Hi Mav! Welcome to Iceland and I hope you are enjoying your stay!
I just wanted to add in that it is not at all recommended to walk a lot on the moss. It's a very delicate thing and takes a good while for it to grow. When stepped on the marks will be left there for a long time and potentially destroy it's growth in some places and also it can be very dangerous since moss doesn't need soil to grow, especially a lot of the moss that you see here in Iceland. It can grow on top of newly formed brittle lava rocks -making a thin layer on top, and in between them .There could be a huge hidden crack that could lead miles down and it's not that easy for the rescue team (Björgunarsveit Islands) to be able to save people from, please be safe!

I also thought you couldn't camp outside of designated campgrounds with a car setup like that.
Great and correct comment reg the moss. Might add that the fine for driving at 105kmh (max legal speed 90) is just under 350 USD, and that wild-camping in any form of motorized form is completely illegal.

I had the privilege to travel around Iceland for 2 weeks exactly 4 years ago. Coolest experience I've ever had. Watching this makes me miss it so much. So glad to see this!

I spent a year (1985) in Iceland as an Air Force Sergeant stationed at Keflavik Naval Air Station. By day I worked in budget Office and in the evening I worked in the Enlisted Club . The Icelandic people I worked with were super folks and I became close friends with them. The base has since been closed but living there for a year was a great experience! 😄😄😎

Reykjavik means “smoky bay”, named by the Vikings for the steam that rises from the geothermal springs. I visited two of Iceland’s islands last year. Beautiful, pristine place. ❤️❤️

Awesome video. My Dad was in the Navy and Stationed in Iceland from November 1990 - June of 1993. Unfortunately, I was to young to remember alot of it, but now can see it from your perspective.

Studied abroad in Iceland during college. We went for three weeks during the summer and it was a geology class. We had a tour guide that turned down the opportunity to be Tom cruises tour guide while we were there. Most amazing three weeks of my life!

Welcome! Please don’t walk on the moss, it’s delicate and takes many years to grow. Off-roading is illegal and carries a hefty fine and public shaming. You can camp anywhere for one night, but it’s polite to ask permission on private land. (Someone was asking about that)

Welcome to Iceland! I like your video and definitely the way to go to rent a Jimny ;) I really wish you would've pin pointed your locations similar to your Japan video. Could be helpful for those who wanna travel the country. Also, the "river water" is perfectly safe to drink. My rule of thumb is if the water is running down from a mountain it's drinkable and probably better tap water. And please do not buy the bottled water. You can get water anywhere. Enjoy your trip!

Hope you enjoyed your stay in Iceland. I just want to point out three things.
Dont tread on the moss. Small fractures in the moss can take about 70-100 years to grow back in our climate so please leave no trace.
Offroading is illegal in Iceland and also wildcamping while sleeping in anything which is carried or towed by a motorvehicle. Offroading can carry heavy fines as well as damage the environment which we try to keep pristine. Because of extremely short summers the vegetation takes a long time to recover. And because of high winds in Iceland, any exposed soil like sand or dirt can cause erosion in the surrounding area making the damage much more extensive than just where you left your tire tracks. It will also cause water to find its path along the tracks you left behind and the water will act like a knife through butter in the soil creating large deep cuts where the tracks are left.
There are still tracks visible and are much larger than when they were made several years ago because of this.
Tourists that come here need to understand that they are travelling in an area which is extremely delicate and vulnerable. Why do people think the footpath to the edge of the canyon in Fjaðrárgljúfur was closed off. That is because the footpatch could not handle the pedestrian traffic and was being damaged. Imagine what a vehicle can do....
Yeah, cooking in the wind is always fun! You could see the flame completely deflecting from the pan!
People always under estimate the capabilities of a Jimny, give it a lift and a decent pair of tyres and it's basically a mountain goat.
Did that with mine, can attest, nearly unstoppable little things, I'll never sell it.
