Simple Trick for Perfect Carpet Binding

When installing binding on carpet the nap can push and deform, getting in the way and creating bulk on your finished project. To fix this issue I used to trim the carpet with my scissors before sewing the binding. Now that I've figured out this trick - I get a clean, consistent lines every time!
Just grab some cheap hair clippers and run the clippers along the edge of the carpet before binding. Using the clippers allows for a consistent angle, making for a clean chamfer and easy sewing! We actually haven't tried this on loop carpet, but we think it should work. Try a test piece before trying it on your project.

The carpet being used in the video is aviation carpet. The backing used is nibbed back rubber mat.
