As a kid in the 90s, my parents always played the oldies station. This song was one of my favorites. Even though there's nothing very suggestive about the lyrics, it FELT like a raunchy song, almost too raunchy for radio, and I loved that. That growl!

My older sister had The Dave Clarks Five s records when I was a kid and I was like 8 or 9 maybe 10 when this song came out ! Ill be 66 April 22nd 2020 .
This is a great rock and roll song, so much energy! It packs a lot of material into just 1:37! Actually this is a cover of a 1961 hit by Chris Kenner. As much as I like Chris Kenner (from Kenner, LA, he also had the original Land Of 1000 Dances) the DC5 version is better
It's short, but it's packed with substance. Pure energy, this is rock and roll music in its rawest, most direct form. It presents 2 verses and 5 repetitions of the chorus in a mere 97 seconds! That's pretty impressive and I can't think of any other recording that's this resourceful.
@Theyrek Rnations That’s funny because Appleby’s used this is their TV ad back in the early 2000’s....Mike made some good money off of it! He thanked “Mr Appleby” when he sang the song at his Rock Engine concerts!
There's a new book available on Amazon; The Dave Clark Five (the forgotten group of the British Invasion). I read it, and so far I am the only reader who has reviewed it.
I’d be curious to hear them live cuz all there is on CZcams is them miming to recordings. Do the rest of them have the talent Mike Smith had? The great drumming here is NOT Dave Clark, but recording of an uncredited session drummer. What a fake-out!
I actually like both versions. They got the white groups to sing/steal the blacks songs because of the times and the white versions usually sucked but this is nice
Dave Clark never played the drums a session drum player did! name Bobby Graham. Dave was faking it. Dave was the manager, the rest of them could sing and play
@@budmangt2 So Bobby Graham claimed. He also said he played on Brian Poole and The Tremeloes records, something I know for a fact was a lie (I've interviewed all surviving members in some detail).
That voice coming out of that face!!! WOW. He was gorgeous with a great growly voice. RIP Mike Smith.
Mike had an amazing voice and a great stage presence! And yes, he was easy on the eyes! 🥰

Mike Smith is probably one of the three too rock singers of all time. He could sing them all. Eg. Glad all over -loud -to soft Because

Loud the way rock and roll is supposed to be.
