Show Notes:
I feel like the writing for this video is a real return to form for me. I decided to go back to my roots so to speak; trying my best to hit that sweet spot between thoughtful analysis, irreverent humor, while also allowing the video to go off on a crazy tangent near the end.
I had a very difficult time writing videos in general, but the Windblade video was a true challenge for me. For weeks, I was bouncing around a lot of ideas in my head and struggling to figure out the best way to present them. Ultimately, I went with a more theatrical approach, which garnered a very strong response from the community to say the least.
So it was nice to take a step back when writing this video, and do something that felt much simpler and natural to me. This video came together very easily compared to others, and I was glad to be able to divert more of my creative energy to the visual side of this one.
I was very inspired by certain artistic renditions of Lucifer while I was filming this video. I feel like there’s a strong correlation between Lucifer’s fall from grace from Paradise Lost, and modern depictions of Megatron, where he’s often written as a well intentioned person who surrenders himself to violent means. It was fun to film and I feel like it adds just a little thematic through line for the visuals in video.
I've also been receiving comments complimenting me on my video editing over the last few videos. I hadn't strictly been trying to improve upon that, but maybe I've just happened to become a more sophisticated editor through the numerous video's I've made. I experiment with some fun editing ideas with this one though, and I hope you guys appreciate them!
Thanks again for checking this out! The channel has been growing steadily, but I'd really like to hit a new milestone this year. So to make sure we get there, I'll keep trying to make quality content as long as you guys keep watching me!

This Megatron and The Fallen in particular really strike me as "hey what fan-modes can we make out of this" instead of having actual, legitimate altmodes that were designed to transform
I think the fallen might be worse because I’m not sure they even actually designed anything for him, each toy turns into a different vehicle lol

6:29 Actually there's another. Back in 2019 Yolopark displayed a lineup of characters they were going to make model kits for, and one of them was a silhouette of Megaton from Bumblebee

Great video as always I would like to add. I think part of the reason that they’re diving into concept art is they’re pretty much done with A and B lister characters from bayverse. AOE and TLK are movies that had merchandise that didn’t sell all that well back in the day I’m sure that there are some executives are probably worried about getting into those characters and not having anything else to offset them. Not to mention people still look fondly. Upon the first three movies people don’t really look fondly upon the other two.
I would imagine they would release those characters one at a time, just like how mohawk was released by himself. The movies might not be very popular, but I think people hold those designs in pretty high regard.
@@Gei4Mei I probably, it’s like like there are half-assing the AoE and TLK character when they done them, I think management just wants other series to serve as a buffer in case.

One thing I kinda dislike is his face. Megatron is meant to be an arrogant tyranical leader with the smug face of a narcissist. This just looks too scary. It's like a horror scene. As you said, he looks like a standard issue automation. He's taken the bayverse decepticon problem, the dude looks way too generic and simple.
If I really had to pick one thing to change, I would made his face more distinctive, yeah

I’d like to get more, I like using them, it makes it more interesting that shooting into a black void all of the time
I noticed that folding the chest down a bit in the tank mode makes it look much better similar to a cow catcher

Devcon, Decepticon protoforms with the blackout heads, Infernocus/Infernocons, Driller, Transformers the videogame helicopter Shockwave and decepticon drones, Breakaway... Still so many figures they could come up with for the studio series

Megs is kinda okay in bot mode, but I feel like they should have worked more on at least one solid alt mode for Megs instead of two not so great ones

Probably the definitive live action Megatron design in my book. This is such a perfect design and I'm glad this design is getting the recognition it deserves.

I just got mine today. The robot mode fucking rocks. He's got amazing articulation so many complex little details and panels to flip around for transformation and then... he turns into a couple of weird yoga pose things. The alt modes just do not convince. It's like a 10/10 bot with 4/10 alt modes. Love him, worth getting him. Probably never gonna turn him back into vehicle mode.
Yeah, like I said that bot mode is pretty much all of the appeal
Feels like they gave up with a convincing tank mode after conceiving the turret, then added a third mode to seem more ambitious for the leader class.
The robot mode really is great though. Production and brand direction seems like a mess at Hasbro rn. Having ROTB mainline and SS was an indicator of this.

