In my opinion your points as you made them were very well said!
In my perspective, it's a shame that I can't talk about these topics often to anyone and I have to be alone. Because I feel that I'd understand this world better if I talked about these topics with at least someone who knows about this community for a very long time.
The only thing I feel now is as if I belonged to this community, but I acted alone... or maybe it is a good thing?
I haven't told my family that I'm scalie because I get stressed when I say anything and sometimes I'm afraid of some reactions. It's not about family, but that's what I have in general.
Recently, thanks to the help of my psychologist, I have been trying to use communication in which I don't comment on my opinions, but express what I see, feel and need. Day by day I feel that my conversational style is slowly improving. I try not to say out loud what I'm thinking about and focus only on more important details.
I never tell my family... yet but my dad knows about furries but wasn't a fan as I am.
Well… did my coming out to my family … and now I live far away from them x) but I live with a lovely wife who isn’t a furry, but supports me everyday 🧡
Now I am a furry at work, even wearing a tail there, I am proud for being a furry 🧡

I am soon about to turn 47 years old, and I am not sure if my parents know that I am a furry or not!
I did come out to them as a therian, in 1992, when I was 15 years old, but that is a completely different matter, and I am sure my parents thought it was just a phase or a teenage thing. If it is a phase, it is a very long-lasting phase, since I am equally much a therian now, as I was in 1992.
I didn't find the furry community until December 1995, and despite getting many IRL furry friends already in 1996, I didn't choose to define myself as furry until around 1999, and at that point I thought there was no need to tell my parents about me being a furry.
So, I didn't tell anyone in my family that I'm a furry (but I think my brother suspects it 👀) and I don't feel any desire to tell them. They will probably know about that when I'll have a fursuit someday and they will unexpectedly see me in it 😅

Short answer: no. Having to "come out" implies that it's something wrong, or something you are ashamed of. That's not the case and it's no-ones business anyways.
i will never tell my parents im a furry lmao, it would be such a waste of energy having them yell at me with all the things they misunderstand about it, and id have to yell back at them to explain.

This is helpful for new coming furries I told my parents and they tell every visitor that comes to the house and my sister n brother laugh about it sometimes

I never came out to my mom as a furry cause she saw what I was watching behind my back one night I was watching the furry CZcamsr myutts/formerly bolt mutt, she said what are you watching? when I got defensive and snatched my old iPad away when she tried to see what it was which made her more suspicious, I told her up front and at first she thought it was evil stuff but with some more explaining she understood and said that’s fine, that was over 5 years ago cut to now and because I make my own Dinomask TikTok’s now my parents,brother in law,sister,my 9 year old niece,my 2 older brothers and one of there fiancée’s they all know I’m a furry but they get a good laugh out of seeing they stuff that I make and it brings them joy which makes me smile, and none of them judge me for what I do which I find amazing and very relieving! Heh so my close family knows I’m a furry yes from seeing my TikTok’s.

Only person who would know is my spouse. No one else lol, absolutely not my parents.
I tested the waters before with a few friends because there was a furry meet up near by and a saw a group of them walking past us. I mentioned it seems like it would be warm because it was in the middle of winter.
Immediately get hit with “those freaks are messing with children and screw animals”
I told them that was wildly inaccurate and mentioned the fandom is similar to people who like anime. That it’s just a hobby.
Once again, got an extremely toxic response basically saying furries don’t contribute anything to society and try to push their beliefs on to others.
That’s a wild statement because I’m a mechanical engineer and know of another mechanical engineer who’s also a furry. Like their ignorance on the subject was painful, lol they have no idea how many engineers/IT people are into it.
I now don’t talk about anything related to the subject around that “friend/school group”
It was really upsetting because I thought they were way more open to ideas
I told my parents that I was a furry 3 or 5 years ago and my dad called them animal perverts 😭. They know I’m making a fursuit now and they’re more supportive now than they were but it’s still weird and awkward and they see it as a lifestyle even though I’ve told them numerous times that it isn’t.

I have some friends who are in the fandom and who told their families but I still don't know if I wanna tell mine I have 2 private life's 1 where I'm a serious side and the other side with the fandom
I remember when I “Came out” to my sister, She immediately accused me of being in A “Sex Cult” Even though it’s not Sexual for me at all. 😑
But don’t worry, that was quite A few years ago and she’s cool about it now. My parents are also supportive too.

Yeah, like... no one really cares or needs to know. Nor does it need to be a formal announcement in the event that you do want to be open about it. If you want to put furry art on your wall, then put furry art on your wall.

Why would you want it? There are plenty of conventions in other countries too. And you can make fursuit too.
