  • This is a video made from photos that I took while restoring my Impala at home. I had to learn a lot of skills, and by a lot of tools and parts, but I finally finished after 3 years. The car was very rusty, and was probably too far gone, but with enough determination you can fix anything. Please like and subscribe for more great Impala videos.

    Great to see you bring this ‘65 back to life. You did an amazing job. I know how much time and effort you put in it because I did the same thing with my ‘65. I just started out with a great solid car. My hat off to you for what you did.

    Hey brother I have a 65 just like you ..but I can’t seem to find answers anywhere..at 15:07 it shows before you put the center trim molding on the trunk ..I’m trying to take mines out and replace it but it has those plastic little anchors on the inside of the trunk ..how did that work for you and what did you have to do ? Really appreciate your help man

      Those plastic this are nuts. You just take them off with a deep well socket.. you have to take the corner pieces off to gain access to the corner trim nuts

    I just started on mine tonight.. It's crazy that you said to start on the brakes and suspension first, b/c that's what I'm doing. I feel like I will come out cheaper if I do all the work myself. I'm no pro, but it can't help but to try. That's why I like watching these videos, it gives me hope.

    It looks like your paint job turned out amazing especially if it was the first you’ve sprayed a car but from the video your sprayed it in sections which was probably a good idea I’m fixing to attempt to paint my 65ss it had very little rust just some in the front and back glass channels my question is what kind of gun did you use and what kind of paint did you lay down thanks

      I just watched a lot of CZcams videos on painting. You need a fairly large compressor as it takes a lot of volume to paint. I hope you have great success

    Wow. I saw your other video and wondered what you had to start with. That is impressive and inspiring. My kids are about out of college and I can see retirement in a few years. In the '60s and '70s my favorite uncle ran a body shop and garage. My cousins were dirt-track stock car racers. All of them Chevy guys. We spent a lot of time riding in Uncle Joe's Impalas and I think I can take on a restoration. I've DIY'd all my car and motorcycle maintenance for over 40 years and think I could pull it off. Great job on yours! Subscribed!

    That's a darn good job restoring it! I found one couple of blocks from my place along with a 68 SS. Both garage for some 30 years.. bought both for 18k.. all they needed and cleaning, buffing paint, tune up, change fluids and tires and brakes. Sold them both.. 65 for 24k and 68 for 30k. Just picked up a 69 custom for 15 hundred.. needs interior and paint from originalowner.. 61k mile original runs and drives like a charm. Already got reproduction vinyl cloth interior. Now searching for painter.. some want 15k.. I laughed 😅, I'm not asking for show diamonds and pearl's.. I figure to spend no more than 3k for paint after blocking is finished.

    Great job restoring your impala. I'm getting ready to start mine and was wondering how hard was it to change the cowl piece under the windshield? That the only major rust I'm seeing on mine...also where did you get the seat skins from?

    • @ImpalaCadillacRestoModDIY
      @ImpalaCadillacRestoModDIY  Před 3 lety +1

      Changing the cowl piece was slow, but really no harder than any of the other metal work. I had to create the part that the windshield from metal from the rear quarter panel of a donor car. I bought the seat skins from eBay. They are all made by pui

    You did such an amazing job! My question is did you have any of these skills before you started? I have a 69 Impala and a 65 Biscayne and paying the mechanic to do everything is getting too expensive, plus I want the satisfaction of fixing it up myself but I'm just intimidated

      Don't be intimidated. No one will put in as much care as you will. Watch CZcams, practice, make mistakes, and learn. Like Jason, I'm not a mechanic, but with a little aptitude, it should turn out great.

    How many times did you replace the rear quarters?

    • @ImpalaCadillacRestoModDIY
      @ImpalaCadillacRestoModDIY  Před 3 lety +1

      I first replaced the rear quarters with parts I cut from a parts car, and then I decided that the driver’s side was so bad, and would require so much body work that I just bought a new one. It was a lot less work to replace the entire quarter than do all the body work. I should have bought 2 new ones from the start. The guy I bought it from had butchered it up before I got it. I had to redo everything he had done.