I feel like if they had just given him one good vehicle mode, this figure would be contender for best figure of the year
This dude looks awesome! It still amazes me how good the Studio Series Bumblebee toys are. I wish their design aesthetic and philosophy is what the movies and Studio Series stuck with. I know figures like this guy and Arcee and the like didn't transform in the movie so the designers get some freedom there, but they're still the most fun I've had with Studio Series outside of the '86 stuff. Which is is honestly kinda mid most of the time.
I have my problems with them but they’re generally really cool designs
My only grip with this robot mode is the way the lower torso peace looks. just feels like one big lump of crotch that goes straight into chest.
And yeah its no coincidence that they keep sidelining the two bayverse centered lines like prime for example. Although it could also be a Dino situation where the car companies wont let them sell the toy's

With the fact that Megatron didn’t appear in the Bumblebee movie and Rise Of The Beasts, and this concept of him being made into a toy, it makes me hyped to see what he’s actually gonna look like in the future films. Paramount and Hasbro are basically hyping him up this time around, avoiding the mistakes made in the Bayverse, where they introduce Megatron in the first film and have him be a lackey in the films that came after. So, when Megatron’s reintroduced, he’s gonna be a major threat.
Hasbro literally has a gold mine of characters they can choose from for Studio Series (mainly Bayverse), yet they refuse to acknowledge it’s existence; that being all the characters from the bayverse movie toylines not from the movie, of what I like to call: non-movie movie characters.
Im talking about characters like Payload, Bludgeon, Evac(from Blackout), Cliffjumper, Smokescreen, Lockdown, Wreckage, Tracks,etc; sure this Megatron looks awesome, but imagine just how varied the line would look with all these characters.
Several of these are even re-decos of characters already done in Studio Series, some not even having different head molds like Cliffjumper from Bumblebee and Smokescreen from Jazz.
True I honestly just want evasion mode Optimus and tf4 optimus at this point but the bumblebee movie figures genuinely piss me off
If they remade some of those old movie figures I would cry 😭

Honestly, I'm one of the few who prefers the jet mode, the weird warbird-ness of it, over the tank, and just in general. Mine does solidly hold together, though I did still need to slightly sand the arm tabs and thicken some others with superglue to make the jet truly solid. But honestly, I honestly kinda prefer this over the 2007 movie jet mode. I dunno, it's like a mix of that and Prime's alien jet modes, with a bit of the Don Figueroa stealth bomber design. Honestly, I like this more than the concept design.
The tank...is fine for me. What kills it for me is the point of the turret's pivot. Why that far back!? Might as well just be fixed forward. It already doesn't help my inability to enjoy it as a wheeled toy tank the way Legacy Blitzwing and even the Siege Megatron mold (who has been kicked out of my collection by this amazing guy) make me happy as a properly rolling tank toy. I just treat it as an immobile cannon a la his future Unicronian self.
Robot...what can I say for it that hasn't already been praised by everyone else? Also, glad to see that the common consensus is to give him TLK Leader Megs' sword.
Yeah, I don't think I'll need any other big bad Megatron EXCEPT maybe Animated. But yeah, Megatron in general, he's all I ever need. 86 Megs is going to have to be uber-amazeballs AT BARE MINIMUM to make me want him when I already have this guy, just as my customized SS38 does the same for 86 OP.
I can see the vision in the jet mode, a lot of my problems with it are the transformation steps. It was very annoying and confusing for me the first time around. Yeah, he definitely looks great with TLK Megatron’s sword. He really coulda used a sword as an accessory
@@Gei4Mei I think it's coz my standards for it amount to "has a space cruiser mode" and "looks decent enough". It's certainly a lot better than what SG Megatron attempted to do with its alt mode. It's why I can't personally say it's bad. Coz I know worse.
But yeah, the multi swiveling of the thighs can get confusing, and the shins will always take some work, but do it enough times, it becomes the easier of the two to transform. Or that's just maybe coz I don't care for the tank enough to transfom it into the tank often enough.
I've always wondered if Mei's Nendoroid self was a custom character or someone from an actual anime...

