- What is the purpose of the $12,000 dollar Tiger Sport 850? To be a real bare-bone Adventure Sport Touring MACHINE. Is it fancy? In a lot of ways yes it is. If you have questions please watch the whole video and then feel free to ask them in the comments section. Here is the link to my Tiger 900 Rally Pro video review: • Triumph Tiger 900 Rall... and also feel free to check out the full written review of the 900 rally pro here: www.advpulse.c...
This was such a good review to watch Steve. My first time. Just bought a my23 850 , it looked good on paper, bought it over the phone,
Haven't seen one in the flesh. I've owned more bikes than I can remember started in 1972. I'm excited about picking up this demo in a week.
Factory QS and HG are being fitted and I've ordered a heap of off road parts for it. Selling a Triumph to buy a Triumph here in Australia.
You're right they're a good thing. I'll go back and watch more of your stuff. Thnx alot.
Mentioning me by name in the first minute will get you everywhere, Steve. I liked this bike. I sorta see it as a competitor for a T7 for someone who wants more of a street bike and less of an off-roader, but still doesn’t want to miss out and likes the nicer.
I hope ya had fun 😉
Even triumph didn't described this bike as much as u did ❤️ good work brother ❤️
Thanks man
@@steve_kamrad5216 ❤️
Yes, you can connect a on/off switch to the abs fuse (works in all bikes)👍
@@steve_kamrad5216 Can you use this also for daily city commute? Would you recommend it? TIA
@@ashish_amonkar this is a absolute city weapon but might be a little much to swing your leg over every day in city heat or traffic depending on the city, Philly will be fine, nyc.... might be a little extra. But then it has the ability to cross country tour no problem where something like a yamaha t7 or fz07 might be a little less up to the task of 500 mile days
Bought the 2022 850 Sport about a month ago and absolutely love it. . I've done almost all road miles so far...can't really comment too much on off-road capabilities... but plenty of power and very stable in turns and bends....Cruise control would be nice, but very fun, capable bike!
Congratulations! Yeah it's a lot of bike for the price
I know what you mean about " teary eyed " You really capture what its like to be a Tiger lover, something about these bikes. I have beat the piss out of my Tiger 800, single track, rock crawling, even enduro racing like you, not to mention several long distance trips. Never once has my Tiger failed me after 20K miles. Just like you I am so attached to my 800 because of what memories this bike has given me. Its like a moving story book. I will have a hard time parting with that bike. Also I know the KTM 790 and T7 are better off roaders but I am one gust of wind away from buying a 900 rally because I love the brand. Great video and good luck Tiger brother
Thank you Goon! Yeah the 900 is really really good
Finally someone who says "offroad" that is not on a gravel or dirt road (which is not 'off' road...).
Love your make it work attitude with stuff like ABS vs the people who will whine and count it out. Well done.
Dude! Thank you for this comment!
Wow this guy really knows how to give a review.
Ride it like you stole it and give me the good and the bad and the comparison to others.
Awesome job.
Thanks man. Appreciate the love
@@steve_kamrad5216 keep riding it like you stole it and let us know how it goes.👍
Hey Steve always trust your reviews 100% Just recently brought the new 900 Rally (due to no Rally pros in the country) I actually watched your rally 900 pro review in the shop on the sales guys laptop before I made the purchase. Yet to take it off road (apart from a blast on a few gravel roads near my home) but loving the bike so far comfortable even two up and a lot lighter and manoeuvrable than my old 1200 Tiger. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much
Wow, Steve, impressive!
I am trying to decide on my next bike, mainly for Touring around Europe, without getting worried about the occasional dirt track or bumpy forest road - just llike you described it at 14:11. So far, all the tests I saw on this one made me think it is good only for the road. Then I saw you doing the off-road bit here....! That really showed me what I needed to know! I can now tell that this bike can do more than I ever will do with it. So, thank you for this demonstration, Steve. Really appreciate it. Thanks from Germany. And Triumph owes you one.
A thumb up & subscribed!
(And your reference to "heavier Americans" really made me laugh. Never heard any tester consider this!)
