This brilliantly animated short movie succinctly captures the emotion and life after death. The son has much generation gap from his parents which gets more evident with his lack of interest in the death ceremony and the rituals that a son must follow. He is also skeptical of the order and customs surrounding death. The son is in deep remorse and has vicarious experiences of the pain his father had to suffer in his very last days. He is also miffed other people's lack of empathy as their thoughts are more into the rituals and formalities of the event. The movie goes on to show that life moves on once you're dead and what will remain of you are just your bones in the incinerator.

_Losing my papa half a decade ago, I feel I can relate to the story like no one other, and thus being my personal favorite short film, I insist that I make my significance in this comment section_
My POV about this cunningly executed film, that you might have missed()
#1) *Babu loves his father* :
The most obvious deduction one can draw
    *Proof
0:41 : Babu wants to be with his dad at his end.
1:23 : Insists his father's name to be spoken appropriately
    3:31 : That delay!
    5:00 : No caption needed
8:15 : that flashback in Babu subconscious mind
#2) *Babu is an atheist* :
Maybe he is too young for this or is just upset from God that He snatched Babu's father from him, yet, he reluctantly performs each ritual for the sake of his helpless mom and dead father.
    _whole film is its proof_
    #3) *Responsiblity* :
To be honest, this whole film is all about the responsibility enforced into Babu after his dad's death, making his age gap (from his dad) and atheistic even worse.
    Responsiblities entitled to Babu:
    2:25
    4:36
    5:28
8:41 : The pension scene is so cleverly overwhelmed. That's a son's duty now on!
#4) *Irritated by hypocrite people around him* :
No person was captured compensating Babu for his loss, everyone seemed to be proclaimed by rituals, kriyas.
    *proof*
This fact can easily be verified by deciphering the scene 2:09 to 2:29
    *Life moves ON* :
despite all the affection for his father, he knew he has to move.
    -Spicing agents in film-
    # Messages scene at 7:43 :
Those messages can be read and
    illustrated as :
Babu has a job in Bombay, to which he has to return ASAP. So this point can be added to "Responsibility" and "life moves on".
Furthermore, him ignoring all messages, can be decoded as " more responsibilities awaits"
Animation : I don't think I would have enjoyed it even half of this if it were not animated
I have an elder brother, who is literally BABU after my dad's death.
He grew me up. Now I know how he must be feeling
I don't know how to thank the creators

A day will come when we will all experience this first hand(if we haven't already). All the fathers of the world that ever lived have all died or will soon die. Ordinary sorrows that we cannot escape. When I was a kid, I would sometimes have bad thoughts about my parents that'd freak me out. You took me back to that place..
    Great film..thank you.

Loved every detail of it. The film feels very personal to director Somnath Pal (Paul), one has to assume this was a cathartic release for him to express his love/hate relationship with specific personal attachments. Sound Design is just exceptional. The film overall gave me vibes of European, Japanese, Iranian and Independent Indian Cinema, which is a positive factor. Truly Inspiring.

This is absolutely BRILLIANT!! The animation, the screenplay, the dialogues (so real, so day to day, no additional drama), and the Story! Amazing!! This is so mundane on the first look, but so hardly it hits on your heart. While in our day-to-day lives we are so damn busy in judging others; stories like these compel us to wait for a moment, and judge ourselves!!
Thanks a lot to makers and thank you for the upload.
Loads of best wishes for your future endeavors 🙂

The movie is nice but it could have been better. What a sarcasm in my life when i watched it's trailer after a week on 1st November my father had passed away. Done all the rituals. Seen a person to die slowly infront of my eyes helplessly. Carried his coffin on flight which he was supposed to be beside us but he was traveling with us but not besides us. Somewhere in the dark chamber of the cargo he was sleeping and locked in the closest chamber. After landing went to the cargo with the papers in hand to take my father no his human remains. Now in the coffin it was labelled now Late before his name.Signed off all the formalities and now pushing the trolley with his coffin to the hearse van and put him up. On the glass box..sliently in the mid night he is travelling towards his home all alone sleeping in the deep slumber. Reaching home everyone was there to meet him for the last time to bid adieu. Now his last wish to enter his home is fulfilling but he can't feel his home. His coffin wrapped with cellophane and locked with screws is being opened in the drawing room where he used to spend most of his time of the day. But this time he is not sitting in his chair but sleeping in the coffin. Now his last journey from his home has started to the final destination for cremation. In the crematorium. All wearables were removed. Me and maa for the last time help him in the task which he used to find it difficult for sometime. Now oiled him with ghee and fed him last food into his mouth. I kissed him in his forehead for the last time and touched his feet to bid adieu forever. Took him near the burning chamber and then slowly pushed him in the fire while he was in deep slumber. Now the door of the chimney is falling down and slowly he disappeared infront of us forever... Helplessly we all were standing and seeing him disappear in the burning closet....after about 50 mins we handed over with his ashes. My father to whom I will not be able call him baba again..

This is exactly what i went through and much much more 2 weeks back; same generation gap, same pointless rituals, same lack of empathy and hurriedness to perform the rites, same disregard to take a few moments to really mourn the loss, same extended care-taking and yet wasting away of the body, same unnatural formalities of human existence. I can't believe Chaitanya Tamhane and Somnath Paul made a movie about it in 2017. Goes on to show how common it is for the society at large to disregard true feelings and perform a role-play ritual of life and even death when nothing remains.

Absolutely stunning storytelling and direction. The animation is mind blowing, it feels so good to see such content coming out! Finally!
What I felt though - was, as much as the story perfectly captures how the son feels remorse and the society cares more about formalities than the loss of the person, somewhere it felt like something is missing in the film. It's probably that in his solitary moments, more grief was expected. I'm not sure if the filmmaker wanted to convey that the son felt remorse, or not, and I think this was crucial to establish in the storyline.
Regardless, beautiful execution, and loved the subtle details like the person recording the death in the van, and him eating food during the funeral. Those details say a lot about our society and our priorities.