I try to appreciate the good points about most figures
I do wish they limited themselves to just one alternate mode but thankfully for me the main sell of this figure is the robot mode so i am willing to overlook how jank the other 2 modes look.
Other than the Turbo Changer figure i remember a piece of concept art showing only the bust of this design roaming around for a while, to the point where i was surprised to see it used for the packaging on some ROTB figures later on.
Is that true? I don’t remember seeing that concept art at all before it showed up on the packaging 🤔 that would be a really big deal
@@Gei4Mei I do remember seeing it but it was a lower quality version of the pic used later on ROTB packages and to market the SS figure. That said tho since i can't find it in my folders and now the only thing that pops up on google is stuff related to the SS figure, my statement might as well be "trust me bro my father works at Hasbro". Thought i could find it again but i proved myself super wrong sigh.

Robot mode is definitely one og the best G1-esque Megatrons we've seen in a while. It's a bummer they couldn't make his alt. modes more similar to the concept art, since those were some beautiful throwbacks to the canceled TFA Marauder Megatron (yepp, still salty about that one). Still, at least you can fan mode a fairly decent gun out of him, especially with the right add-ons (I'm particular towards the 3D printed scope designed by Hightail Creations).
That said, I'm still looking forward to the eventual SS'86 Megs. Rumor has it it will be a tankformer, but it'd be cool it he'd come with himself in gun mode as an accessory. Hopefully the leader price point means he won't be yet another Siege Megs retool.
I will be very upset if he’s another tank! Just make him a “space ship” like Shockwave!

They do have some Bay Studio Series characters to make other than the wigger twins, mostly from The Last Knight. I for one would defs pop for a SS TLK Optimus or Megatron. Plus theres TLK Hound who people have wanted.
I wonder if for those characters they would just re-release the existing molds for the TLK characters. That line really felt like a prototype version of studio series.
@@Gei4Mei Maybe, but there were gimmicks and its 2024 so we can't have spring loaded whosits and battlemasks anymore. I'm guessing though the reason why we haven't seen those is it hasnt quite been long enough maybe. After all it isn't like a Megatron or Optimus *wouldn't* sell. The other ones are a bit of a gamble.
Making him a triplechanget was a mistake. They should gave him 1 good altmode, but now he has 2 meh-mode.
At this point, Hasbro is gonna make a gamer edition line for the Transformers Devastation game and they’re just gonna be repaints of old figures but with a different name attached to them…..and I would probably still buy it.
The sad thing is, I definitely would buy it too 🤣

Good vid, personally really excited for all these new studio series sub-lines because lets be honest, besides skids "george bush doesnt care about black people" mudflap aint the only things missing frkm bayverse but the designs getting convoluted for retail figs. So before they succumb to that stress of doing all that, they can have "fun" with gamer and concept, it be hilarious if there were instances of the two combined like concept art from Foc.(still good vid, keep up the good vid edging streak)

Hasbro is weird sometimes. If they're desperate for new figures in the SS line, why not redo the ROTF figures (specifically Mirage and the villains) to be more accurate or redo older figures to have modern articulation? Hasbro is no strange to selling us updated toys of the same character throughout generations but why not SS?
It must be more difficult when you’re dealing with licensed vehicles. If the whole uproar over legacy sideburn is anything to go off of, maintaining vehicle mode accuracy is really important.

@@Gei4Mei upscale of the rotb studio series optimus updated with animation accurate colors, and a better noah diaz figure optimus has all the weapons and accesories, and there are some diecast metal parts. Its usually going around for 21-19 dollars.

I feel very mixed on SS lately, mainly because the focus on BB and RotB designs really doesn't do anything for me. I love G1 *and* I love the Bayverse (and WfC/FoC too but we all know how SSGE is going), but the BB/RotB designs just feel like "G1 but with greebles", which just comes off as boring and lame to me, outside of original characters like Shatter and Dropkick (who desperately need new figures btw).
And it sucks because, I feel there's so much to be done with Bayverse that hasn't been given credit. On top of basically the entire '07 cast needing complete modern redo's (god, early SS sucked), but with the advent of SS including Video Game and Concept Art designs now, there's an absolute treasure trove of great Bayverse designs to take from that appeared in the IDW Movie comics, the tie-in games, actual film concept art that we know EXISTS, and the original toyline. My heart yearns for a new '07 Arcee or RotF Breakaway, or a Dreadwing, or the awesome Cybertronian Optimus Prime/Starscream+Thundercracker/Bumblebee+Cliffjumper/Jazz+Smokescreen/etc. comic designs... oh, and also designs from the films that still haven't been done, like Dispensor. Fckin please joe hasbro