Awe man. That's so great to hear! Yeah the front end will be twitchy offroad compared to a ktm 790 or something but the pay off is on road this bike is phenomenal!
V strom 1000
I LOVE my Tiger 850 Sport! I added the quickshifter (up and down) and it ups the fun factor that much more! I don't miss any of the farkle.
In my mind's eye Steve Kamrad would eat my dust and I absolutely need a rally pro... When I return to reality I ride mostly road, half the time 2 up. I reckon this is all the bike I need and the £4000 saved between the 2 bikes buys luggage, auxilliary lighting, riding courses, lots of fuel and some trips away. It's sadly time for me to move my Speed Triple on ( I've had her for 8 yearsand had lots of fun and adventures with her). Planning to order my 850 Sport in the new year. Thanks SK for an awesome review!!
Thank you and also get a dirt bike with all that savings
Hey Steve, Thanks for a great review of the Tiger 850. You help to give a better understanding on who this bike is for.
When the 850 came out, I couldn't see why someone would choose this over a 900GT PRO.
Your riding videos at the end were awesome especially those two little kids on mini bikes. That's how I started a long time ago... Great Memories.
Right in the feelings.
Francis here is my thought on the why 850 vs 900 rally. #1 weight, #2 my age, #3 price. I just got one and it is fantastic. No single tracks, but I did ride this past weekend on dirt and mud. Even a bunch of washout. It handled great for me. Yes, I would like the other features, but to me, not worth it for my budget...bought a throttle lock for interstate, not cruise, but hey, not as much cash out of pocket either...
I've been honestly considering this as my first ever road bike. I'm not new to motorcycling but this would be the first more than 300cc motorcycle for myself. Seems like a great value and your review was excellent! Cheers
A great starter bike for people who want to buy an off road capable bike but would never take them off-road. It's like why buy a top end dslr when you are only a beginner to photography. Triumph gave all the attention to the higher variant models. Great that you covered 850 sport in detail. Thanks!
Great analogy. Thanks for the comment and support
Your channel kicks ass!!
Thanks dude!
Enjoyed you review, Enjoyed the bit of off roading at the end. Great seeing the kids out on there own bikes. Great fun for them.
Thanks dude!
Looking at the gt pro to replace my 800gs. I couldn't find a decent video to give me a real idea what it may be like off road with the lower clearance. Your video answered my questions about the gtp better than any of the videos about it, thanks.

Can’t wait to see your review of the Tiger 660!!!
You gotta email triumph us and tell em
I really appreciate all the work that you did for this amazing video. Thanks for the great work from Chile
I appreciate you reaching out! Thank you and cheers
I have never been a triumph guy, but that is just the best sounding engine.
Oh the new t-plain triple is sooooooo good
In case the comment is still relevant….
• A quick shifter is indeed an option
for this bike
• The saddle has adjustability to two
positions, and a lower seat option is
also available, also with its own two
position adjustability.
So between the two seats there are
four positions ranging from 32+”
down to 29+”.
I do have a couple of questions:
1) Can you verify that applying either the brake lever or pedal converts the rear signal lights to auxiliary brake lights momentarily?
2) I have heard a horror review of someone who installed Hepco & Becker upper crash bars (the older and lighter model) only to have the key bolts shear off in the engine based mounting points. He seemed a credible reporter and insisted that there was only the lightest off-road duty employed and no drops.
So now I have become aware of conflicting opinions as to whether upper crash bars are necessary at all for any riding save perhaps for truly hard core work…..weighing the potential cost of damaged tanks and plastics against the possibility of cracked engine blocks, etc.?
I would be grateful for your take on such.
Cheers from BC, Canada!
I don't know about the rear lights but I say no, hepco stuff is from China. Check the skid plate vs a ebay China one. Upper Bars are necessary to preserve upper plastics but I think no matter what the rad guards will take a hit

Damn these good videos just keep coming up!!! what an honest review! Can't wait for NH winter to be over
Soon it will be over!
I liked your review A LOT! Cool to see someone talking about a bike they are passionate about. I feel the same about the early VStroms.
