    When I studied in music school 50 years ago,I learn what was called the A &B forms of rootless voicings. I drilled them a lot,so use all the time. Thank you for pointing out some the other inversions and uses. I need to me more mindful of those. Happy to practice

    Hello Adam! You may remember me as your sax student in Ft. Lauderdale 12 years ago (Mark). I am about to improvise over "My Favorite Things" on my tenor and I thought you looked familiar! I have been playing non stop for 12 years. Moved to alto in 2016 and tenor last August. I just play tenor now. Being retired allows me to practice 3 hours a day. I knew you played piano but hopefully that tenor is around there somewhere! We left FL right after Irma in 2017 for just north of Atlanta. Hope you are doing well.

    Great stuff! I just ordered your essential voicings and rootless voicings package since you had a great sale on ;) Are both volumes similar in terms of level? Should I begin with 1 or 2 or can jump all over depending of what interests me? Keep up the great work!

    • @mDecksMusic
      @mDecksMusic  Před rokem +1

      Both volumes are similar. One is for major keys and two for minor keys. You can do C major from volume 1 and then C minor from vol.2 if you want

    Confusing wording on the dominant 7th chord: You are replacing the 5th with the 13th, but the way you said it sounds like replacing the 13 with the 5th (which makes no sense because the 13th is not a routine part of the dominant 7th chord.)

    • @mDecksMusic
      @mDecksMusic  Před 9 měsíci

      Point taken. Yes we're replacing the 5 with the 13.

    Regarding what the beginning of this video contains, It would be great to explain to people that the rhythm is actually 9/8 ((jazz waltz). I hear piano playing in 9/8, as well as drums. If the piano music was written in 3/4 we would have to use triplets where the eighth notes appear since I hear that the first note of the two played eighth notes is worth half of the second, therefore it is an eighth note with a quarter note within the measure of the black triplet this is very common just like blues which is written in 12/8 it is used to play it in 4/4.

    • @mDecksMusic
      @mDecksMusic  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Alberto, rather than 9/8 is better to think of 3/4 with swung eighth-notes. It's a conceptual difference that allows the player to shift the swing of the upbeat eighth-notes to their liking. You can play the eighth-notes more or less even depending on your style.
