who went way overboard in training him to win at all costs) and Miss Ellie (who was too weak and acquiescing to Jock's dominance and I would say borderline mental abuse of JR).
No one has to do bad stuff...he was a rotten SOB
You must be a flying monkey for a narcissist in your life
They have been renewed for a second season (airing in March next year) but I haven't heard any word about Gary & Val... I would love to see that also!
Thanks for the clip. I love it JR has a female Limo driver, what a surprise. lol
JR, the uber troll! :))
im so sorry to hear about that; bullshit, J.R probably wanted to do cartwheels when he left knowing how much he despised Valene and then go to the dealership and shake Gary's hand
JR rules..............!!!!
Look how short Richard is compared to J.R. Richard was supposed to be the J.R. character of Knots but when that didn't work, they created Abby.
Richard did look rather puny next to JR & I could be mistaken, but it looked like this was one of those rare scenes where JR was wearing dress shoes & not his infamous boots & if so, would mean that Richard was indeed very short in stature.
real life is a hell of a lot more interesting than fiction, you val ene should know that better than anyone, lol
I wish there are more Val's in real life.
this was the funniest thing ive seen in a long time..'this room..its so..you'..lol
God I loved JR!
Avery has shook hands with both JR Ewing and Tony Soprano
Rip to a great actor Larry Hangman we still miss you
Val should have gotten a restraining order against JR's trifling ass!!!!
Valene is dressed as though she's ready to change oil in her car!
Jumpsuits were popular with women in the late 70's and early 80's.
Ewwwww JR is in top form here!
like they say when a big fish eats a little fish , there's blood in the water , lol
Joe was really dumb. He just gave J.R. the info he needed. I guess J.R. could have nosed around and dug it up but Joe just fed it to him.
...too bad JR didn't drop a big check on him and hire him to be his Knots Landing informant
I liked the comment about that awful lamp. Lol. Val was so submissive with the iced tea. Hahaha.
Too submissive...like others commented, she probably spit in the glass before serving the tea...
Good ol' jr!!!!! 👈👍
Isn't that Gary's brother uhhh What's his name? 🤣🤣🤣
Val should keep her front door locked .Any "idiot" could walk in.
Larry Was Hilarious!Cornpune?😂
Crude Porn, lol

I remember this episode JR invaded the da hood LOL!
I don't understand how Gary cheated on Valene and moved in with Abby and lived across the street. smh.
It was only temporary. Gary and Abby moved out of the cul-de-sac shortly afterwards when he got his inheritance from Jock.
JR knew how to destroy people- be polite, smooth and fake as shit...
The music was used on Dallas in the 1982 episode, The Wedding
Surprisingly, Joe Cooper (Karen's brother) was there to comfort Val following her split from Gary (which allowed him to move in with Abby).
J.R. boned Abby first before Gary even touched her. And he lusted after Joe's sister Karen before that
"Surprise!"
'What brings you to Knots Landing?' 'Just slumming.'
He's played many roles over the years, including Lee Harvey Oswald. Also appeared in Murder One and The Sopranos.
I wish JR and Gary could have gotten along better.
When someone is not glad to see you...
Jr is the best
So classic:)
I'm surprised Val didn't slam the door in JR's face when she answered it or faked she spilled the tea on him.
" you know when a big fish eats a little fish, theres blood in the water, you know what I mean"
Richard Avery is definitely a shorty.
That's why I thought when Gary sees Bobby, he should say "I thought you were dead!"
J.R is amazing, he knows info but plays as if he doesn’t know, or he it from people who are gullible to tell him.
March!
It's easy to be super confident when you are super rich.
Classic tv Series and great television show something that's needed now on television reboot knots landing
God and the music is real close to the same they used on Dallas.
True is stranget than fiction