Those do have special places in people's hearts
Would I be far off in saying this would be like a nicer in between strom 650 and 1050? Was just checking one out and without riding it that's where my mind is.
@@jeffloucks2120 this is a way nicer option than a vstrom! Either of them. By a lot.
You made my Saturday morning! Thanks buddy, great review

As a fellow owner of a Rally Pro, I agree with tachometer comments. To be honest, the entire TFT display needs work. Bluetooth connections are spotty at best.
That being said, incredible motorcycle and great at the things I bought it for, not the display.
I have watched several reviews of this bike in the past few days and yours was the best by far! Super helpful information and great to see how well the bike handles conditions rougher than where I will (intentionally) ride it. Just talked to my local dealer, and he is tracking one down for me. (There aren't many around at this point, and I can see why.) Thanks!
Any time and if you can't find a 850 I might have options
@@steve_kamrad5216 Thanks, Steve. If my dealer (in Portland, OR) runs into problems, I will get back in touch. Much appreciated!
@@raycummings8754 absolutely but the triumph Seattle gang should be able to sort you out! Tell em I sent you
@@steve_kamrad5216 Great to know - thanks, Steve!
I can see the Triumph people being a little nervous watching you single tracking their road oriented bike .... great review!!!
Yeah they trust me but not all the way
I wholeheartedly agree about the Tacho display on the Tiger. It is NOT good. It takes up way too much UI space on the large screen and yet still doesn't display a good representation of the information it needs to. Look to the Indian TFT, or the BMW GS for examples of how to display a tacho properly. I LOVE thisd bike and ideally I'd love to own a Tiger Rallye Pro but the one thing that would always be a disappointment would be that display. It's a missed opportunity. (Software update PLEASE Triumph!) Great bike.
Great review; clear, direct and honest. Plus your video clips were excellent. Not self indulgent. I especially like the off road stuff you did in the first four minutes, as well as the post 10 min mark. I'd be very unlikely to do what you did, so I'm thinking this might be just the right balance for my reasonably capable, 62 yr. old riding. If I can do that, the bike looks totally up to it as well. Subscribed with compliments.
Thank you so so so much for the kind words and encouragement. Really appreciate it. Get the bike and let me know how much you love it
@@steve_kamrad5216 Well, to follow up, I got it and I love it! Quality to match my previous F800GS, but better suspension and brakes, and a weight balance and agility that is remarkable. Also, clutch and gearbox are the best I've ever used. Thanks again for your review. You nailed it!

Nice review. Hit the real world stuff and showed me some off-road stuff I’d actually do. Even though we all know it’s not “made for it” like a rally.
Thanks for not spitting on it just because it’s the budget version. Looks fun 👍
Thanks for the thoughtful comment!
I'm still digging the Rally Pro and your review on it was a big part of the reason I got it. Awesome video for this bike as well. Love seeing the Tiger on single track. I have been impressed with the Rally Pro the few times I've had it in those situations. Thanks for doing the most honest and useful ADV bike review videos out there. Have you moved to Austin?
Thanks dude. Nah just visited. Still in nj
Thanks a lot for such a detailed review. I was thinking on a 790 or 890 Adv-R but I am not a hardcore adv guy. Hence was looking for a 70-30 focused touring bike. The Tracer looks too road focussed, the 850 Sport fits the bill perfectly. Thanks again
Great review, thanks, I reached out awhile back for your input on Gt or Rally 900 as I was really on the fence. Well I went for the Ralley and really loving it. Miss the old Harley a bit... a little less every time I throw a leg over the tiger. She super nimble, quick and comfortable on the road. Getting some practice in on local dirt roads when I can. Enjoy your videos and real unbiased honest opinions.
Thank you for dropping a line! Cheers and congratulations on the RP

That engine sounds awesome, oh yeah and also Jesus that section in between those trees is crazy.
Slow and steady
Another difference is the 850 has a much longer oil service interval than the 900, 10K miles Vs 6K miles. Only really relevant if you are doing big annual mileage really. (I mistakenly mentioned on your 900 vid that I thought the service interval was 10K miles on the 900, I'm wrong). The colour schemes on the 850 are far nicer than the plain 900GT > Pro models.
