- 1836, the province of Texas, under the possession of Mexico, rebels against the Mexican dictatorial authority and proclaims its independence. The General Sam Houston (Richard Boone) that commands the armed forces of Texas, is pursued by Santa Ana's troops, far superior in number. Houston decides to take refuge behind the Rio Grande in order to quickly reform a bigger army.
However, Houston needs time, he entrusts the Colonel Travis the mission to stem the progression of the Mexican army. The colonel entrenches himself and his fellowmen, in an old mission half destroyed and transformed for the occasion into a fortress. For 13 days, the legendary Davy Crockett (John Wayne), Jim Bowie (Richard Widmark) William Travis (Laurence Harvey) and 184 hardy Americans and Texicans hold the Alamo in hopeless combats against the massive Mexican army.
They know that the final assault will turn to a massacre, but they are ready to write down with their blood one of the most heroic pages of American history.
The Alamo was considered by John Ford as a masterpiece and ranks among cinema’s great classic and stirring movies.

Perfect direction of an iconic scene - leading up to one of the best lines in cinema following the assault; the one including : "... I was proud of 'em..."
"I was proud of 'em" got my attention too.
John Wayne actually spent money to build a replica of the Alamo and village in order to shoot this movie. His money ran out and batjac decided to pick up the rest of the cost. Everyone "brroke even " at the box office. The Alamo still stands
I like the scene after this when the Texans talk how proud they are of the courage of the men they were killing. Very human moment and respectful. Especially when for a movie made in 1960.
that this movie never won a Oscar for the action scene alone is incredible.
Y'know what's sad? It's March 6, 2022: the anniversary of the Fall of the Alamo, we have a war going on and nobody is remembering the Alamo, not even Google who'll post birthday reminders of some random ppl I've never heard of nor care.
I really REALLY want to see this full movie maybe on Prime.
The one with Billy Bob Thornton was much better and more accurate.
It's on tubi
U can get a used DVD collection with this and 2 other films with john Wayne for a couple pounds
The zero recoil when they fire the cannons really irks my inner gunner.
Same here but I think we’re supposed to assume that they fixed the guns the way Santa Anna’s gunners probably would have actually done for this battle since it was a relatively long siege
Let's Really change the pace !! With the Love and Gelato !

Is this taken from the recent MGM HD airing? Looks nice.
J'ai regardé ce film depuis 20 ans et j'aime toujours autant

Tactical brilliance, slowly walking toward a fort without scaling ladders, wouldn’t you say?
Santa anna was testing out the alamo defences for the main attack, he didn't know what type of armourments they had in the alamo.
What i will say was it did not really happen that way.
This is a movie they didn't actually attack like that. They attacked at night and only lost 60 soldiers and 200 wounded.
@@Elitecommando501 Actually he did send out a probing force first to measure the resistance of the Texians of which this is basically a super exaggeration of. In reality it was like 200 or so men and the Mexicans lost a dozen or so and the Texians lost none.
Its Hollywood. The Mexican army didn't lose even half the amount of men shown in this scene in the entire siege and storming of El Alamo
Davy crockett hero
All jokes aside, but does that gun that the red shirt guy uses at 1:50,it kinda looks like a mosin nagant but with a flint and lock on it instead of bolt action.
Most of the rifles used in this were trap door Springfield model 88's mocked up to look like flint locks. Most likely because Wayne got a good deal on them and it's WAY easier to deal with a trap door than a musket in general.
Ok then.
wish I would have been alive during John Waynes time. we need him back.
I like it
Could you please post the entire final battle scene of this movie
I wish I could, copyrights

the alamo the fight for freedom which made America great ❤
While definitely not the most accurate movie, and what can you expect from a 1960's Western style movie, but a good one none of the less. Plenty of action, great cinematography, decent acting, a lot of a really nice looking set work. But there are some parts that are either weird or border line offensive. Like Jim Bowie having an 8 barreled gun? Also how nicely the slaves are treated in this compared to reality. Also how confident and experienced Travis acts when he's supposed to be new to command and inexperienced. They also try to hold it to the 185 vs 5000 myth when Santa Ana's Army at the siege was actually only 1,800.
Could you please post the entire final battle scene of this movie the ending of the movie
I can't due to copyrights ;(
Not especially historically accurate, but a heck of a good movie.
One thing I have never understood, in several scenes, such as at 1:53 in this clip, the Mexican troops are shown carrying the French tricolor. Did they possibly just use stock footage from another movie set in the Maximillian period? Or did John Wayne and his staff just not know any better?
This flag is often used in the movie, you can see it in green in a trailer scene. Its just a problem of brightness and the colour is more cyan than just green!
If you watch the documentary on the making of this film, you will find that John Wayne did have a Historian on the set with him but he must have been super quiet about everything or John Wayne just ignored him. The only thing I know of where he listened to the Historian was when he told John Wayne that General Houston did not have a beard that we knew of and the actor playing him had one. In short Wayne actually listened and had the actor to shave his beard off
@@isaacwhite9255 Actually, France supplied a great deal to Mexico, and in a few years, would support an Austrian emperor on the Mexican throne.
Naw if this movie was that historically inaccurate, then Wayne would have carried his big loop handled Winchester 94 into battle as he did in Commancheros! Which was set in the mid to late 1840s.
Henry didn't even have designs for the lever action repeater on file until after 1854
Most of the movie was dialogue leading up to the battle itself.
It's called Alamo village, in bracketsville Texas

Arriba Mexico
How accurate is this movie?
Why so many different uniforms?
Artillery had their own uniforms
Calvary had their own uniforms
Infantry regiments had different uniforms back then so their commanders to see them and direct them in the smoke of battle. That is one big reason armies had bright uniforms and big regimental flags.
Also each infantry unit had different jobs.
Some were light
Some were heavy
Some were fusiliers
The Mexicans that looks Brits is called The Red Fusiliers Uniform.
Some of them stoled the French men, they are called Mexican Riflemen.
Some of cavs are like the Brits, too, are called Mexican Light Dragoon, Hussars, Flag Bearer, or Heavy Dragoon Uniform.
Some of the cavs are also like American or French Calvary. They are called Mexican Lancers Uniform.
Some of the artillerymen look like French soldiers, they are called Mexican Light or Heavy Artillerymen Uniform.
Some of the Mexican infantries are Marines that look like from The Russian Revolution or Civil War.
Some of officers/general look the same from Marins de L'Garde during Napoleonic Wars. Are called Mexican Marine Officers/Generals.
And many more...
This should be fibal battle it looks like it

You know why Santa Anna only invaded the Alamo with 4000 Mescans? He only brought 3 cars!

Dude, are you kidding me? The internet astounds me with its stupidity. How the hell do you not know that this is Siege of Paris during the Franco-Prussian war? Simply disappointing.
Zoltan Gyongyossy I mean you weren’t wrong on ye first question, the civil war was starting to reach its peek when the Alamo war started
@@SomeDudeArmyMen you stupid fool, this is obviously the battle of Passchendale during the First World War
If I could I would have gone back in time and saved Alamo I would have bought civil war Gatling guns Napoleon cannons with canister shot mini Gatling guns And 15,000 Confederate soldiers
UH, the Alamo was fought in 1836. The Gatling gun was not invented until 1861, (by a man named Gatling).
The alamo film is brilliant and now there were white people in this period but had to there white and the. Natives
This movie was so stupid, that wasn't they way it really happen. It was more like the wako incident with guy David what's his name. The Mexican army killed the woman and children. They where just like David during the wako incident. Only difference was they where killed by there own people this world is messed up. The Alamo they where heroes and the wako they where put out as wackos, messed up.
the 2004 movie is a much more accurate depiction
It is difficult to glean anything from that word salad of a comment, but one thing does stick out - did you really say that the Mexicans killed women and children ?? Everyone know they were allowed to leave unharmed before and even after the battle! This movie gets almost everything else wrong, but that detail was absolutely spot on.
@@harrisonc985
Th3 2004 version is a much better movie and gets almost all of the historical facts right! The women and chikdren were allowed to leave during the siege, and that part was (correctly) depicted in both versions.