Good catch there
This is not true. I am looking at the manuals and 850 and all 900's are the same.
It's written 6k miles / 10k km's.
@ yes, it was initially posted at the longer interval then changed back down to 6k miles. It’s the small capacity sump.
I follow the channel because it’s fun and honest. Very best of this video was the young kids at the end. 👍🏼 😎 🇺🇸 🌎
Thanks Bradley, glad you made it to the end
I was pumped to see this video drop into my feed!
One of the questions I rarely see addressed is if a rider with a road background wants to grow into adventure riding and this is the only bike they’ll ever buy again, what bike would you recommend? From these T7 and 850 Sports all that way up to the big ol 1250 GS’s. I’m curious how someone like you who has ridden so many of these bikes would feel.
As always, awesome content, thanks for the video!
Thank you so much for the comment. So road to ADV... ktm 1090r is a powerful weapon.
I think I like the Moto Guzzi V85 TT..a bit more character. However, Steve makes a great case for a future comparison video (hint hint 🤔). Thanks Steve for this great review!
Steve, yet another good video. One thing, your focus on the camera. Check and see if you can set it to face tracking, or single point tracking since it keeps getting your face and background in focus/out of focus.
It was set too sensitive and too predictive so it hunted too much. Will be fixed.
I wish I could give this more than 1 thumbs up. Huge double thumbs up :)

My idea is as a next bike will take me to work in central London and also leave the door open to touring and a bit of trail riding if the chance arises. This bike ticks all the boxes with a lower weight and lower seat that my nc750X. I'd seen other reviewers saying the bike was fine as a trail bike but this review thoroughly documents it can go beyond anything I'll ever attempt. The search I over for me 👍
Steve. Thanks for the review. Just notice a lot of your vids don’t have ads. You making any money off this? You’re vids are really good. I dunno, I’d wanna make some money.
Epic! If Triumph did this bike with the wheels and suspension from the rally pro and a TC off button that would be perfect.
Then it's just the rally pro though with short stroke suspension. But also you could buy a 850 and then a set of wheels. I went through all this with my 800 roadie though and your best bet is buy the 900RP.
@@steve_kamrad5216 Basically a very entry level Rally version was what I was getting at. I'd be after the long travel suspension but not all the tech stuff. I currently have a 2017 Africa Twin.... I like the simplicity of dedicated physical buttons for deactivating TC and ABS. I think with the Rally Pro you have to stop the bike and turn off the engine to change modes... maybe a minor issue but could get annoying. Love the first few seconds of this vid where you get it super sideways.... watched that a few times 🤘😎

Great video! Just what I wanted to see. Do you think it's worth going for the Rally for 80% tarmac use? (Only light off-road use at weekends). I like the soft, comfortable suspension and the ergonomics of an off-road bike, but other than that, the 850 seems to do everything I ask of it. I have a DR650 for serious off-roading and that's why three years ago I bought the F700GS instead of the 800GS. I am very disappointed with the 700GS, I don't like the suspension (it feels like a toy), the wind protection and the power delivery. I'm looking forward to change it but I don't want to make the same mistake with the Triumph, that's why I hesitate between this 850 (the gt doesn't offer anything I need) and the rally (not the pro). Thanks in advance.
The rally feels completely different from the 850 but nether feel cheap like a BMW f700 does. I would get a rally pro or a 850. Don't not go all the way

@@steve_kamrad5216 I mean to ask power slides ?
Great review mate, been waiting to see a comprehensive one. My only major concern is that 85hp isn’t enough, is it noticeably slower than the 900?
Not until very high in rev range
Nice one, thanks. Most of my riding is at legal speeds anyway so unlikely to make much difference.
85hp isn't enough for what? lol ... I commute on cb500x in Austin where traffic either flows at 75mph or is at stand still. Works for both. Also, rode it from Oregon to Texas. Tiger cost twice as much on the road and has almost twice as much power.
Consider that I’ve owned (and loved) two G310GS as second bikes I’m well aware that lower power bikes are absolutely fine, the 33bhp of the 310 was ample for local use and motorway in the UK.
I’d argue 85hp isn’t enough if you’re carrying a pillion though, which I sometimes do, and although I’m hardly a speed freak, it’s nice to own a motorcycle that’s got lots of power and torque.
@@timothydubber549 I haven't been in UK so, I'm not sure what the road conditions are. I was born in SE part of Europe and I know for sure that 85hp would be crazy amount of power for any motobike over there. Even for car. I have friend asking me about 1200gs, and I tell him he doesn't need it. Too much weight, too much power, too much everything. I know my Super Tenere would be more of frustration over there than pleasure. I rode 500x from Oregon to Texas with 300lbs load. 2000 miles in 6 days. The biggest issue I had was relentless wind all the way (tall screen was horrible idea) that limited my cruising speed to 75mph. Extra weight was making my front wheel pop up little when I was tired. Now, Super Tenere would have been better and safer ride but, I couldn't haul it on the hitch carrier of my truck. Pros and cons :-)
Nice review man!! Hey bro the bike is good for short riders? Like 5.2 5.5 feet??
Yeah about as good as it gets. Get a low seat and you should be good
Hey SK, not sure if you'll see this due to it being a month after the vid went live but wanted to thank you for the review and ask whether or not you think this would be a good choice for someone living in the Rocky Mountains?
I'm debating between this or the T7. I'm definitely an 80/20 road biased guy but I did grow up on dirt bikes and considering the off-road terrain around here is the way it is, I'm just questioning if the smaller front and cast rims are going to hold up.
Of course 3rd option might be to just hold off and wait till I can afford the Rally or Rally Pro.
Cheers!
Hey man. I always see these. Get a t7 if you want to go offroad a bunch and save some money. If you're gonna be pushing the limits later on off road get a RP due to the fact you can't upgrade the 850 the way you want to. If you're ripping street and just cruising gravel. Get the 850! For the motor
Thank YOU, all these fucking super star office riders...I am looking at this bike at age 64..
This is the one
Hey Steve continue you’re good review, just purchase the 850sport. I’m questioning my self if. Have questioning my self gone the right way with the alloy wheels for light off roading and fire roads and maybe a little pack dirt and mud… did not have the money for the rally pro and the rally wasn’t available in Canada .
No worries just use a tire with a heavy sidewall. Michelin anakee adv or wilds
@@steve_kamrad5216 it comes standard with the Michelin anakee ! Would you upgrade the springs front and back with hyper pro kit?
You’re very dedicated to answering everyone I respect that !
@@philippetavares3555 absolutely love the hyper stuff! Have used it before
Awesome review thank you! My next bike!!! 😅
Thats a good review..were the rims durable offroad or did they have slight bends by the end
They're fine with 35 psi
Great review 👌 one question how is the gearing on the motorway like is the engine working hard at say 80mph?
Not at all. Just warming up. 90 is fine. 100 is fine. Hit 127 two up and maybe 137 on the gt pro in Morocco by myself
Excellent review thanks
My pleasure
By the way the engines are identical to the "900s" the lost 10bhp is simply ECU programming - partial closure of the throttle valves at higher RPM. All you have to do is edit the ETV map values to 100% where they're restricted and bingo you have the same power as the 900s.
Well the 900s are reportedly down on HP too. I have the technical data but the gearing is shorter and the throttle does not have the bark the 900s do. So it may be more than a map. Like cams.
@@steve_kamrad5216 I'm talking between the 850 and the 900 - it's just programming. (T-Plane crank engines)
It's a great bike no doubt in that, if you plan to stick to the paved roads and highways with soft gravel here and there. If want to go some unknown landmark of where I am not aware of the terrain and landscape and more especially on a rainy and muddy day, I would go with BMW F 850 GS standard model... Much better and with the 21 inch front spoked wheels will inspire to go rumble over those rough patches much better.
Yeah absolutely, you should make a video of that.
